Yeah! - Hannah Miller skates last in the penultimate group, so she’ll most likely make the NBCSN telecast of Sr Ladies SPs (9-11pm Eastern, Thurs)!!! On the other hand.. Alysa Liu skates in the first group, so she won’t be in the timeframe of the live telecast, unless they show her on tape, in between the skaters seen live.

p.s.- Shout-out to Tech Specialist Terry “Backflip” Kubicka...1976 US champ & Olympian!

They probably will since there should be an ice resurfacing between the 2nd and 3rd groups.
 
I do have a question that needs answering.

Who or what determines whether a girl skates junior or senior?

Oh, Lordie - Do we all need a good laugh right about now?! Earlier, on another thread, I said that I couldn’t wait to hear this announcement over the loudspeaker: “And now, ladies and gentlemen, representing the Mitchell Johansson Method, please welcome onto the ice xxxx xxxxx!”
 
In all honesty I find the name really egotistical and detracting from the skaters. Yes, it's great to have your great coaching acknowledged and to grow your brand, but skating's a small enough community where you don't have to have your name announced every time your skater skates domestically or in a way that your name overshadows that of the coaching team you almost certainly have helping out.

@missing The coach and skater does does, generally. There are things like age that will force some girls to turn Senior, but for the top Junior girls that go to Senior early domestically there's a strategy to it. Some coaches think it will help them get better assignments if they show they can compete with the Seniors. Some coaches thing it's better to have them in a more intense level of competition. Maybe there's some funding differences at the club, sectional, or national level. I'm not quite sure.

Some people think the "tallest poppy gets its head cut first", in reality the "tallest poppy gets the most sun and pollination"... :p

Within the US, what determines domestic competition level is which tests you have passed.

For high-level competitors, the tests are easy to pass. So the skaters and coaches can be strategic about when to move up in terms of getting the right kind of experience and likelihood of the best opportunities (qualifying for Nationals, assignments to internationals).

Once you pass the senior test, you can't go back and compete in juniors within the US. But assignments to junior internationals based on domestic senior results are very possible for skaters who meet the ISU junior age limits. (There are no age limits at these levels within the US.)

There is no funding from US Figure Skating regions or sections directly. What might be available through local clubs, or possibly consortiums of clubs within a geographic area, will vary widely depending on the club or other funding group. Competition level may or may not be a factor.

For skaters who do qualify for Nationals and/or get assigned to international competitions, which funding envelope they're eligible for is based on results at those events. Team A funding is only available to seniors with top results. Teams B and C are available to both juniors and seniors; a skater who thinks they might be able to earn at least one of those qualifying results in the upcoming season might consider the likelihood of doing so when deciding whether to move up.

In Russia you don't represent a club, you represent your city. Same with Canada (and pretty much everywhere other than the US). So angels of plushenko is just the name of the rink and it would never be announced (no risk of overshadowing anyone).

No in Canada you represent your club. For example in Toronto there is Toronto Cricket curling and skating, granite club, Canadian Ice Academy, Richmond Training, YRSA, to name a few. Windsor has South Windsor, Riverside, Lakeshore, toname a few

Not true.

All Russian events (except last Nationals) not only make announcement "Invited to the ice, skater name, club name", but list the club name in kiss and cry area, before scores are announced.

Here is random pick, Russian Cup Rostelecome, Segment 2. check announcement of each skater and kiss and cry listing. it is always: invited to the ice "skater's name", representing "club xxxx", city.

Well, at Nationals, you represent your province... and you see the province’s flag beside the name of the skater on TV screen...

Actually you represent your Section. For example skaters from the province of British Columbia or the Yukon represent the BC/YK Section. That said the commentators usually say which province and city you are from and or live in as well as which club you represent. At least Ted does. I can’t remember if Rod and Tracey do.

You are right, I had forgotten the territories ehich are part of the Western sections. (I thought I was fine considering
Ontario has merger its four former sections).
The host announcing only mentions the section. It’s up to the TV commentator to add more details. Of course the skaters hail from a skating club which is announced during other local / sectional competitions.

I still find it amusing the idea of announcing the Mitchell Johansson method skating club... 😹
 
In order to form a skating club you need to have a certain amount of members join as a charter member. You can name a club anything you want assuming you fulfill the USFS rules regarding the forming of a club. Typically they are named after the rink or town/city/region. But I've seen plenty of interesting names for skating clubs.

In terms of Mark and Peter, I believe they decamped Skating Club of Boston for an opportunity to run a rink. It's a good concept in the sense that they provide everything under one roof, which, while not unheard of, is fairly uncommon in the U.S. That said, I don't find it to be a particularly good choice of name for a club. Just my opinion.
 
That kind of reminds me of gymnastics gyms with all kinds of interesting names. Many of those names are from the owner's surnames but they don't usually have the word "Method" after it. That seems like it's trying to hard. I can't wait for something like the Marina Zueva Experience to make their debut. :p

I mean, it's one thing to name a training program, method, curriculum, etc. after the person that developed it, but it's a WHOLE thing thing to name a freakin' club after yourselves. Remember, every time one of the skaters from this club competes in the U.S., it's announced what club they represent.
 
It is (or was) pretty common in gymnastics, the Karolyi's had 'Karoyli's', Kelli Hill (Dominique Dawes, Elise Ray and Courtney Kupets' coach) has 'Hill's' (used to be Hill's Angels), Kevin and Rita Brown had 'Brown's' all of which were announced as such when their gymnasts competed at Nationals. I guess because of that I haven't really thought too much about Mitchell's eponymous club name, though the 'Method' part just reminds me of Bar Method fitness clubs.
