U.S. Ladies [#27]: A Time to Reboot

As far as I know there wont be any, unless there are fan cams out there.

When the website crashed it meant no complete video of her.

@aftershocks did find a video (is it called dailymotion or something?) that shows her first 15 seconds.

 Yep, I shared that first 15 seconds coming at the tail-end of Dailymotion streaming coverage, after finding it. I was hoping by some magic it would include Mariah's full short program... A website crash, is a crash, is a crash, apparently. :p

Good that eventually we will get to see Mariah's full short program this season. :cheer2:

A great start to Mariah's season.

And the Salchow is back too, which is promising.

They'll need to add the second 2A back in somewhere (the extra four points or so is absolutely needed to compete with the very best -- especially with more and more trying triple Axel and quads).

Perhaps she can take a page out of Tuk's book and do a 3Lz+2A sequence if she's not going to do a "true" combo and of course, add that three-jump. Hate to sound like it's strictly numbers but that's the game everyone is playing nowadays.

Good luck to her this season.

I think a 2a on the back end of either the lutz or flip would work and adding another double jump to the 3 jump combo would benefit her greatly

Weekly Round-Up:
  • Mariah Bell wins her first individual gold as a senior after two stupendous programs at Nebelhorn Trophy.
  • Sarah Jung (10) and Gabriella Izzo (8) both managed top ten outings at the Junior Grand Prix in Croatia.
Schedule:
  • This upcoming week, Kate Wang and Isabelle Inthisonewill represent the USA at the Junior Grand Prix in Italy (Oct. 2-5), marking the end of this season's Junior Grand Prix.
    • Stream on the YouTube channel.
  • On October 5th, Bradie Tennell and Mirai Nagasu will compete at Japan Open. This will mark Tennell's return from injury and debut of the season.
  • Regionals begin this week for many skaters, including Gracie Gold.
    • Look out on social media for Gold's participation, or lack thereof, at the IceWorks regional competition.
  • Next week, Starr Andrews, Ting Cui, and Megan Wessenbergwill compete at Finlandia Trophy (Oct. 11-13).
    • Stream will be available either on Dailymotion or YouTube.

I highly doubt both skaters, esp Izzo, are happy with their lp. This is nowhere near Izzo's better summer scores. Sarah had a clean short though.

If anyone is interested, there is a video of Alysa Liu's coach, Laura Lipetsky, performing at 1995 US Nationals.

And a video of Laura Lipetsky's coach, Wendy Burge, skating at 1972 US Junior Nationals.

Laura had a huge salchow!

(Reposting from a previous thread) There was an article published before Alysa Liu won the 2018 Junior title that mentioned "Lipetsky, as the daughter of Russian immigrants who had to scrape by to pay for a career that included coaching from the renowned Frank Carroll and 1976 Olympian Wendy Burge Dickinson..."

Right. Dumb me. 2axel - 3sal and 3lutz2toe2loop can't both exist in the same program. This is what happens when I am too lazy to type "euler".

But yay for Mariah. What a strong season debut and the sal is back! The 3/3 in the free looks strong, but too bad about the !s on the lutzes. She will hopefully figure it out with Raf.

Same tech. panel called Bell's solo 3Lz in the second half of her SP as clean and she received+2/3s from the judges. She had 3F+3T< and LSp3 (points lost) but received level 4 on her step seq. and the 2 other spins in the SP that we haven't seen in its entirety yet.

ETA:

I think this is a fan cam of Mariah's FS "(alt. angle)": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_t-Y2Zd3PQ
(Still haven't come across a fan cam of her SP.)

Mariah's new exhibition program ("Always Remember Us This Way" by Lady Gaga) from the Nebelhorn live stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPHoOwYnMsk

The second lutz in her lp also looked clean to me; I would not have given it a "!".

If Mariah can earn 215+, she’ll be in Grand Prix medal position. I think the upper limit for her is anything above 220. Realistically, I think a Short score of 72+ and Long of 142+ is very doable if she can be squeaky clean with positive GOEs across the board. We’ll see how much she’s improved by November.

I really enjoyed Mariah's exhibition program, and she looked quite lovely and more grounded and confident in her fp. We have to wait and see the full sp. It looks like perhaps the fun sp working with Adam has been motivational for Mariah, and challenging in a positive way. It's out of her usual comfort zone, but also perhaps a release in a way which has helped settle her nerves. Plus, what she had to deal with and overcome at Worlds surely gave her newfound mental strength and determination. In her exhibition, there are some very strong moments which highlight how much Mariah has grown and matured into a woman who owns her talent, her femininity, and her power. :)

I don’t known. Now that the 3A have gone senior, plus Evgenia, Rika, Alina, and Elizaveta the field is really deep. She’s at TDF with Kaori who tends to improve quickly as the season moves on. Satako’s also improves a lot as the season goes on. It may take some luck to get on a podium this year. However, I do think she has a really good shot a bronze.

Perhaps it's a nervous thing. As I said, hopefully her team will figure it out. All in all, great debut! And I love the free program for her.

Love her arm positions on jump landings. Less is more.

I guess that depends on Alena Kostornaya, if you assume that Kaori and Alina will likely beat Mariah at IdF. We'll see how she scores at Finlandia.

Speaking of Nicole Bobek can I just....

Everything about this was Perfect!! Amazing! I could watch Nicole SPs for days!!!!
Oh - those were the days!!!!

When skaters were magicians who drew you right into their hearts, and your eye was not plagued by the box in the upper left.

Gorgeous.
