Copying over my first impressions:

The Canadian singles skaters depth is.. not there. Almost no assignments at all.

Surprising that Siao is doing France and China back to back but he probably got stuck with China as the last in his group as a seeded skater once Brown was removed. Aymoz would've had first choice in his group and he opted not to do France, or maybe the Federation suggested they split to try to both make the Final.

All four Italian men with 2 assignments each from the start.

Kurakova with only one assignment and she's 8th in the World Standings. Strange. (and not to forget 4th at Euros)

surprised to see some of the names. How, for example, did JYRKINEN and VAN ZUNDERT get their assignments?

No: Kurakova was outside the top 12 at 2023 Worlds (16th), and Top 24 SB and WS are guaranteed one, not one.for each.
But she is higher than JYRKINEN and VAN ZUNDERT in the SB ranking. She should have received the second assignment for the SB rating, since these girls received their assignments.

Really surprised about Kurakova. Although she's only 31 on the SB list. Schild (SB 40) got one. Only one for Guttman too.

Battle of Czech dancers at SA. :cheer:

Very few American men with 2 assignments.

Some intriguing head-to-heads for C/P against H/B and then Z/K for American dance.

Lots of spots for Japanese singles and deservedly so.

Here's the USFS article about the assignments:

I was a little surprised to see Lucas Broussard - thought maybe he'd stay junior one more year. And agree that it's surprising that only Ilia and Camden got two assignments from the US men. Will be interesting to see who does best out of the one assignment folks (Lucas, Max, Andrew, Jimmy and Liam).

There's no rule about this. If it happened in the past in practice, there's nothing to force the Feds to assign in any order outside the seeds and.after host selections. The only guaranteed two are for those who placed 1-12 in singles, and 1-10 in Pairs and Dance. (And possibly returning skaters, depending on how the Announcement is worded.)

An Olympic Champion who doesn't compete at Worlds but who's 8th or above in WS is guaranteed one. If it was in the Feds interest to assign her to two, she would have gotten two.

I hope.she gets another if she wants one and with enough time to be rational for her training plan.

And Lajoie & Lagha, Green & Parsons, & Taschlerova & Taschler all go to the same two events. (Watch them screw up the final for each other;)).
My first impression was that G/P could do very well and keep H/B out of the finals - hopefully I’m wrong about H/B not making it. It’s good to see they are coming back, and not surprising they have slightly tougher draws as they don’t have any kind of seeding from Worlds.

Don’t even think it!!

Anyway, France gets the first Ilia/Kagiyama matchup in 1.5 years. Wheeee!

Lol I just realized almost all of China's Cup of China assignments are tbd. I am super intrigued to see who they put out there (or if they even fill all their spots I don't even know who they have skating anymore haha). I will not clown and say I wish Sui/Han were coming back to fill one of the pair spots but also maybe if I put that out into the universe...

Also so happy to see Yuma back!! I've missed him so much.

Pairs as a discipline still looks to be in flux with three brand new teams in Espoo (Peng/Wang, Vaananen/Clerici, Hase/Volodin), lots of new teams last season getting their first GPs, teams moving up from juniors and 7 TBDs.

Not too many surprises in dance (thanks to our predictors!) but the middling ranked US teams seem to have done well (two non-host spots for Pate/Bye, Bratti/Somerville and Zingas/Kolesnik) at the expense of some of the teams moving up from juniors (only one for Bashynska/Beaumont and none for Bekker/Hernandez). I'm a bit surprised that Skate Canada went with Lanaghan/Razgulajevs for a host spot rather than a second GP for Bashynska/Beaumont.

Pairs has a decent number of teams available for alternates though, which is an improvement over last season. It seems that Peng/Wang were treated as a "return split couple" even though her last time at Worlds was 2021 (maybe the GP Host Commission decided to also count her finish at 2022 Olympics as meeting the criteria).

Yeah I didn't get this.
Yeah, that one is a bit of a surprise, though BashBeau are higher on the SB list and in the first block of 10 for the Alternates list, so maybe Skate Canada is hoping they'll pick up a 2nd somewhere.

Overall, very interesting assignments to start out with.

Not wishing withdrawals on anyone, but I think this is the initial ice dance alternates list:

1. McNamara/Spiridonov (USA) - GP de France
2. Ignateva / Szemko (HUN) - GP Espoo
3. Wang / Liu (CHN) - Skate Canada
4. Brown / Brown (USA) - Skate Canada
5. Orihara / Pirinen (FIN) - GP Espoo
6. Dupayage / Nabais (FRA) - GP de France
7. Bashynska / Beaumont (CAN) - GP Espoo
8. Harris / Chan (AUS) - Skate America
9. Bekker / Hernandez (GBR) - none
10. Fabbri / Ayer (CAN) - Skate Canada

Host picks Langahan/Razgulajevs and Komatsubara/Koleto are the only lower ranked teams who've got assignments.

ETA And the initial pairs alternates:

1. Roscher / Schuster (DEU) - Skate Canada
2. Osipova / Epstein (NED) - Skate America
3. Beccari / Guarise (ITA) - Skate Canada
4. Caldara / Maglio (ITA) - Skate America
5. Mokhova / Mokhov (USA) - none
6. Zhang / Yang (CHN) - none
7. Vouillamoz / Giniaux (FRA) - GP de France
8. Valesi / Piazza (ITA) - GP de France
9. Vaipan-Law / Digby (GBR) - none
10. Gamez / Korovin (PHI) - none
