New/Returning Shows for the week Sunday June 09/2019 - Saturday June 15/2019: https://www.cinemablend.com/televis...le-premiere-dates-for-new-and-returning-shows

Monday, June 10

7 p.m. - Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? Season 4 - Nickelodeon
Please post any updates I may have missed.
The summer of game shows? I had to check to see if this one was new. I set my DVR for all the first run ones. At least it's only a half hour show.

"The series that made some parents blush and their kids beam is coming back to wreak more havoc at the dinner table. Nickelodeon has set 7 p.m. Monday, June 10, for the premiere of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? with new host John Cena.

The game show will relaunch with a week-plus of new episodes through June 19 before settling into its regular 7 p.m. Monday slot on June 24."

Have anyone watched "The Spanish Princess" about Catherine of Aragon? Is it any good?

I have now watched 4 or 5 episodes over the course of several weeks.

On that basis, I'd say I consider it neither a waste of time nor must-see TV, but somewhere in between. I will watch to the end, but I don't feel the need to get there ASAP.

Re The Spanish Princess I said

I don't know much about the court of Henry VII, but I know enough about Henry VIII that there is not much suspense about which of various plans will or will not come to fruition. Always a danger with historical fiction.

There was recently a short free preview of Superchannel, which carries The Spanish Princess in Canada. It also included free VOD of previously aired episodes so I got to watch the first 7 episodes, I think. As the show itself warns, for dramatic effect some of it is not exactly historically accurate. I found it quite entertaining. The brutal realities are not exactly whitewashed, but are more alluded to than shown. Thankfully as I have seen more than enough Tudor England realism in other series covering Henry VIII & Wives and Elizabeth I. I welcome the series because I think we can use a more complete telling of Catherine of Aragon's story. She always seems to get skipped over so quickly whenever all 6 wives are featured. Of course that said I am not about to sign up for Superchannel just to get the rest of this program.

(y)I really enjoyed Reef Break. Very fun! :cheer: Beautiful scenery (both the location and the cast) and very good writing. The cast is exceptional, especially the captivating lead, Poppy Montgomery.

Trailer for Reef Break: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsst-47wr3c

For fans of The Good Wife (especially of Christine Baranski), CBS began airing edited versions of Season 1's The Good Fight on CBS this past Sunday: https://www.vulture.com/2019/06/the-good-fight-cbs-network-tv-edit.html

ETA: I'm thinking about registering for CBS All Access' free trial to watch all 3 seasons.

I love The Good Fight. Highly recommended.(y)(y)

Is anyone watching Nik & Lijana Wallenda?? Uh, what the hell just happened to the feed! Did something happen! Lijana wasn't even to the end yet!

ETA: Whew. Well, she's off the wire now. But my channel cut out when she was still pretty far out on the wire and had like 5 solid minutes of commercials. Came back and she's hugging Nick. Did that happen for everyone??

No specific show, but I was watching a Reba rerun yesterday and at the end a screen came on that said "Freeform is taking a short break. We have absolutely nothing to do with what you are about to see". (the bold is mine) The show coming on was 700 Club. Wow. Freeform used to be the Family Channel. I guess they have edgier stuff on in the evenings? I only watch Reba and The Middle reruns sometimes when I'm sitting at the breakfast bar having a snack or doing something. Why keep the 700 Club on there if they are going to "protest" it?

Because I am dead certain that Pat Robertson had it signed in blood when he sold the Family Channel that whoever bought it would have to carry the 666 Club for the next 2 centuries or the Rapture, whichever came first.

That apparently doesn't mean that the current owners can't disclaim its content.

Pat Robertson owned the family channel? It was recently called ABC Family Channel. 666 Club - I love it. Isn't that on enough other channels somewhere? Would somebody specifically turn on Freeform to watch it? I was already going to change the channel or turn off the t.v. I'm surprised I haven't seen that message before.

I've seen disclaimers on other channels, like this program does not necessarily represent the views of the management of this station or something, but "We have absolutely nothing to do with what you are about to see"? It's like they are about to show porn or something! :):):)

Pat Robertson's CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network) was founded in 1960 and started broadcasting in 1961 -- in 1977 they launched a cable network, CBN Satellite Service, which then became the CBN Cable Network in 1981 (and this is when they started mixing in secular programming with their religious programming). In 1988, it was rebranded as The Family Channel, and in 1990, it was sold to a group called International Family Entertainment (owned by Robertson's son, Timothy -- this was done because the network was becoming too profitable for CBN to maintain it's non-profit status at the time) -- as conditions of this sale, the channel was contractually REQUIRED to maintain airings of the 700 Club and an annual telethon on the last Sunday in January, and these conditions have applied to ALL FUTURE OWNERS of the channel. News Corporation bought it in 1997 (owned by Rupert Murdoch and then the name of the network was changed to Fox Family Channel in 1998), who then sold it to The Walt Disney Company in 2001 (when it re-branded as ABC Family), and ABC re-branded the channel again as Freeform in 2016.

I imagine Pat probably isn't too happy to this day considering that one of Freeform's most successful programs (and one of my favorites for awhile) was "The Fosters", about a lesbian couple who adopted several children, many of which had sexuality struggles themselves (I loved the show and thought it was very real and still taught many good lessons, and was sad when it got cancelled).

I'm not going to be able to watch American Ninja Warrior from Cincinnati because AT&T won't carry NBC because of a contract dispute. I'm sure they'll have it resolved before the new fall shows come on, but geez. ANW is the only thing on this summer.
This happened with the same channel when I had Time Warner way back, right before Skate America. I had to get an antenna and watch it on a big clunky t.v that I could not move from an old dresser and still didn't get good enough reception.

Meryl Streep is awesome.

Isn't she just? She always delivers, but really knocks it out of the ballpark here. Her character is interesting, real, and dimensional. It's easy to see how a mother like that could influence her child to be like Reese Witherspoons' character

basically, a spoiled, entitled, whiny and egocentric brat
I do have one issue with 'Big Little Lies', however. The women are just way too rich to be relatable, for me. And their lives seem to be free of financial worry, excepting

Laura Dern's character. But the bankruptcy was her husband's doing. She didn't lose her multi-million dollar oceanfront home, and could still afford to give her daughter a birthday party that must have cost thousands.

Oceanfront homes in the Bay area costs millions! How the single mom (mom of Ziggy) afford it? We know who the father is, and while presumably he pays child support, but would that cover the rent of an apartment in the Bay Area.

And he's dead now. So has Nicole Kidman's character assumed the payments? Are they coming out of a trust or inheritance? [/QUOTE]

2019 Emmys List

Really scratching my head at all the GOT nominations, considering the final season was panned or criticized by so many.

And I'm annoyed that Linda Cardellini was not nominated for Dead to Me, whereas Christina Applegate was. Blonder actress wins??

Do insiders vote on the nominees? I know HBO submitted what it submitted (like they submitted epi 8 for GOT drama selection) but I don't know how the nominees become the actual nominees.

I could see that insiders might want to thumb their nose at critics and internetz fans.

I am glad Alfie was nominated even if it was 4 seasons too late.
