With the Novice event over, I must say, the amount of talented ladies sprinting up is quite reassuring. Not only that, a lot of them have great qualities such as spins and skating skills aside from the jumps. Also, how crazy is it that if you want to be in the Top 3 as a novice girl, you need ALL your triples AND a 3Lz combo to boot. Just a few years ago girls were winning that event with a 2A and MAYBE a 3Lo. Now we have crazy 3-3s.

Isabeau will be eligible for the Junior Grand Prix next season and she will be 13. She’s been competing against Lindsay, who competed in Poland this week since Juvenile. Also, I think her next jump is either a quad or 3A.
 
A bit worried about Ting. The mistakes she made were lack of concentration after such a great start. It almost seems like when it's going good she freaks out a bit and starts making mistakes. Her mental game needs to improve for her to get to the next level. She really should have made the podium with this field. She already has a 130+ score under her belt internationally skating as a senior from last season when she was still competing on the JGP so the judges will give her big scores when she's clean or close to it. She could be a contender for the US title and not losing the Bronze medal like that to Amber.

Amber is a VERY GOOD skater who has yet to live up to her potential so it is nice to see her win medal in competition. Maybe it will give her some confidence for the GP and she'll finally have that breakthrough (although I thought last years nationals SP was going to be that).

Part of me however does agree with Jammers though that Ting should not be losing to her because it does feel like Ting is suppose to be on a higher level then Amber and aiming for much bigger things :shuffle:

Ting needs more mileage on her FS in competition (she kept her last season's SP).

And a big :cheer: for Amber... hope this medal gives her confidence as she trains for Skate America!

I see 11 points difference... 20 points????

I see them being very competitive with each other by December. (even now)

Had AL completed that 3 loop in the sp yesterday.. there would only be a 6 point difference between them.

I'm not sweating Alysa. Just beginning competitive career. A couple 2nd/3rd place finishes OK. More important Alysa keep developing and improving. Stay injury free. Set herself up for big wins a couple of years from now.

I think we're being a little too harsh on Ting. Imagine having just gotten off of a major injury that kept her off the ice for about three months and being catapulted into her first major assignment of the season? For a nervous competitor such as Ting, that's even more of an insurmountable task than it already is. Also, Ting literally started jumping a month ago and she's already capable of landing a beautiful 3Lz+3T. This was her VERY FIRST competition of the season where she attempted combos AND 7 triples. If anything, this just shows how strong Ting has grown mentally and physically. I'm not trying to make excuses for her botched second half of the Long, but with all things considered, this is a good stepping stone towards her Grand Prix debut. Best of luck to our little artist on ice.

Many congratulations extended to Amber Glenn who fought through her Long and ended her long lasting curse of falling apart in the Long. If she can improve on this score and manage to wow at Skate America, I think we're in for an Amber fighting for the World spots alongside Bradie, Mariah, Karen, and Ting. Also, had she not popped the 3Lz, she would've scored 190+. Best of luck to her as well.

This upcoming week, Gabriella Izzo and Sarah Jung will represent the US in Croatia. Izzo will try to improve on her performance from Latvia whilst Jung, who is debuting, will likely attempt the 3A or a 3A+Eu+3S in her Free. At the senior level, Mariah Bell will begin her season at Nebelhorn. Another week of great skates for sure. Best of luck to our ladies.

Seriously! She's not fully trained and competed at altitude. Granted, she trains at altitude so that should be less of an issue for her, but what she delivered was exquisite. Sure, she fell apart at the end, but up until the double she looked fantastic. I love this program for her (Tutberidze's camp should watch the early footwork and take note of how to incorporate a high kick into choreo so that it is a highlight rather than a "Look, ma, I'm flexible!" move), and her skating has an effortlessness and lightness that recalls Mao Asada. Not saying she's Mao just yet, but she just floats across the ice.

Glenn is better packaged this season - the shorter skirt length is more flattering and she finally stopped pulling her tights over her heels. She is a powerful skater with great technique who offers a nice contrast to the crowd of wispy little girls who seem to be dominating.
 
I thought Ting looked very promising. She got the first half. Then the jumps stop & there is a big lull in the middle of the program in which she has time to think (and also breathe). Programs designed this way often have two outcomes: 1. the skater that has had an awful start regroups and nails the jumps in the second half, 2. the skater that had an awesome start thinks too hard & starts to muck up. So, in Ting's case, happily she nailed the jump right after the break. Big smile. I've got this, it says. At which point she took her focus off the next element, and out of the program she went. Still, she's coming back from injury, it's her first full season in seniors, and she always needs some time with her material to gain that confidence and focus throughout. (Though the key, really, is to get it back after making a mistake. Mistakes happen to everybody. But you have to move past them & refocus on the next element). Keep at it, Ting. We're with you!
 
I will be interested to see where Mariah is going to fit in among all these ladies after Nebelhorn next week. Too bad Bradie had to delay the premier of her programs.

ETA - It looks like Amber had a PB yesterday! So touching to see her crying in the K&C! I hope this is the beginning of something special.
 
I think people are hard on Ting because she's got huge potential and could be great. Also it may be early in the season but the performance she gave at this competition is pretty much the same she does at almost every competition. It's not a one off, it's the same repeatedly. So it's hard to excuse and say "well it's only a Challenger at the beginning of the season." People think if you can't do it at a less pressure Challenger how can you do it at the biggest events?
