It's also a GoE world, now, and I can imagine lots of potential for that across many elements such as lifts and throws especially.

Gauthier is very even keel and this will be helpful to Luba. Also, he brought in some jump specialists (forget who) who have helped Marinaro with his two-footing, which suddenly disappeared at 4CC.

She can do the jumps, so extra ice time will only do so much. The puzzle is to give her the right mental framework to approach them in competition just as they do in training.

It's about time! I'm so excited!

Finally it's official!! I'm so excited to see what these 2 will bring to the ice. And I'm happy they will be training with Richard & Bruno. I think this is going to be great for both them and MT/M--if all goes well, the competition should spur both teams forward. Wheeeeeeee.

YES! I think this will be interesting. I know there are many factors they will have to figure out - coaching, choreography, music, etc - but I trust that they'll figure something out. Lubov is one of the most uniquely talented skaters I've ever seen, and Charlie is a fairly reliable partner (although I'm still partial to Moscovitch). I think a lot of people are shooting it down before they even have a chance, and I hope they wow all the naysayers. (And heck, Tarasova/Morozov won Euros and World silver with Candyman so I guess programs aren't really that important after all!)

Most of all, I'm just so excited to see the Second Coming of the Russian Princess. I always thought she was robbed of her chance to go to the Olympics, and with the emptier Canadian field right now, there's no time like the present.

I hope Meagan is a part of this team. (I suspect a union of Meagan and Lubov could rule the world.)

I know they were roommates at Worlds in 2017, and Lubov said she got to know Meagan that year. I think Meagan could really help them; the only thing I would be concerned about is that she seems very "hands-on" and might start running the whole show!

Dylan and Liubov placed in the top 10 two of the three times they went to Worlds.

They sure did! And they would've been top 10 in 2015 if he hadn't Trankoved the death spiral - they landed all their jumps.

Interesting that Annabelle and Cody would choose the Montreal area, with Gauthier/Marcotte so well established and successful there for pairs. That's got to be hard to compete with. (Kind of like if Wing and Lowe suddenly moved to Montreal to start their own dance school to compete with Gadbois.)

On the other hand, Quebec funds its skaters, and Wing and Lowe would have had a lot more choice of students were they to move to Montreal -- it's a tough sell to be relatively isolated -- and there would have been another Detroit situation, with multiple strong rinks, and the ability to go across town if teams felt like they weren't getting a lot of attention, for example.

Wing/Lowe had established themselves before Gadbois. Sadly, they lost a most of their best teams to growth, injury, and retirement to go to college when they were still in the junior ranks. But if they were to move East, Montreal could be the place if ice were available.

This is sadly quite true. We complain about programs here, but the fact remains they don't matter much. Skate well and PCS climbs -- simple as that.

Probably more downside in picking music that alienates judges when you're still rising and not seen yet as a '9' skater. I think this is the reason we see so many down-the-middle choices from skaters not fully established.

For this team I'm expecting their short to be I PUT A SPELL ON YOU or CRY ME A RIVER (Buble) kinda thing, to pair with some obscure/epic/unbearable local French long. I'll be forced to hold my nose or suppress the vomit gathering in the back of my throat to instead simply wish them good skating.

Unfortunately the writing was always on the wall for Dalmer/Firus. I thought they were the best of that cohort ( I loved Edwards/Pang but thought Dalmer had better SS than Edwards) Dalmer was clearly going to grow too tall for Firus and Firus was clearly not going to grow at all. I believe Dalmer is about to graduate from university and has successfully moved on to another phase of her life. As an aside, I had the opportunity to interact with her on a number of occasions while volunteering at competitions. She was (I assume still is) a lovely person. Very polite and thoughtful.

Don’t be such a pessimist! I’m sure Luba will bring some of her awesome Cirque du Soleil creativity to the team.

T/M and Candyman are not needed to cite as an excuse to choose terrible programs. No doubt the judges are partial to T/M's other talents and thus overlooked that poor choice as well as their errors and inconsistencies that season, which is not happening as much this season.

Good luck to Luba & Dylan. I also hope that M-T/M find better programs next season, as their choices this season were okay, but not great.

We are talking about the gnarly, often frustrating, politically persnickety sport of figure skating, after all. But yeah, I get your drift.

With any new partnership, it all remains to be seen. It can work out absolutely great, or middling, or so-so. We have to wait and see. Luba & Dylan are certainly both talented, and all things are possible with motivated intention, dedication, commitment, hard work and mutual focus on a deeply held goal. The crazy thing is that it's also possible to have all those things going for you, along with talent and it still might not equal success. It's also a matter of luck and timing and having the right team and the right programs (which under the best of conditions can sometimes conjure magic either fleeting or enduring, but not always). Hopefully, for L&D, the 'stars will align' in their favor, eh! We shall see.

According to the SC press release, we will get our first look at L&D on the ice on April 1, 2019 (although I'm not sure why they picked April Fool's -- I would have gone with April 2!)

Great points! April 1 isn’t too far off, so I think I can hold on until then.

By the way, I notice you keep referring to them as Luba and Dylan. I see some of us are still nostalgic for the Ilyushechkina/Moscovitch magic!

I am in the same boat...They were always number one for me in all ways & how cruel that that misfortune happened.Each time I read the Luba and Dylan in my mind I would say "if only". Everyone knew what you meant so no biggie...I was just afraid you would give us some exciting in depth analysis and the Picky detail Police would slam you and ruin it....

My heart broke so hard last year during Olympic qualification and I don’t even want to think about it.

My French isn’t too good, so I’m afraid I can’t help you there ?

Same here ? I loved all four top Canadian pairs, but Luba and Dylan had that extra it-factor that made me a huge fan. Hopefully some of it will carry over into the new partnership though.
