If it comes down to Kondriatiuk-Semenenko-Aliev, then I suspect Aliev gets left off the team. I don't think the RusFed has forgotten that team event performance from Aliev in Pyeongchang. They'll go with the two, young upstarts and Kolyada for Beijing.
Aliev didn't skate the team event in Pyeongchang. That was Kolyada

But Aliev didn't do the Team Event in Pyeongchang. It was Kolyada who did poorly and was crucified for it. Thankfully he has overturned that with last season good showing and programs.

I do agree that if it comes down to those 3 they will prefer the 2 younger ones, so Aliev needs to pull results heads and shoulders above the others.

Malinin's not going back to "Father Uzbekistan" ;) when he can make Team USA.
Personally, I'd be thrilled to see him upset the Olympic team selection, but I think his best bet will be 2026.
SlightlyKnown Jesus YES, Ignatov however has had like what? 3 seasons already of always on the verge and never happening. I dont count on this season to be different.

The battle for me right now is Kondratiuk-Semenenko-Aliev. Misha will get in cause reputation and PC bonus despite the splats, and honestly deservengly so.
IF and that's a giant if, Aliev skates clean, he beats Kondratiuk and Semenenko on PCS alone. The problem is he gives away so many points with his wonky jump landings. Semenenko is pretty reliable to stay on his feet. It won't be pretty and there's no hope of an Olympic medal, but, top 10 for sure. Same with Mark. Probably. I suspect the Fed is going to be looking hard at the team gold. The odds of any of the men ending up on the podium are slim to must have been a total disaster among the top skaters like Sochi that allowed D10 to edge into bronze. But, they can help secure a Russian gold in the team event.

Mishin really needs to rethink what he's doing with Kolyada's programs. You've got to give him the best programs and hope he skates up to them and not so-so programs and hope he doesn't skate down which is what the case is right now. But, he could be back to White Crow by nationals and a 3rd SP. I just hope Mishin ponders how to maximize potential. He's impossible to predict however.

Oh, that's right. They're all TTW hot messes, I get them mixed up.

I do think that Aliev is going to be the odd one out if he finishes behind Kondriatiuk & Sememenko at RusNats and/or Euros, though.

I am so disappointed in Russian pairs, honestly :slinkaway
WTF is that M/G program - starting from their costumes, music pieces, labored skating and super high marks.
Why Tarasova/Morozov long program looks like it was choreographed for 15 yo Tutberidze girl who wants to become an Aliona?

:slinkaway

New Spanish team, OTOH
And Minerva’s dress

Yes, Our Boy tries to get out of the team. Should I have told him to stay?
Galliamov padded leather pants and Doc Martins boot should be worn on the ice, not off. His dull gray pants really not highlight his assets enough.
I would sell a lot for Rizzo's eyelashes. I wonder how they would look if he used mascara...
My costume specialist loves Hocke's SP costume.

You've got to love a good #tongueofdisgust
One of his many redeeming qualities.

And Gubanova starts her road to Beijing tomorrow. So excited.

Can't help: love Aliev.
Cannot stand the costume, hair and the kinda blah progam.
But ATWGO is one of my absolute fav music pieces, the slide into the flip is back and he ist just :swoon:

More highlights:
  • Frangipani coach pulling his pants down (who is she? Help folks! Need her for Tursy-POTS)
  • Majorov :( Tremendous overall skating improvement, but that was a horror ride today, POTS!
  • Semenenko. Hair!
  • Britschgi program. Still not sure I love or hate. But so modern, needs better costume.
  • Starostin. Bye Paul!

So the final results for Finlandia look entertaining as hell, with so many big changes between the SP and the LP. Was the competition itself a total hot mess or is it worth rewatching tonight?

Agreed on all counts.
The beard needs to go and a haircut is badly needed.
The costume looks heavy and outdated and emphasizes how slow he seems to be skating and the overall power he's lacking.
Positives: Love the music and the flip-slide, too. And he landed shit!
