Survivor season 37: David vs. Goliath

I do think she played a good mind trick on Christian to vote out Carl though.

I didn't see it as a mind-trick on Christian so much as an eye-opener when Carl wanted to exclude Gabby. If Carl excluded Gabby this vote, why would Christian trust Carl not to exclude him next vote?

I don't think Carl's desire to exclude Gabby was out of any guile or deviousness though, as he has been if anything too upfront as a player. My impression was that he knew she was close to Alison, a very emotional player, and would have another messy meltdown if she heard that Alison was the target. I didn't get the vibe that he was trying to push Gabby out of the residual David alliance or in any way upset the apple cart once the Davids had gained the upper hand.

Historically, if they show someone in trouble in the previews, they are safe from elimination the next week.

Historically yes, but we all had a little shock last week when Dan was shown in the preview as the target, and then thanks to the idol nullifier, he was actually sent packing. I know that was an unusual case with surprise on top of surprise, but I wouldn’t be so sure that it means anyone is safe this season ;)

And Angelina - just do not like her and hope she does not win.
The negotiation - seemed like she offered a lot of stuff right away - was there anything in camp left to offer after what seemed like a long list.
I used to be a negotiator for the Navy. I would never have offered that much as a starting position. A good negotiator starts with a minimal offer instead of offering nearly everything up front. It leaves little room if the first offer isn't accepted. After my first negotiation, my mentor told me, "Good job, but you don't have to send the contractor home in a barrel."

I've never liked Angelina or Allison and am liking Gabby less and less--too much whining from her. I hope Christian, Davie, and Nick are the final three.

I didn't get that either. Why offer to give up everything? What additional thing would Jeff had added, if they were negotiating? If she would have just said what can we give up to get more rice, he might have said the chairs and pots and she could have said just the chairs or something. She didn't have anywhere further to go. Her "negotiating" didn't make them all give up anything anyway.

Yeah, I totally didn't get that "negotiation" at all. "Hey Jeff ... if we give you EVERYTHING WE OWN will you give us more rice?". "No". So where do you go from there???

I thought the same about the negotiation, though she did hold just a couple of things back, and yet Jeff commented that she was really offering nothing at all. Perhaps that was his version of negotiating.

Meanwhile, Christian still has an idol, doesn’t Gabby know that? I don’t know if she could truly truly blindside him. Agree that Christian will be a one of the most popular players by the time this is over. I didn’t like him at first, but he has really grown on me.

That was so satisfying! I don't know if Christian was really planning on not using his idol until he looked Gabby and Nick in the eye, but I am impressed that his emotional intelligence is as high as his IQ. I still see him being voted out just before the final three, but I really enjoy watching him play in the meantime. Nick and Davie are still playing well too and can fairly explain their votes for Christian, if he finds out, since he left them out of the loop with the Carl vote. I don't think they've burnt any bridges, and they have still made some good moves with a little less flash than Christian at this point. On the other hand, the clearly weaker quartet of Kara, Alison, Angelina, and Mike have a great shot at the final four if they get on the same page for which of the stronger three they want to gun for. Are there any HIIs still in the game that need to be considered? I lost track.

It's almost surely not going to happen, but that weaker group of four needs to realize that even if they aren't seeing everything happening behind the scenes, none of them are likely to win against any of the other three. As annoying as Angelina is, she probably has some kind of elaborate plan to the final at this point and if she does end up versus Alison and even Mike ('he has the money already'), she has a shot to win the whole thing.

I can't see Christian making it much further, although I could see a collective effort next episode (regardless of what we saw in the previews) to agree to vote him out again, and then Nick playing the idol and getting someone else out-- but who? But then again, Nick as of last episode seemed set on a F4 that included Angelina and Mike, so I'm not sure who the 'opposing side' would be for him without making himself a big target.

I'm surprised Angelina hasn't dislocated her shoulder from patting herself on the back about getting more rice. She made sure everybody heard her tell her mother about it. It's too bad she or Allison wasn't voted off instead of Crygabby. Either is more capable of winning immunity.

I hope Davie, Christian, and Nick are the final three.

dumb thing I was thinking about the rice - every time there is a challenge where the winners get to go away and eat tons of food, doesn't that leave more rice for the people who didn't win? Or do those people come back and eat their share of the rice too? Just a random thought that doesn't mean anything! :-)

Smart move: Nick making the fake idol and wrapping it in the cloth his real one came in. Dumb move: hiding it in such a stupid spot and then 'finding' it himself. That was sssssoooooo fake. A real Idol would not have been that easy to find. Sucks that he wasted his real Idol tonight though.

Well damn. Probably a good move to vote out Christian but I wanted him in the Final 3. Now I am all in for Nick to win. :P

Dang, I wanted Christian voicing his game at FTC. But I am for Davie all the way; my ideal final three would be Christian, Davie and Nick. And Angelina REALLLLLLLY is freaking annoying and a psycho.

Where exactly did the whole "Alison is a threat" originate? Because tonight is the first time she's even seemed close to succeeding in a challenge, and she's not seemed to make any strong moves all game. Unless that was much earlier when I was bored by this season.

She won one of the early (maybe the first?) individual immunities. I think it just became the case of her being the easy target for many votes now— taking Angelina’s place, and people are trying to push her up as a threat to get the suspicion off of their real targets.

Figured Christian was going. And I still have this feeling Alison, Mike, and Angelina are going to band together to make the final three- as all three will maybe think that is the only scenario where they can talk themselves up for the win. Something about Angelina’s editing makes me think now that she has a seat in the Final.

I am bummed that Christian is gone. As entertaining this season has been, I think it might be not as good without him. He really made things fun and interesting. Rooting for Davie, then Nick.
it seems a shoo-in for Christian to be invited back, but any decent players would get rid of him immediately.

Allison is so boring.
I likde Mike, but now he annoys me. I just don't like that he is playing wishy washy. Please actually play.
And for someone I have not met, I hate Angelina. She is so smug and she didn't want to bring up the rice thing.
Oh please, you had this planned all along. I want her gone before the FTC as it would just fill her ego more.
Kara is there - just not sure how much she is doing.

Prancer - thanks for the link to the article. Good read.

I'm bummed Christian was voted out but I understand why they did it. He's one of my favourite players ever, on any season of Survivor.

I'm rooting for Davie and Nick too. They're playing really well.

Please get psycho Angelina off of my TV please. Thanks.

Angelina will probably be bringing up the rice for the rest of her life. Scene in the nursing home 50 years from now: "Do you want ice in your water?" "Did you say rice? That reminds me of the time I was on Survivor and gave up my chance for immunity so everybody could have rice."

I haven't liked Allison from the beginning. Her smirk when the Davids came on board the boat annoyed me. Mike is beginning to annoy me, too. Davie for the win and, if not him, Nick.

It's interesting, to me, that after being initially bored with this season, none of these final contestants are totally insufferable. Well, ok, Angelina is a twit; but she's a twit unconscious of how twitty she is, which is mildly amusing. Alison is of course just an elf on a shelf, who has never been the threat they claim she is (unless editing is just totally jacking with us), a goat-tastic final show contestant. Davie and Nick have solid "resumes", and I would add Kara to that list, who has quietly been a bit more involved in things, as well as providing for herself, than originally thought. Mike annoys me for no rational reason, but he's had his moves and glory as well. A FTC of Angelina, Alison and Mike would require serious alcohol to get through; but I kind of hope that Twitty makes it to the FTC, just so she can bring up her stellar negotiation skills and her rice sacrifice (yes, I gave up the chance to compete for immunity, something I would have had no chance of winning, just so I could annoy you all for the last 10 days of the game); I would love for EVERYONE on the jury to shout at her "WE KNOW!!" Should be an interesting/amusing finale.

I've been most amused at how much everyone has fallen in love with Christian. He is, to me, such a professor
I like Christian a lot, but I agree with you, and I would NOT want to be in his class, because he would go on and on and keep the class late all the time. When I was in grad school, one term I had this class on a MWF schedule at 4 pm. The professor travelled a lot, so we figured we would never end up having all those late classes, and especially the Friday one. Wrong. He didn't travel that term at all, so we had every single class, and on Fridays there was no one after us, so he would talk on after the ending bell, and then talk on after the next bell, and eventually would wind it up well after time. This would be Christian.

That said, I loved his ponderosa video.

Yes! And half the class would love him and think he was just fascinating and the other half would be rolling their eyes and raising their hands after every tangent to ask if this is going to be on the test. And Christian would blink at them, dumbfounded that someone would bring up something so irrelevant at a time like this and irritated that students are so fixated on checking off the box for his class and moving on when he talks about so many interesting things.

I liked professors like Christian if their subject matter interested me, and I hated them if it didn't. But EVERYONE hates the Christians of the academic world in meetings. And by hate, I mean that there will be faculty sitting there actively plotting his death.

Survivor Production Info--answers to a lot of the questions people have asked here over the years, like why don't the contestants pack more intelligently and what happens if they have to evacuate the island.

I am positive, however, that the contestants haven't been filmed 24/7 for several years, no matter what this article says.
