Kemp and Elizarov are on the entry list for JGP Ankara (not on the Skate Canada events page yet), along with Desrochers and Thrasher (also previously assigned to JGP Riga) and Quattrocchi and Desmarais (previously assigned to JGP Ostrava).
One has to presume Kemp/Elizarov are doing back-to-back JGPs and will be assigned to Poland also. It wouldn't surprise me if they're the only team assigned to the last JGP but we'll see.

So Skate Canada updated their international assignments page and only the first two pairs are listed for JGP Ankara. Maybe they are waiting to see how Quattrocchi and Desmarais do at their first event, or maybe it's just an oversight.

Deanna and Max short program from Nebelhorn

For me, the Music is a bit trag-ique. I just wish skaters would just sometimes or if not most the time to choose the original version and not these emo or crazy edits.

It’s not just the music. That program doesn’t have much going for it from a choreographic standpoint either. I’m surprised Deanna allowed the most mid Julie Marcotte choreo to see the light of day. Do we know if they had an injury or something over the summer? This is their first outing, and the elements look decent, but the program looks undercooked in a way a find surprising from them. There was a lack of polish to that that we didn’t see from them at the beginning of the last two seasons.

There’s time to fix this, so not particularly worried yet, but right now this vehicle isn’t going to help their case against a strong group of pairs at the top.

And Lia and Trennt are still being held back by a lack of wow. Good elements but no real wow elements. I prefer this sp to last year’s, but there’s a clear bar between their current level and the top 5-7 pairs in the world. I would love to see if they could take more steps forward with some alternative coaching.

Deanna and Max need to get far away from Marcotte and get some innovative choreo by Shae Lynne.

Trennnnnnnnt and Lia need a new coach and way better packaging. At this point it’s just being stuck in their comfort zone, but they are almost regressing

Very boring SP. I was surprised.

I was also underwhelmed by Lia and Trent. I’m not sure that they’re the best pair now…size difference.

Here is Deanna and Max free program from Nebelhorn

To me the costumes have a very 80s/90s feel, very Matchy Matchy. Didn’t like the music as per usual however, the last 30 or 40 seconds really come to life.

That lift position she holds in the second to last lift, all of my props to pair girls, I could not do that.

I think the FD for Deanna and Max has a good music edit and the concept is interesting and reflected in the choreography. So am open to see how it grows. Will definitely be a harder sell than their vampire FD as I am not sure they are totally suited to this style but again, open minded, the possibility is there.

Short though is a miss for me. Last years short was a home run from the first time I saw it. Read a quote from Deanna and it seems she believes she is catering to a US audience with this choice but it's stuck on first base imo. It's just not an interesting music version of that song and really drags so any mistakes are just going to be even more glaring.

This program is much more workable than the short. It still needs some time, but I think it will be a good program in time. I too think the costume could be better though. She reminds me of the first Lyra Angelica dress that Kwan wore in the fall of 97 that no one liked. Something less busy and a richer blue would be good I think.

Also, I’d really get rid of that throw flip. They do not do it particularly well, and if history is an indicator, they will probably miss it more often than not. The small base value increase isn’t worth what they will lose in goe vs a throw sal that they can do quite well. They slow down going into the flip and it just looks unsteady and doesn’t help the overall impression of the program. If I might be blunt about it, that is not a world class element for them and I don’t ever see it being one. And they can’t afford that in the global field.

Liked the new LP from Deanna & Max, but not sure why they incorporating the "vampire lift" again at the end... strange choice no??? Is there a vampire swimming in the water or something?

It feels to me like D & M repeated the same choreography as last season and simply switched the music. Weren't all of the elements the same and performed in the same order as last years' LP ? The flying arms lift made sense in Vampire but not here. I also wonder why they or the choreographer once again chose to end their program at the far corner of the rink; I think it would be more effective to do it in middle ice or close to it. They were definitely out performed by the German.

I think their SP music this year is tragic. Here is to hoping that they return to last year's music or come up with a new one.

This time last year after seeing their programs I got the feeling that other pairs including the Japanese were going to struggle to beat Deanna and Maxim if they went clean. This time around they'd be lucky if they hang on to 3rd place. Like someone above said why recycle choreography from last season's programs? I expected better from Deanna considering her excellent work ethic. Shae-lynn would've given them much better programs.

Although I'm not entirely sold, I think the Germans have put together two programs, when skated clean, will be hard to beat.

The Germans are amazing but like last season, they started out undefeatable, and then by the time worlds came round they did not make the podium if I remember correctly.

Have Deanna and Max ever ventured out to innovative, choreographers? Or do they stick with in house with Julie?

ANL don’t claim to be a licensed choreographer but I feel like I could serve up some sass and innovative movement.

Oh, ANL... Oh, ANL... MiNiki started out strong, won the GPF in a bit of a surprise, had a bad Euros and didn't medal there, but bounced back for bronze at Worlds. Go get your facts straight before posting.

DeAnna & Max don't even have to go to Shae-Lynn, they could just go across town to Marie-France for better choreo than they get from Julie Marcotte.

They aren’t actually finishing with the same lift as last year. The three lifts are the same, but in a different order. It’s extremely common for teams to repeat lifts from year to year, so that doesn’t particularly bother me.

But I do agree the choreography is non descript enough that it does appear they are skating the same program as last year at times. I really do wonder what was their off seasons was like because they just do not seem as far ahead with the development of the programs as the last two years.

I would scrap the short entirely and go back to the drawing board. And while they’re at it, trying a different choreographer would be a great idea.

The long I think can be worked into something very nice. I would spend some time finding some uniqueness to it that it is lacking right now. But it’s not the dire situation that the short is.

Oh Kitty Kat the only fact I got wrong is that they finished fourth and not third. Otherwise my facts are correctly stated. They started off super strong won their Grand Prix won the final and then pretty much went South from where they had been.

Watch the Japanese and German teams long programs from last year and compare them to their new long programs. You will notice that it's basically the same elements in the same order to different music for them as well. Once a team finds what works for them, they tend to stick with it. It's not as obvious to us with the German team yet because it's only their second full season competing together. I like all three teams but with all of the rules and levels, it's hard to be original and look totally different from year to year.

Good to see Fiona Bombardier/Benjamin Mimar had a solid competition at Souvenir Georges-Éthier this weekend - 108.62 in FP, 165.17 total score. Someone has uploaded their La La Land FS (choreo. by Julie Marcotte) from today's livestream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly4zd-RAFkI
From the Canadian comps thread in Kiss & Cry:
...their protocol looks pretty good: https://resultats.patinage.qc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/SD-eve-29.pdf

Seems they had two good throws. Their total score was 165+ which exceeds the domestic benchmark score for an international so hopefully they will get one.
CS Warsaw Cup perhaps?
