DWTS Season 24

Certainly was a night for the Kleenex, or for me paper towel as only thing available. Loved Nancy's dance, she is a beautiful dancer and has aged very well. Simone was better tonight as well. Once they get rid of the housewife I will find it tough as I like all of them

Nancy was lovely during the Fox Trot.

ETA: Simone did a good job, but it ended with an ugly cry.

I completely forgot to watch tonight and didn't even set up my DVR. I had an unusual day, with home repairs, then going to work late. I hope to catch Nancy and Simone's dances on yt.

I'm watching now. Agree with the upthread comments, but the standout for me is how dreadfully obvious Erika's extensions are. You'd think she could afford a better job. She can go next, please.

Who's the one who has been a backup dancer for someone? And she got such high scores? Well, duh. "Ballroom" might be different than what she is used to, but faster dances and knowing rhythm and learning steps and timing and everything are what she does already. I don't think it's fair that she is on there with these other people who don't know how to do these things.

Also, I always think it's kind of funny that most of these people's most memorable years were last year. Yeah, most people never heard of them till they did something to be famous enough last year to be on the show in the first place.

That's a little cynical. IIRC there was only a few who mentioned last year -Nick & maybe Erika (who aren't famous now IMO) & of course David Ross but he was already extremely well known. But he didn't have that much reason to pick last year - only winning the World Series, being picked as MVP, & then retiring. I'm loving watching him. He's a lot of fun & Lindsey is my favorite female pro.

I was sorry to see Mr T go but I learned a lot about him in the last weeks that I didn't know. But when he mentioned his age I was very surprised. He is only 65 so why did he move so slowly & carefully? He seemed very fragile the whole season. He said his cancer was cured 22 years ago so his age shouldn't be a reason. I hope he doesn't have health issues.

I was watching the X-Factor for the 1st time the year that Fifth Harmony was on. In the last reduction before the live shows all 5 of them were cut as single singers. Simon Cowell called them back & put them together as a group. Despite their name they took a couple of weeks to learn to harmonize with each other but when they did they became my favorite that year. I'm so glad for them for having this success. Normani is a beautiful dancer & it doesn't hurt that she's also beautiful & sweet. I hope she & Nancy don't cancel each other out. IMO they are the most beautiful on the dance floor but similar dancers.

Heather Morris is the one who was a backup for Beyoncé & also was on Glee. I agree she's a ringer & probably shouldn't win.

The only ones who are known because of reality shows aka no talent people are Erika & Nick. I hope they go next.

Rashad was already one of my favs but when he talked about growing up I wanted to hug him. He's the best dancer among the men stars. He was really good last night.

I think it's gotten to the point where DWTS has to 'provide' certain dancers with contenders in order for them to do the show. It was like that for a while with the Hough clique, Julianne, Derek and Mark Ballas. Then the Chemerkovskys took over the show, with Max, Val, Peta, and Sharna. I think Emma, Sasha and some others have a professional connection with Max. So basically, the Chmerkovskiy boys people they want to work with. I am not saying it's right, but that's the way the show has been. Derek was the main attraction, then Max, now Val. They get the best partners.

I think "ringer" still means bringing in someone who is already an expert in whatever the show is about, especially in the case of a contest like this.

And as a Nancy fan, I'd like every single person who ever called her cold, snotty, a beeyotch, or who made fun of her saying "why, why" after she was attacked to see that video of her story and her dance. And then tell me again what a nasty person she is...

It's funny how no one was complaining about Alphonso who was also a professional dancer. Heather has been doing well and she was a hip hop dancer

I love David Ross too. I've just noticed the same thing every year. They bring "a few" (NOT EVERYBODY OBVIOUSLY) people on who only did something in the last year to make them recognizable for people to vote for them. They don't always pick last year as their most memorable though either. Or the younger ones pick the very recent year that made them famous (not to me!). Simone didn't.

Another question, since I've never heard of some of these people. The girl from FIFTH Harmony? Shouldn't there have been FOUR other girls there to make five?

The judges shouldn't give Heather Morris such high scores, influencing people who vote. Although maybe that's better than carrying someone who shouldn't win all the way to the end and eliminating better dancers along the way. Maybe she'll go in three or four weeks, after the "not so greats" are gone.

Heather is a ringer, but so were Meryl, Alfonso, and Nicole (Pussycat Doll).

Heather's time as a backup dancer was doing choreography, yes, but also by herself (not partnered). Even when she would dance on glee, she didn't often do partner dances, and when she did (such as in the performance of Valerie) she was kind of awkward in those situations.

I thought I would like Heather more than I did, but I love that Maks said that it's time for Alan to finally be a pro. Also, I feel like the judges are nitpicking her more than the others.

Nobody is really sucking me in this year, at least not yet.

Alfonso was a child tap dancer. That's a far cry from being a pro ballroom dancer. I don't think you can count the goofy "dancing" (the Carlton) he did on Fresh Prince.

He appeared on Broadway as a dancer. I think that's as ringer as it gets. In fact, his entry on wikipedia lists him as:

Alfonso Lincoln Ribeiro Sr. (born September 21, 1971) is an American actor, television director, dancer, and show host.

I think this idea that, if you aren't doing ballroom dancing, it doesn't count is a bit naive. People who dance in musicals learn how to pick up choreography quickly and move to the rhythm of the music. Once you learn one style of dance, others are easier to pick up. Anyone who gets paid to dance is a ringer in my book.

I don't think Meryl fits in the same category as Heather, Alfonso, and Nicole. And if Meryl is a ringer, why isn't Charlie?
Charlie too. But from the first few weeks. Meryl was the standout, so it seems Charlie kind of just got pushed aside and forgotten in the kerfuffle (his Mary Poppins routine is one of my all time favourites, even with the prop disasters).
I actually think Meryl and Charlie were more ringers than Alfonso. Yes, he was a trained dancer (he also did a break dancing instruction video in his youth) because they were trained in ballroom and latin styles, even if they weren't done on the floor. Someone like Heather, Alfonso or Nicole had to learn them from the basics, possibly even learning the tempos and holds. Meryl and Charlie had the skills, even though they were used in a different arena (pardon the pun) than the show.

I set my DVR to record tonight's show. I happened to turn to the show and luckily the last two dancers were Nancy and Simone. Both were great. I was so impressed with Nancy! As a skater I found her wooden. She looks completely transformed. I wish she could skate now. Of course she will skate in shows.

Simone ver precise and yet expressive. Congrats to her for getting two 10's.

Will watch the rest of the show tomorrow.

The opening number was really great! Do the Pro Dancers do all the choreo for these numbers, because they have been really great. And does Donny Osmond ever age?! How old is he? He has still got a really good voice.

Glad Erika is gone. Didn't like her from the minute she opened her mouth. Yea, its a dancing show, but your attitude also plays into how well you will hit it off with the audience, and she lost me from Day 1.

Nancy has been really impressive. She could be the quiet spoiler to Simone and Rashad, who look to be possible Final 2.

They whole show made me teary tonight for some reason. There are some really good dancers.

No there's a choreographer named Mandy Moore who does them- not the singer.

I think there's a painting of a very old Donny in his basement. Totally agree that the guy doesn't seem to age!

Not so sure about Rashad - he's not very good at ballroom. My personal top 3 after tonight are Simone, Nancy and Normani.

Heather was let down by poor choreography - it looked like an empty program with such a talent. Glad the judges weren't buying. Max/Alan need to do a lot better.
