Thank you, @SamuraiK, and also for the correction about China, which didn't have a third competitor.

I look forward to seeing how this plays out for 2022, especially if they keep the Pairs field up to 20 in the FS: all teams (19) made the FS in 2019, where 16/28 Pairs made the cut in 2018. The SP cut-off in 2018 was 63.26, and #17's SP score was 61.48. That would have been 12th in 2019, where there was no pressure to make the FS cut skated under the +5/-% GOE system and with a marginal .1 higher in max base for L4 of the prescribed spin, death spiral, and lift types in 2019.

If there had been 20 in the FS in 2017, then the US and Germany would have earned two each from Helsinki, with Hase/Seegert (19) and Denney/Frazier (20) in the FS (along with Japan and Austria), and France, Germany, and China would have been eligible to earn a second or third at Nebelhorn, unless 16-20 skated blinders in the FS and knocked the Knierims to 11th or below or James/Cipres and the Knierims to 11th and 13th or below.

In ladies ITA, KAZ, KOR would have needed to send skaters to Nebelhorn for the 2nd spot and CAN for their 3rd. I think only KOR out of those would had no problem getting it so the field at 2018 would have looked very different too (No Austman or Russo either :( )

Do the new rules preclude anyone who was responsible for qualifying a spot on their own from competing at the qualifier? If not, Canada could have sent Osmond or Daleman to Nebelhorn, Italy could have sent Koster, and Kazakhstan could have sent Tursynbaeva, which would have defeated the purpose of creating the rule in the first place. Countries can continue to send skaters and teams who don't have citizenship to Worlds and Nebelhorn, because, technically, they could receive it and get a passport by the January deadline.

I wonder why they chose to focus this way, rather than say, for example, that the minimums for the second and third spots are the Worlds minimums that need to be obtained at an ISU event instead of simply all senior B's.

They can't send a skater/team who made the FS at the qualifying Worlds. So Canada couldn't have sent Kaetlyn or Gabby, but could have sent Alaine who probably would have managed it.

Oh, noes. LaTuk has officially announced she will not compete at the 2020 Olympics in Japan. :drama: Foiled by fate to miss another Olympics. Bless her.
I'm sure she could qualify in the target shooting events if they made the targets photos of the people who selected Russia's 2019 Worlds team.

If she's back in St. P, that means Rukavitsin!

Besides, what's Buianova done since Adelina anyway other than smack Kovtun around.

Well, Danielian won silver at JW last year and finished 4th this year.

ETA: and Kovtun won nationals after a long absence.

A timely reminder for da bossman and anyone else who has been out of town, hasn't been paying attention, or might want to ask for a friend:

3) The @Jeschke is the one to decide over membership
[Pressman's note: had to spend hours sleuthing thro to thugh the Archives in order to humor da bossman and include this superseded Rule. The :COP: may be edited yet again, if necessary and appropriate. :sekret:]
4) The pinky166 is not allowed to make more than one proposal a day
5) Proposals can be submitted in the #teamtrainwreck thread
6) New membership is granted only to current skaters
7) New membership is only granted to senior skaters (at least one international senior competition)
8) Membership can be cancelled due to points 1) and 2), numerous decent skates in a row or not being competitive on elite level anymore.

FAQ:

If I post in this thread, does that mean I'm on #TTW?

No, the skaters are the ones on the Team, not us. But you may aspire to joining the Fans' Auxiliary.

Can I submit a nomination during the offseason? And if I do, will it be considered?
You can always submit a nomination, but right now, da bossman is being :drama: and says he will Tsareva any nominations until the start of the Junior Grand Prix. And even if he were to consider it, he would probably shoot your suggestion down. It will help, however, to back up the nomination by citing to the Criteria, Rules, and Qualities.

Who decides whether a skater's membership should be cancelled on grounds other than medaling or retirement?
Normally, da bossman, possibly with the advice of vice. But there's always a first time for everything. :sneaky:

Why is Alena Leonova on the List? She has a World Silver Medal.
There's a Perkova Rule, which is so obvious it doesn't need to be included in the Rules above, namely, a skater is on the Team if she (1) has only one World or Olympic Silver or Bronze Medal and no international gold medals, (2) has never won her home country's National Championship, and (3) is Perkova.

What about Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and Elena Radionova?
Da bossman has his delusions, and we humor him.

Do you have to be voidy to be on the Team?
No, but it helps. You do, however, have to be heartbreaking.

Is there an anti-American bias here?
Not at all. Several Americans are or have been on the team, e.g., Ross Miner, Richard Dornbush, Gracie Gold, and Mirai Nagasu.

What is the Pantheon?
The Pantheon is something we cooked up here in the #TTW Press Office to promote those skaters who have retired. Each member of the Pantheon must embody in his or her own way the essence of Team Trainwreck as determined by the pressman. :judge:

How do I get on the Fans' Auxiliary?
Not by asking or campaigning for it.

Why isn't being French and hot one of the Qualities?
It's implicit in being French and hot that a skater has the listed Qualities in spades.

Sally Skater and Peter Partner fell on their side-by-side triple flips at last weekend's competition. Surely that makes them worthy of the Team.
In and of itself, falling once or even several times in one program does not warrant membership. Please reread the Criteria.

Why aren't skaters allowed on the Team before they skate Seniors at the international level?
We want to give them time to mature without putting too much pressure on them.

Is there a King and Queen, or is everybody equal?
No, but we do have da bossman and vice.

Can someone clarify what this thread is for/about?
No.

Why is this thread in The Trash Can, whereas From Russia with Love is in Great Skate Debate?
That's a good question.
