DWTS Season 24

What a strange night! Len sure had on his nasty pants. His remarks to Bonner were nasty and uncalled for. And now everyone is piling on with Simone. I think she looked surprised. Dave sure has his fan base; and after the "family values" package, he could win this thing. I don't think he should but... I'd still like to see Rashad and Normani in the final two with Simone third. And yes, Nancy should have been ib the mix.

I agree that Len was out of line with Bonner. That had to be hard for Sharna and Bonner to listen to.
I think the judges coronation is for Normani but all my votes are going to Rashad.

I'm not so sure about that coronation. The judges have really been on her lately about her lack of emotional expression/connection with Sasha.

Ridiculous that they would focus the subject!

... It is just like figure skating or gymnastics

-------------------

ETA: That was some BS from the judges . . . Where are the protocols? What's the TES Base or D score? GOEs or E score should have been through the roof.

... Like all those darn judges haven't pasted on a smile and gone out to do their job.

They really hurt Simone by saying her personality is not enough. There is nothing to be done about it.

I hadn't been watching this season, aside from searching out YouTube clips, caved and put it back on my PVR last week, and now I'm kind of regretting it. But you guys are making me glad I fast forward through the judges' comments. They are by far the worst part of the show.

Some random thoughts:
-- Sasha's first pick for Simone was a major dud and not just because she didn't like the song. No way that was ever going to get big marks from the judges no matter how well she performed it, especially compared with a big emotional performance from Normani. I'm sure it was coincidence but I liked that her second number was to the same piece of music that her best friend Maggie Nichols used for her floor routine this year.
-- Good riddance to Bonner. He seemed like a spoiled brat in the first piece (it's only ok to milk his accident when he wants to) and I agree with @Debbie S that the second number was really outdated. The feminist in me was cringing.
-- Dave seems like a likeable enough guy and a hard worker and I'm glad he made it over Bonner, but he seems like one of the weakest dancers to have made it this far (bearing in mind that I haven't seen all seasons and maybe my memory has banished other similarly bad dancers that have done so)
-- It's looking like a Normani win to me but I would rather see Simone or Rashad, partly because I would rather see Sasha or Emma get the win over Val (and as a gymnastics fan who has been watching Simone for years, I love her...although she already has plenty of wins under her belt so it's not like she needs this).

My F4 would have been Normani, Rashad, Simone, and Heather. Nancy 5th. I do think David Ross is likeable, but he'd be no better than 6th.
Who has more fans, Normani or Simone?

I've never been a secretary, I was offended. That was really dated. Sharna should have been able to come up with something better.

I think both Sharna and Lindsay focused their "star's" time on the first dance and decided to go for the fun factor in the trio. They probably knew either Bonner or David was going to be eliminated so figured they'd go for entertainment value over content.

I wonder if Simone is getting so much criticism from the judges because the producers don't want another gymnast to win. Personally, I'm rooting for Rashad. Has Emma ever won before?

I agree with Len that contemporary is not my favorite. For one thing, it's not ballroom & for another it's usually overwrought & angsty. But Normani's had me completely mesmerized start to finish. If it wasn't for not wanting Val to win again I would want her to get the mirrorball. But I thought Rashad's jive was the most fun & entertaining of the night & deserved better scores. So I can't decide if I want him or Normani to win.

No Emma has always gotten older men that are not contenders. Isn't this as far ascshe's gotten before? I would love to see a Rashad/Normani/Simone final three but given the show' audience demographics I'm not sure that 3 African Americans will make it. I'd guess David instead of Simone.

Emma made it to the final her first season as a pro with Bill Engvall. It has been a lot of work and little return for her since then.

(Not at you . . . at the producers, if they were ever to read FSU :p)

 I wonder if Simone is getting so much criticism from the judges because producers don't want another [one of the most naturally gifted athletes in terms of coordination, timing, balance, and core strength in the history of the world that they selected to be on the show] to win . . ."

I can't believe I am getting so worked up about this, but . . .

I FEEL LIKE I AM LISTENING TO COMMENTARY ABOUT MIDORI ITO CIRCA 1988.

. . . and that is why I am getting so mad

. . . and, to think, I wanted Nancy to win, who I do not even particularly like but was looking for positives.

I was so disappointed in last night's show. It seemed like the trios highlighted the pros and not the contestant, and were completely uninteresting. Was it my imagination that they were much better in the past?

I wonder that as well. I was excited about Laurie being a contestant last season, but ended up not being enthusiastic about her dances. When I heard that Simone was going to be on this season, I was not happy about it, about having another gymnast, and was sure they wouldn't let a gymnast win two seasons in a row. Simone has surprised me, however, and I'm enjoying her and Sasha very much. OTOH I think I'm pulling for Rashad. :)

Normani's comfort while "onstage" and ability to "perform" gives her a real advantage, IMO.

I think she is great, but what it is with her legs. They bother me and I can't figure out what it is. NOT being critical or insulting, just noticing. I forget to pay close attention till it's too late. Is she built that her legs are too far apart? (Hey, I spent my first 30 years wondering why I was the only person whose thighs didn't touch at the top > not anymore :-).....) Is she not bending her knees?

The thing that runs through my mind is if she was skating, she would be putting her foot down on the flat of the blade all the time, not using her edges. I know, skating................I can't explain it.

I love her. She's gorgeous and flexible and a really good dancer and performer. She's perfect from the hips up. What am I seeing her legs do that bugs me?

I think it's pretty shady that David's trio dance only scored 1 point better than Bonner's monstrosity. I'm a huge Cubs fan, so I'd like to see David somehow sneak into the finals. He might be able to get enough votes based on the strength of his first dance.

I like Normani a lot, and her first dance was great, but I just do not, not like contemporary dancing. To me it just seems like a bunch of angsty flailing or prettily prancing around, depending on what song is being used.

Simone might be the F4 victim with the judges comments. She seemed to not be in a good mood after the trio dance, I think she's really frustrated with doing everything she can and still being told it isn't good enough. :(

I'm sorry, but David has no business being in the final.

I would prefer David over Simone. Maybe she can't turn off her competitiveness but it doesn't really fit DWTS. She doesn't look like she's having fun, it's more like I.must.win.at.all.costs. That was not a pretty face she had. And maybe you don't win gold with smiles but you can win mirrorballs with charm which David has in spades.

I think Simone has been a delight. I would hate it for people to complain that my smile was fake (it might not be!) and then to criticize me for being too precise, and then for NOT smiling. Geez.

Nancy would have stayed on longer if she had talked up family values and being a Christian. It usually works like a charm  :D....tells a lot about the demographics of the show (I especially remember Bristol Palin and Candice...I know there have been others).

I've stopped watching since Nancy left. I'm glad I can get a quick update from this thread to find out who gets the boot. :kickass: So thanks for everyone's posts. I will tune in for the finale to watch Nancy!

ETA: for all CAI's and other judges carping on sweet Simone for her performance smile, two words: Maureen McCormick. She had the fakest fake smile while performing, and I don't recall any judge calling her out.

Because she wasn't that good, came off as nuts in her packages and the producers didn't care if she was eliminated. There were other things to criticize, the smile was the least of it. They're trying to help Simone make the finals.

The more I think about it, the more annoyed I am re their treatment of Simone and Bonner. I feel like they're trying to get Simone to show her vulnerable side (meaning "weak") and probably want her to cry. She's a strong young woman and I'm glad she stood up for herself.
As for Bonner, I like him even more now. They wanted to dance to express his pain and the injury....Again! He didn't want to, felt he'd done it and wanted to move on. Good on him!
That's positive.
These packages are ruining the show.
And why do they always do the "dumb blonde" thing with Whitney? I don't like them mocking her so much.

That's

Blech. :(

I would just skip the finale entirely, but I want to see Nancy and Simone again.

Who is voting for David? Is Lindsay that popular a pro to bring in extra votes?
