U.S. Ladies [#24]: Starr-Ting Order/Detailed Classification

For skaters like Hicks and Wang time is running out they've had plenty of chances and haven't got it done when it counts. Even Mariah isn't that young considering she's just a few months from turning 23. They need to get it done now before the younger girls pass them by which may be sooner they they think.

My wish would be for Mariah to get the title, but I feel like she does better when the pressure is off (though she did pull off some nice short programs this season!). The instances that come to mind are Skate America 2016 (when she came from behind in the short to get a silver), nationals 2017 (when she came from behind in the short to get the bronze), and nationals 2018 (when she couldn't pull up to a medal, but did a nice long aside from the double axel fall, though the odds of making the olympic team were kind of down at that point). She is the one who I could see the judges rewarding the most on the PCs side if she was clean, but my odds have her more at the 2-3 placing due to her consistency, though she's improved this season.

Hicks and Wang are responsible for a lot of face palming

Forget about the younger skaters, their peers in their age group have been passing them by for a while.

Wang’s not even here, is she?

No, she withdrew.:(

I have a few predictions but I'm usually wrong about these things...

1. Liu
2. Tennell
3. Bell
4. Cui
5. Hicks
6. Glenn

Or possibly...

1. Tennell
2. Liu
3. Cui
4. Bell
5. Glenn
6. Hicks

But in my dreams I see:

1. Bell - I enjoy her skating more than anyone else's
2. Cui - Her jumps are gorgeous and there's a ton of raw talent there
3. Liu - Let's prep this little star for the future!
4. Tennell - I like her just fine but I prefer a number of other skaters over her
5. Glenn - Pretty impressive when she stays upright

Odds are Tennell and Liu will be in the top 3 as both are pretty consistent overall. If Liu hits all 3 triple axels I'm wondering if the others will have enough TES to get around that advantage. Her PCS will be lower but 3 axels would be enough to erase that deficit. Tennell has the content and the clout with the judges but she is the defending champ and that is never easy. There hasn't been a back-to-back champ since Wagner (2012, 2013) but Tennell can do it if she delivers. I don't see her finishing lower than 2nd...then again Zagitova placed a shocking 5th at her nationals so you never know.

Bell has a great chance to place top 3 (including 1st place) if she can turn it on and skate cleanly. She's definitely the class of the field this year in terms of performance and artistry. She has "bring the house down" type of programs and if she can deliver them cleanly the judges will definitely reward her. Cui has amazing jumps and though she's a bit rough I believe she will be stunning in another year or so. She's got the goods but has issues putting it together. She could crack the top 3 or finish outside of the top 5.

Glenn and Hicks have always been potential spoilers but neither skate well at this event. An "on" night for either could place them top 5.

I'm excited to find out what happens!

Amber Glenn Aiming For Top Four in Detroit

https://www.ifsmagazine.com/amber-glenn-aiming-for-top-four-in-detroit/

Five years have passed since Amber Glenn captured the U.S. junior ladies title in Boston. When she stood atop the podium back in 2014, she did so with the then highest ladies score in the history of the competition.

This week, Glenn, 19, believes she is ready to contend for a medal at the 2019 U.S. Championships in Detroit.

“Back when I won my title, I didn’t really know what was going on. I looked up to the seniors like they were so far away when in reality my scores were pretty close to what theirs were,” Glenn said. “I always thought of myself as this girl trying to prove myself, but this year I feel like I am established as a senior lady. I can just go out there and not worry about proving myself to other people, but just show them who I am now.”

I'd like to see Bell or Liu win or go 1-2. Provided they both hit. I especially adore Bell's LP and I want her to see her nail it.

I hope Mariah Bell wins the title as well!!! I think there's a chance she will because the pressure is on Bradie Tennell. It's not really on her at Nationals!

I have my favorites, but i am not guessing... we'll start learning the placements in less than 3 hours as of now..

That kind of reminds me of gymnastics gyms with all kinds of interesting names. Many of those names are from the owner's surnames but they don't usually have the word "Method" after it. That seems like it's trying to hard. I can't wait for something like the Marina Zueva Experience to make their debut. :p
I'm hoping for the Marina Zueva Rhythm Method. ;)

Despite the fall on the 2A, Courtney's jumps look so much more in control here. I think working with Kori was the right choice.

Based on my inquiry, Alysa Liu won't be able to compete as a Junior internationally until 2020 because of her August 5th birthdate. Would someone corroborate that for me? Thanks.

ANL got some things to say lol.

Liu cant even do juniors???? what shame.... wowww.. I wonder if The Trusova has heard of The Liu.

What a competition. USA ladies are open for business.

I have one beef. Mariah Bell I predicted that score to come to about 66. USFSA does no favors in awarding that nearly 71 points.. because no international panel would do that. I get USFSA wants to send her to Worlds.. I get that they want to make that happen (and SO DO I!!!!) But it does her and no one else favors to assign a score of 71..... (and that was a full on downgrade... not an under.)

Amber Glenn was a DREAM!!!! I thought that should definitely FOR sure be in 3rd but I know its gonna come under Bell.

Bell had my favorite SP for the year until I saw Bradie kick it up another notch. Bradie keeps improving in her artistry....and quickly!! She has found her style now if you ask me. I think now Bradie has my favorite SP with Glenn making a move.

I woulda had this.

1. Bradie 76
2. Liu 74-75
3. Glenn 71
4. Hannah Harrel 68 (and I dont even really know who this chick is)
5. Bell 66-67

Oh and Megan Wessenberg... THAT SPEED! Just wow.. I really appreciate her skating!!!!

Liu... wow.. cant we send her to at least Juniors????

I thought USA ladies was gonna be a bit dreary and it absolutely wasnt!!!!!

I know nationals is inflated and such so I can accept Alyssa's 73 and Bradie's 76 but Mariah's 70 is a bit hard to swallow considering she didn't even have a successful 3-3 and the one she attempted wasn't only not close but also very messy. Amber Glenn was robbed :slinkaway

Bradie scored 5 points higher and Bell scored about 2.5 points higher for similar skates at Golden Spin (an international competition) and I bet everyone also got higher scores than they would have internationally. People saying Bell scored too high but she got less inflation than Bradie did.

Thank you!!! I JUST MENTIONED THAT above your post.

USFSA does no favors in doing that.... Only because it wouldn't happen AT all in the real world...... AND I LOVE MARIAH BELL!

@NAOTMAA yes, Glenn was an absolute dream! Stunning!!!!!
