2024 Four Continents/Junior Worlds/Worlds US Team Speculation

Given that Bratti and Somerville did so well I wonder that too.

I’m guessing the Browns might be looking at their coaching options as well.
They might. Their season has been more up and down. The SC result was very strong for them. I think I'd be a bit surprised to see them go for something totally new. I could see them going full-time at IAM I guess, though I don't know if that's feasible/practical for them. If it's not, I'd think they stick with what they did this season, since there were definitely improvements imo.

Green/Parsons on the other hand, I wouldn't be that surprised to see make a bigger change.

question – as someone who studied the 1961 plane crash extensively are all the skaters, coaches and officials who are going to 4CC tomorrow flying together on a plane? Because after 1961, USFSA said the team would never travel on one plane as a group any longer.
Generally they're all on different flights just from what I've heard from skaters talking about getting to Shanghai.

If the Browns make a move, I would think it would be to become more politically powerful. After not being named first alternates to 4CC over Zingas/Kolesnik even after beating them head-to-head on the GP and having the higher Season's Best score, I would be weighing whether my current coaching situation is enough in the eyes of USFS.

I miss Avonlea too but I think you meant Zingas/Kolesnik? :)

Elyce Lin-Gracey is, indeed, Amber's replacement.
Really happy for Elyce to get this opportunity given that her nationals showing wasn’t going to be strong enough to get her on the junior worlds team.

I’m really hoping she has better skates in Shanghai and can improve her season’s best score and thus improve her chances of getting a GP next year. I don’t think she has anything to gain from another season on the JGP.

Seems like they are waiting until after 4CC to choose the Junior World team, so this may give her a shot to put herself back in the conversation.

^ After 4CCs and also after the individual and team events at YOG.

Given that Elyce is going to 4CCs I’m ok with the second junior world spot going to Sarah Everhardt, so both girls get something. That being said, if Elyce rebounds and does amazing at 4CCs maybe I’ll change my mind given that junior worlds decides JGP spots and of course spots for the following year’s junior worlds.

Not to take anything from Elyse, but I'm not clear how she got the nod to go to 4CC over Starr (or others)? Was it her total "body of work" (the spreadsheet), eligible age, etc?

I have someone that I can ask for more insight but he is a bit busy in Columbus, at the development camp.

Thanks!

Elyce was the first alternate when the team was named back in December (the alternates were ranked back then). The assignments are largely based on the fall season performances.

Elyce SB 39th, Audrey 42nd, Starr 50th. That seems to be the main criteria since nobody really did anything that amazing otherwise. Audrey and Starr have had tons of opportunities and are not heading in any particular direction with their results. I am more than fine with Elyce getting this spot of those 3.

Funny enough, the next 2 on the SB list are Clare and Sarah. Oh well!

I feel vindicated in my constant predictions that the ladies world team would be named long before 4CC

IKR? I was saying the same thing, lol.

And also after Bavarian Open, so we will know if either Zheng/Deng or Park/Griffin can earn the Jr Worlds TES mins (Smith/McPike didn't get the SP TES min at WYOG, so they're out of the equation now).

I'm sort of leaning the same way, though, about the JWC spots - Josephine and Sarah. That gives both Elyce & Sarah a chance to improve their SB and ISU Championships points which they desperately need if they plan on moving up completely next season.

Don’t Smith/McPike have another shot in the team event? IMO Zheng/Deng are still the best choice assuming they can get the SP minimum at Bavarian Open.

Top 5 from the Calculation Table = Malinin, Ma, Pulkinen, Torgashev, Naumov

Top 5 teams from Senior Nats - Malinin, Brown, Pulkinen, Naumov, Torgashev

Top 10 from 2023 Worlds - Malinin, Brown

2022 Olympians - Brown, (Chen, Zhou)

Top 24 on current Sr WR - Malinin

Worlds Team Prediction - Malinin, Brown, Pulkinen; alternates - Naumov, Torgashev, Ma

I'm sure it won't happen, but I wouldn't be mad if Gage parted company with his sister. I don't realistically see them making the next Olympic team, so the timing is now for 2030 dreams. :shuffle:
He's another short guy like Michael, Ian and Logan, so who exactly should he skate with?

I sincerely hope so unless their plan is to be Typhoid Marys who take out the rest of the competition.

I don't think I need to tell anyone that I'm anti-mask and anti-restriction, but there was really no need for Chock and Bates to skate today. They have many US titles already, and their Worlds spot was not in doubt. Going to 4CC when they're so visibly sick puts themselves and others at risk, plus it's stupid strategically to potentially end up off the podium in their last competition before Worlds.

The USFS should withdraw them if they don't come to their senses. I might excuse this type of behavior for Worlds or Olympics, but it's just unnecessary at US Nationals or 4CC.
🙄
