They are higher ranked than Shpilevaya & Smirnov and deservedly so.
And your point is??? When they start skating undoubtedly better or at the same level than the top teams yet still getting crap scores/results we could talk about some trainwrecky worthiness and even then some splats / WTF plus factor will be needed.

My point is that Shpilevaya & Smirnov are the only dance team on Team Trainwreck. So arguing that Popova & Mozgov are too much of a "middle of the road" level team is a &(&*^ argument.

Honestly, if you blank up every other dance program you will never ever get to the top because the judges don't ever give dance teams the marks until they start delivering a bunch of programs in a row. You can't treat dancers like singles. We all know perfectly well that Sinitsina & Katsalapov and Hubbell & Donohue have blanked up enough to be trainwreck worthy. But no one in charge of the team likes them enough to put them on it. So here we have a perfectly good application in dinosaur costumes from a team that is half Krylova-redux and half Junior World Champion. A team that somehow managed to throw away a perfectly good opportunity at a top 24 SB score with an extremely easy caller at Golden Spin, thereby putting themselves out of the running for a guaranteed spot and behind six senior Russian dance teams--at least three of which they should be able to defeat--and placing themselves at the mercy of a whole bunch of GP host countries that are not going to want to invite them. Not to mention that it made it super easy for the judges at Russian Nationals to stick them behind Evdokimova & Bazin who then snag a free trip to Europeans after Zagorski & Guerreiro implode in the FD. Popova has years of winning early season JGP events and then mucking up opportunities to medal at Junior Worlds behind her. And Mozgov overthrows the partner with whom he is undefeated at the junior international level after one paltry senior season in which he debuts in 6th place at SA and only competes half of a French GP so that he can skate with . . . a girl who is mutually insane.

:) I am just happy they found each other (as a dance team, I don't know what their personal relationship is like). It's a beautiful thing when one out there personality locates another.

You have to admit, that was a good argument. :COP:
It wasn't. Sorry @Dobre.

Slander!
H/D have a 4CC's title and 2 world medals.
S/K have a world medal too.
We have rules. And neither of those 2 teams is Perkaova Radionova Tuktamysheva Yan level classy enough to break them.

a team that is half Krylova-redux
What an insult for Krylova :drama:

Popova has years of winning early season JGP events and then mucking up opportunities to medal at Junior Worlds behind her. Old merits do not count for the new team. ๐Ÿ‘†๐Ÿผ

As entertaining they are.

Shpilevaya and Smirnov are a much more talented team and due to injury, politics, and head casing are lower ranked. Popova and Mozgov compete to potential on a consistent basis. Theyโ€™re trashy and fun but trainwrecks nope.

Since when admission to the team is based on who else is above or below in the ranks? It's never been a relative evaluation.
What you say about H&D and S&K is not entirely true, Boss already stated clearly they are not qualifiable. They fall into the "headcase with too much hardware" category. And there are enough people who love them here.
As for the rest of P&M facts you mention, I'll take your word and assume they are mostly true since you apparently know and care too much about them and me thinking of them not worhty somehow pushed your buttoms but is any of all that stuff (most of it from previous partnerships) really heartbreaking stuff that makes us bite our nails when they take the ice aka as the main requisite for the train or like you just said, the usual hard stuff a lesser dance team has to struggle during their careers, ? I'll go with the later. If you don't, that's fine

It's Galit Chait. I don't remember who said it or what exactly the description was, but basically her skating looked like she was "galloping".
I always thought it was hilarious that the #ttw emoji was Galit, because she's the polar opposite of a "heartbreaking" #ttw skater, i.e. (and I say this as someone who was/is a huge fan of Chait/Sakhnovsky personally!) someone who had more medal success than a lot of people thought her "workhorse" skating merited.

Well, the criteria is that the team/skater has the potential to be a world medalist. Eventually, some of them actually are.

The top 9 teams in ice dance have all already medaled at Europeans or 4CCs. (That is a large part of how they got to be the top 9 teams). All but the bottom two have more than one major international medal.

So, if you follow the rules, you are going to be in the "middle of the pack" with pretty much any dance team on Team Trainwreck.

Unless you are at the bottom of the pack:

Stavitskaya * cough *

This doesn't mean that the middle of the pack dance teams don't have the potential to one day be competitive for a major international medal. Shoot, Soucisse & Firus have a 4CC medal. So . . . scrolling . . . at the very least teams #9-#24 on the dance SB list meet that standard;). And while neither Popova & Mozgov nor Shpilevaya & Smirnov make that list, they have both defeated Evdokimova & Bazin and Skoptcova & Aleshin who are on it so same ballpark.

@Dobre you sound as if there is something inherently wrong about the difficulty of making Team Trainwreck in Ice Dance.

Criteria:
1) Skater needs a complete package to potentially be a top skater at Euros/4CC's/Worlds/Olympic level
2) Skater needs to have the ability to absolutely rock one day and splat the day after. Even better: rock and splat during one program
3) Skater is not afraid of breaking one's heart over and over again
4) Skater needs more splat/messy performances than great ones

:gallopin1

Making it onto #TTW without having the requisite frequency of splats would be

Per your own wording . . .

Messy performances are valid alternatives to splats, and Popova & Mozgov have plenty of messy performances, thank you ;). Their entire FD last year was a hot mess.

But do they ever rock one day and splat the next? Or better yet, rock and splat in the same program? :COP:

If yes, please post links. Otherwise, :violin:.

You are long enough on this thread to know that statements like that never work in your favour ;)

So, to end this discussion once and for all: Popova/Mozgov fail the main criteria, heartbreak and thus won't make it.

Not a real splat. :COP:
Exhibitions don't count. :COP:

And, besides, the Criteria require absolutely rocking one day and splatting the next, not the other way around! :EVILLE:

Fortunately, sanity prevails:

Are there actually any ice dance teams which meet all these criteria? There definitely was one.. but they ceased to exist before the #ttw :gallopin1

Hurtado and Khaliavin can meet it if the number of twizzle disasters increases and/or they miss worlds next year.
