This night of course belonged to Javi and even da bossman was almost a bit teary-eyed during his FS, but there was another great moment: Samarin crying on Sokolovskaya's shoulder, saying 'Spasibo'. Loved the humbleness in that ???

Your boy has Plushenko's ability to land jumps that he should have been eaten the ice. How he righted himself on the first quad is amazing. And, he might not skate pretty, but he was not going down. And, he's the silver medalist.

And the highlight was Rizzo and Grassil sitting on the couch. I felt the same way when my mother made me take my little sister with me if I wanted the car. I hope they keep pushing each other and we see the battle for Italy No 1 for a long time.

And, I will never nominate Kolyada again. No competitive drive whatsoever. Russia is just waiting for some youngsters to come along and we'll never see him again. I think he seriously needs to evaluate his options. You can't blame his injury because he'd already fallen twice before he hurt himself. No idea what Russia will do for Worlds.

After the medal ceremony Javi started climbing on the tribune to hug his parents and girlfriend (that was also very sweet), it took about 5 minutes or so, then he returned back to the exit and Matteo was still there, waiting for Javi to take an 'informal' picture with him

Am so happy for both her and Mishin! She has her flows, but that was a terrific performance

I would have put them in second after the RD, their basic are so much better than S/B, and they had a real tango!
Barbara in the K&C today was the highlight of the entire dance event

Daniel Weiss, German commentator, had no clue why SinKats were only in 5th place after the RD and was shocked that they didn´t win bronze. He said he didn´t understand the huge gab after the RD to the Italians and that the Russians should win the medal and not the Italians

He's not back to classic Kovtun. It's both Buianova and Uspensky's fault because they came up with the bright idea to have Max miss morning practice because they thought it would "help" him. That's why they couldn't say sh*t as the kid cried in the K&C. So he basically went in to the FS cold turkey. I swear, this team is it's own worse enemy at times.

They've been not purposly sabotaging their skaters all season with low levels (lvl 2s), combos not in bonus, skater attempting only 2 combinations, etc. I hope it improves next year.

Especially, since he's worked hard to get back in shape and succeed. He steadily improved this fall with the internal comps and the 2 challengers he did, culminating with the win at nationals. I'd like to see him train with Raf. He'd not tolerate any crap, but he'd not treat him like Buianova does. I know he's had a terrible work ethic and the problem with working with someone who's been through the bad times, they always expect you to go back to old habits. If he falls on the first jump he just loses it. I don't think sending Aliev to Worlds would be any better than Kovtun and Kolyada so I hope they put some faith in both of them.

Come on, he's not going to Raf. Who is going to pay for that? Med has sponsers, Kovtun doesn't. Plus he went the majority of this season without funding, only added like 2 weeks ago. The Russian fed isn't going to pay for Raf.

I know. He'd have to do like Rippon and sleep in Raf's basement. But, Buianova is toxic for him. I'd say Rukavicin, but he has more headcases than he can handle.

I always hear the same 3/4 names mentioned over and over and over Surely there are some who, while not that well known or have the most successful students, are more the capable enough of taking on some name skaters in need of a new coach like Maxim, aren't there?

Part of Kovtun's problem, which was self-inflicted, is he had a poor work ethic and basically screwed around rather than practice and focus. It comes back to bite him in the ass when he makes a mistake in a program. Now, they all know that and he had to practically beg Buianova to coach him and give him another try. Maybe Urmanov, but I don't know if he has any senior skaters now. But none of Buianova's skaters had much success this past season. Sigh. I have a soft spot for the headcases.
