I haven't seen the skates but does anyone else think Z/E blew a chance at the GPF to

Honestly, I think T/M can still have a mistake over Z/E. Yes, they have been mediocre but their performance here probably did more then enough to regain the confidence of the federation.

IF Z/E had taken advantage of the GPF and beaten T/M there, when they had the perfect chance, things could have been different. The SP left a crack in the door but instead of opening the door and declaring themselves as serious contenders they decided to shut it again. It could have been a real game changer but instead it ended leaving the order of things unchanged and nationals solidified it again.

Overall I'm certain the Russian fed. still think of them as a very solid #2 and backup to T/M and that's it. I think the scores given showed that as well. T/M will have to keep messing up while Z/E have to skate clean consistently for anything to change between them. They won't shake things up unless one team is a real disaster or the other really shows something in the making. They had a great season and have shown improvements but they still have yet to breakthrough against the big teams.

Frankly, if I were the Russian fed. I'd start looking at the teams that finished 3-4, B/K and K/P (perhaps 5th M/G too). Those are the teams that will hopefully break the rut. I'd like to be surprised but I don't have faith in the Mozer team.

Definitely agree. T/M’s FS is exquisite and their elements and skating skillls are better than Z/E’s IMO. Z/E are good too but I think they can still do more. I would love to see them do a program to “Arrival of the Birds” by Coldplay; they could probably rock that elegant but avant-agree style.

Although tbh, I just want Stolbova back.

Bossman ?? Nationals Ladies FS recap (in order of final ranking):

Shcherbakova -:eek::eek: Seriously, had anyone predicted her in 1st?:respec: I liker her more than Trusova, but I hate there is no calm in her program, everything is rushed and pushed into another position out of the jumps. She has good basics and I like her, but I hope to see you still in 5yrs with a different body. Congrats!
Trusova - Took the surprise (Shcherbakova) defeat quite well. As much as I disliked it for others, the PCS for the 3 juniors up there are fine for me (compared to each other!!!) Good tricks, but that's it for me ??‍♂️
Kostornaia - Stunning
Konstantinova - I am done. Seriously. No words  This was very cautious and considered but lived up to it in the end. It was not as great as last season, but who am I to complain with this result? Who would have thought she comes as best eligible outta this? This FS is great for her, she earned her spot. A medal would have been nice, but that's sport ??‍♂️ Euros medal is ****ing damn in reach if she not ****s up big time ??? Get your shit together girl! I still think, she is the one to drop for worlds :( But I won't think of that today :encore:This silent moment of joy and satisfaction was everything
Zagitova - She will always have my support as she goes on as olympic champ, but boy she was gifted. Especially yesterday. Not sure I like her making the team like that.
Samodurova - I am heartbroken for her; She was not perfect today and she is not up there yet in PCS (she just came alive the last minute), but she was robbed of that spot with Zag PCS yesterday and TES today. Seriously. :( Now it's her or Tuk? :drama: How bittersweet for Mishin :( Nontheless, I would have never seen her in such a position after last season. Go on fighting! ??
Medvedeva - Good comeback. Kudos to her fighting spirit ?? But let's face it, this had no soul at all until the last 20seconds ??‍♂️ PCS are a joke; if she is sent anywhere I will go :soapbox: so damn hard.
Tarusina - :blah:
Gubanova - Stunning skating. The mid-part is a bit boring, but the rest was just brilliant!
Guliakova - :blah:
Vasilieva - :blah:
Leonova - @alchemy void might kill me for this: but maybe it's time to call it a career Perkova. You had 2 great outings here, that would be a proper and satisfying farewell after a good season! A pleasure it was.
Tarakanova - What a way to start the event ?? Without GP this might have been her last nationals already. Somehow I have a soft spot for her.
Tsurskaya - What a :gallopin1 ride :( Another farewell performance? :(
Talalaikina - @alchemy void admit, you fangirled that so damn hard! We need her to do a 'TGS' exhibition with (shirtless) Samarin! :saint:
Sotskova - What a sad goodbye from nationals :( This knc was hard to watch. Awesome job by Tagaeva there  (She might be the only age eligible either way) but I hope Sot gets Universiade to bid farewell in front of home soil after a short but succesful career :( (((@Hanna )))
Nugumanova - Unfortunately this was very cautious and without spark. We have seen this way more fierce at the RC events :( KnC was really sad to watch. No clue if some funding was lost or if it's been just disappointment, but this was very very sad. What a long way back since GPF! Go on fighting Nugu ??
Panenkova - I love her emotions, joy and despair. Will we ever see her again? Who knows? I doubt, but hope!

I can’t believe it, I agree with every word you said here!

Boy, there is a lot of bitching going on the pbp about Stasia :(

Ugh. My twitter timeline has been full of the Stasia hate. Even some of my friends really don’t like her just because they’re Med/Zag fans and I feel awful. It’s almost as bad as the Sotnikova bashing.

Heartbroken for Mai.
Missing the team with such a stunning skate :(
No words.

TBH she should’ve beaten Miyahara here. Satoko is a lovely skater but I can’t handle it when the judges ignore her tiny jumps and give her huge TES while Mai skates her heart out and gets robbed. (Not her fault of course).

Minion of the year
(and looks like Eteri finally got her flowers)

In my humble opinion Sokolovskaya's minion far and away should be leading MIMOS. One of these days I'll remember his name.

I'm kind of over Danny, TBH. His choreography this season is shit and his style is a little too pretentious for me. This other dude's style is similar to how I like to dress: jacket, tee, distressed denim. It looks good on him. :grope:

I'll always vote for Tamura, until he wins this!

Thank you for reminding me! YES to Tamura. He looked so effing fine at GPF. :smokin: So you and I will have to campaign hard the next few months to make this happen. :skandal

Btw Samarin minion looks good. Here's Bossmans boytoy with someone who doesn't! Run Albena!!!

:scream: WTH? Is he on the Dmitriev Sr plan, too?

After that we all need some bonus: Santa

:grope:

FREED, always!

KFrank is being a little naughty in the comments, too. I thinka long distance relationship probably works well for them. I'd like to see a Grantoline + Freed double date one of these days.... #Ihavenolife

I don't know how to quote from the old thread, but I'm commenting on this comment about Dmitri Aliev:

Bigbird said:
What is happening to Dmitry Aliyev? He has always been unstable but this year he's been really not at his best.

Tinami Amori's post:

There is an interview with additional info, where he makes a ref. to "death of a close person".

Impressions after skate
- My aftertaste? as if i ate raw meat.. It's a disaster. (i) failed at the National Championship. Considering the training (i) went through, it should not have happened, i should not have skated like this (so poorly). It's a difficult season, and one must learn to handle.... Sorry, it's too hard for me to speak. So many thoughts crawl in to my mind. One must learn to cope under any circumstances, be it a death of the dear one, or in happiness.

Reasons for failure
- One should not get distracted by anything, one must remain himself. I look at myself from both sides, when reviewing my performances. I see that it is not "me" who is skating. (not my true self). This is sport. Maybe i am tired. I have not had a vacation for 7 years. Or six, to be exact. Since i moved to Sankt Petersburg, i have not had a beach vacation (have not gone to the sea). But i am not hanging my hands (giving up). I never plan to give up. I am going to move forward.

My comment:
I think there are various problems involved. Dmitri appears exhausted, more mentally than physically. In several interviews he talked about not having had a real vacation in years. I think he would have needed and deserved a vacation after the stressful Olympic season that he entered as a junior in his first senior year and that saw him taking a silver medal at Europeans and going to the Olympic Games and Worlds. That was a lot for him. He is a thoughtful person, he writes poems, he takes things to his heart and I think he would have needed some time to let everything sink in and think through it. Instead, he was chased from one training camp to the next in spring and summer.
The death he refers to could be his dog that he lost recently. That was what I was immediately thinking when he talked about it in that mixed zone interview, but I didn't want to ask in front of everyone else there. He said before that his dogs are his best friends.
The other problem I see is that his jumps have deteriorated this season, they became "small". As a friend pointed out, he has grown bigger (not fat, but just he is becoming a man now) and his jumps never were that high like for example Mikhail Kolyada's. Dmitri relied on his fast rotation to get the jumps done, but this is not working so well anymore, because he is bigger and heavier.
While I'm unhappy about Dmitri missing the team I think it could give him a well needed break. However, he said that he doesn't want to take a break and if there are any other competitions for him this season, he wants to do them. At least I hope he gets a real vacation then once his season is definitely over.

(((Our boy))) :(:(:(

So will the Russian fed support them or not? They didn't this season, so I'm not incredibly hopeful for next season.

This would so have been a better season to support Shpilevaya & Smirnov. Now Russia has Shevchenko & Eremenko, Evdokimova & Bazin, and Popova & Mozgov all in the danger zone on the SB list. Some may move onto the WS list and Skoptcova & Aleshin are probably in the clear for one GP invitation, but any of those four teams could need help for a second invite if not two. (Usually around the top 18 get two invites, and odds are good that all the bubble teams drop at least a couple spots on the SB list if Chock & Bates and Fournier-Beaudry & Sorensen qualify for the post season). With a combination of the Russian teams' qualifications and host country support, Russia can likely get or offer invites for a number of it's mid-ranked teams; but even the powerhouse countries can only do so much. I'd guess Shpilevaya & Smirnov and two or three other Russian teams--not sure which ones because three of the bubble teams still have internationals this season--will be fighting this battle on the Challenger Series again if they stay together. However, if S&S do stay together into next season, I'd take it as a good sign. These are the kind of obstacles dance teams have to be able to weather in the long run.

Not much time to post, still busy: but as I can`t find, and as I know #ttw is most reliable source:
Is JPN worlds team already announced?
I can't find!
I do not even comment in Daisuke coming in 2nd, but if they dare to leave Tomono off the team for headcase Tanaka (sorry @SmallFairy ) I will be :angryfire:angryfire:angryfire
