Fall 2024-Summer 2025 New/Returning/Streaming/TV Shows

DANG!!! I was watching Homicide Hunter with Joe Kenda before realizing the victim in the case was Kelsey Grammer’s sister. I read about him and his sister some time ago. So very sad. Homicide Hunter: season 08 x episode 18

I had the same issue with Hulu but was able to finally log into the Hulu app my Disney login. I like that app’s interface better than Disney so I didn’t want to have to go through Disney every time.
Yeah, I tried multiple times, but no go. I may try again later, but for now I have my Hulu shows saved in Disney+.
I renewed my $2/month Starz subscription but I wish they had better original content. I’ve only watched two shows on there that were both just ok. I renewed just in case a new interesting show comes out.
Were you not eligible for the $1/month deal? You have to pay the year in advance. I agree on the content but thought it was worth $12.

I renewed it a couple of weeks ago and they were only only the $2 deal then. I should have waited but didn't think they'd go any lower!

ANL Notes

Is anyone here watching HEATED RIVALRY? Holy moly, son of a gun, finally LGBT scenes that equal those of their straight counterparts. Even my gay friends agree this is soft porn.

So many people have recommended the new monster series to me the Ed Gein story oh my god what sicko thought of the story lines? It’s hard for me to get through this.

In episode one or two I only got really interested when they actually introduced Anthony Perkins and his boyfriend tab Hunter, who my mom actually had a crush on lol.

And last, but not least real housewives of Beverly Hills starts tonight. What can I say?

I finished watching "Down Cemetery Road" and liked it very much. Emma Thompson is easily my favorite actress and she doesn't disappoint here. Ruth Wilson is excellent as well. More please.

I recently watched and enjoyed Talamasca: The Secret Order on AMC. Anne Rice is one of my favorite authors, and while this story isn't a direct adaptation of one of her books, I think I liked it more because of that. It expands on her "Immortal Universe" in a fun way (although for those who get queasy when there's a lot of blood, I think vampire stories are their own warning, so not for everyone).

Really excited for the new season of Interview with the Vampire when it comes out next year. It's being re-titled "The Vampire Lestat," to reflect the shift in focus to a new lead character (while Jacob will still be there as Louis, Lestat will be taking center stage, as he should, lol). I absolutely adore Sam Reid as Lestat, so this is on my must-watch-immediately-when-it-comes-out list.

Another one I'm looking forward to is the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which starts tonight on Disney Plus. I know it's mostly a kids' show, but supernatural/fantasy is my jam, so I'm going to be glued to my TV tonight. :)

I am watching Apollo 13 on Starz right now. Somehow I never saw it. I heard a podcast where Kevin Bacon describes how they filmed the sequences where they were weightless —they went up on the NASA vomit comet rocket 600 times to get all the footage. It’s nice to watch and think about how good the science and engineering generally were, and the explorer and patriotic attitudes that they had.

ETA: I forgot to say I got an email offer for a standalone Hulu subscription for $2.99/month. Super annoyed about it because I took the Disney+/Hulu offer for $4.99/month on the last or maybe second to last day it was offered. I didn’t really want the Disney part of it.

I love that movie. I'm not an overly emotional person in general, but its story really hit me in the feels, y'know? It wasn't just about these heroic men and their journey, but also how everyone behind the scenes worked so damn hard to get them home, how worried their families were, etc. It painted a full picture of what space exploration meant for everyone involved. And it was a nice touch at the end when they talked about where their lives took them afterward.

I loved it too. When you look at every emerging problem with that mission you appreciate the skill, work and risk involved in getting them home.

Last weekend, I binge watched the new Netflix docuseries, “Sean Combs: The Reckoning”. My overall score: 8.7/10.

Well, this was certainly one way for 50 Cent to get his revenge………😬. It was very compelling, especially if you’ve been curious about Combs’ place throughout the history of hip-hop. Especially the controversies.

I read most of the Game Changers books and HR has A LOT of sex, possibly even more than made it into the show.

It's cool that it seems to be successful and that we'll be getting a second season - presumably based on The Long Game with bits of Role Model, which is my actual favorite in the series.

As a person that is LGBT, I do find it refreshing that finally we have a series that has been given the same treatment of heterosexual people for decades.

Some scenes are quite eye-opening, although if anybody watched ANora last year nothing happening here that wasn’t happening there.

There are a lot of m/m romance novels in general, and hockey ones specifically, though mostly written by women so I can't say how good the representation is. Let me know if you want any recs (and future series to advocate for, haha).

A LOT made it into the show lol. I find the plot pretty thin so far. The episode I enjoyed the most was Ep 3 with the two guys who are not the main characters.

Heated Rivarly the book is mostly Shane and Ilya hooking up until around the tuna melt scene, and they don't fully commit to each other until even later. Also, Shane is boooooooring. Hudson Williams manages to do a lot with that character, there's more depth to him in the show I think (Connor Storrie is perfect as Ilya).

Ep. 3 is based on Game Changer, which I haven't read but apparently isn't the best entry in the series. Scott Hunter does show up in some of the other books, though.

I finally watched it last night since I was gone all last week I was surprised that the plot seem to deviate towards another LGBT character on the hockey team. Although I think I fell asleep at the end, because I was so tired, I have to go back and watch the ending of that one.

the only thing I can remember that had the same type of content was “looking” on Showtime which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I really enjoyed Looking! I thought it was so much better than this so far.

Looking is kinda typical serialized TV drama about people in a coastal city with relationship dramas. I prefer the condensed, hyper-focused storytelling of Heated Rivalry.

I think Ron Howard did a fantastic job in creating a sense of danger and concern for a story where you already know the ending. That's an incredible skill. It's one of those film I will happily watch whenever I see it pop up as an option on TV. I was shocked and surprised when someone told me it was generally thought to not be a great film.
