I found a Hindi language series while surfing Prime, and I really liked it! It's called Dahaad and features a badass female detective tracking down a serial killer. It is filmed in Rajasthan, which is beautiful, the characters are fleshed out, the acting is excellent across the board, and the social justice themes (not that different from Barbie) are illustrated very poignantly without being strident.

Ooo, I'll have to check it out.

Was wondering about two of my favourite shows and found out that both Roswell, New Mexico as well as Stargirl were both cancelled. Luckily The Cleaning Lady will be back for a season three.

Tonight in Canada, CTV is airing "The Traitors" at 9pm. It's a reality show that previously streamed on Peacock. My TV listings give this brief summary:
I don’t watch a ton of reality competition series but I watched that one. It’s really great if you’re at all into that kind of show. I basically watched it because of Alan Cumming, but I really enjoyed it.

Well--am I happy camper! I am perusing the Roku Channel and found the earliest seasons of "The Great British Baking Show." The first season almost seems like an experiment. I am starting the second season and this seems like the show we are accustomed to on Netflix. They also have the 1995 version of "Persuasion" and I see a listing for "An American Werewolf in London" which is one I have enjoyed and not seen for some time. And that is looking for five minutes....Roku might have many treasures and it is free.

Is anyone watching The Golden Spoon on Hulu? It's a Korean drama/Sci-fi where people can obtain a golden spoon and change their parents to get a wealthier life. From the descriptions it displaces the original child of the new wealthy parents and causes all kinds of problems. It sounds like it could be interesting but not sure.

Tonight the CW network is airing season two of the reality TV show Fboy Island tonight at 9pm. It originally aired last summer on HBO Max. The premise is for three women who are interested in a serious relationship to determine which of the 24 men on the show are also into a serious relationship or are...not (and are therefore an fboy). The host is comedian Nikki Glaser.

Just watched the latest Star Trek episode--it turns out the Enterprise crew has some musical talent. Nicely done.

The format has also been sold to New Zealand and Australia, so there are other versions out there. I personally think it sounds ghastly, but it is apparently popular.

I haven't watched it yet, so good to know that - I have some misgivings about the concept.

ETA: Watched it. Not entirely sure I like it, but not as bad as I feared. Best bit was Spock talking about bunnies.

It made more sense on Buffy. A demon making people sing makes more sense than something in space. The change in the opening credits was fun.

I also wonder if there was some auto tuning, lip synching and the possibility of ghost singers.

I will admit to watching it on HBO, fast forwarding through a lot. Nikki Glaser is great in it and it’s fun to try and guess if F Boy or Nice Guy. As trash TV goes it wasn’t bad. They also added some new twists between S1 and S2 which kept it fresh.

Just a reminder that we are in the middle of ESPN 8: The Ocho "sports" schedule that lasts through tomorrow. You might see more familiar sports like kickball, cornhole, wiffleball, dodgeball and arm wrestling. But there are the unusual "sports" like pillow fighting, Microsoft Excel spreadsheet championship and the Mullet championship. On ESPN 2.

Oh, there definitely was auto-tuning. You could hear it in spots. I don't think there were ghost singers because some of them were not great singers so if those people didn't get ghost singers, why would anyone?

I think the Buffy and Scrubs musical episodes were fun but this one was just meh. The songs weren't good enough most of the time, for one thing.

Negotiations started on Friday and so far no news on progress. I think we should lock both sides in a tiny room with no bathrooms and not let them out until they come to an agreement! LOL

It wasn't a return to negotiations so much as it was a meeting to discuss returning to the negotiating table where the AMPTP's representatives asked for a press blackout on what was discussed and then during the meeting started leaking what they had been talking about to the press. This article has the WGA's statement about the meeting.

I actually enjoyed it and the Ready Room discussion about filming the musical sequences. I think I’m even going to watch it again. There’s a lot revealed about the characters in the lyrics. I thought some of Spock’s and Uhura’s were particularly poignant, with Uhura singing about always being alone and Spock’s regrets or emotion about Chapel, and especially his line at the end of one of his songs, “I won’t make that mistake again.”

You can see throughout this season his character arc is to become more like the Spock we knew in ST: TOS where his character arc was to become more human/better able to reconcile his two sides.

I find this very interesting because you can see how a young, inexperienced Spock is reacting to similar incidents in a less mature way. I wonder also if this is a sign he doesn't have the trust and relationships with this crew that he had with the Enterprise crew.

As Spock would say: Fascinating.
