What I am getting from Gold's return, is that her 'personal best' is all about skating for pride, and learning to love the sport again. It's so nice to see her again.
As someone who left a field that was high pressure because of personal issues similar (but not the same) to Gracie's as well as uncertainty as to why I was doing it (i.e. am I doing this because I love it or because of other reasons) and then slowly returning to it at a more shall we say 'recreational' level, it is really important part of the process of returning to figure out if you do actually love it. When success comes quickly (as it did for Gracie) and then things don't work out as planned and all these other variables have entered the equation that have nothing to do with 'doing the thing' itself but are part of the baggage of being 'successful' or on the road to success, it becomes really confusing as to why you're doing what you're doing. After you leave (in my case and I assume for Gracie, too) and you realize that there are other options out there and you don't HAVE to do what you're doing, figuring out if you love it becomes really important, because you no longer feel that this is something you HAVE to do.
I don't know if that makes any sense, but as someone who really likes Gracie, I have no issue with where she's at and also am totally okay if she realizes she doesn't love skating and wants to get on with her life. But similarly she might find that she loves skating but doesn't need to be number one. I'm impressed that she's come this far and was pleased with her skate. Love that lutz!
