The Voice Spring 2016

White Room. :swoon:

And on another topic, Blake is looking very toothsome these days.

I'm really not picking on Alisan tonight but  to her song choice. I don't know what I would have picked, and she sang beautifully, but...

I think Adam is going to win, but he was my least favorite tonight. He bored me, and I don't think his voice is anything special.

Hannah was just weird. I think she has no idea who she is as an artist and it feels like she's playing pop star. Nothing feels authentic. I know the lyrics for her "original" aren't very complicated, but I suspect she had little to do with the creation of that song other than being the inspiration for the lyrics. But, she's apparently very popular. She does have a decent voice, and she's pretty and sweet. And from Nebraska. :D

I'd be happy with either Laith or Alisan winning. I'll vote for both of them. I've preferred both of them in previous weeks, but I still thought they were better than the other two both tonight and in the season as a whole.

Don't worry. I'm pretty sure that he's not gonna win. At best, runner-up. My pick is for Laith to win. But I know that's a very long shot. My second choice is Alisan who I'm pretty sure will win. Hannah's cover of 'Every Breath You Take' was so different from the original, that I could not recognize it. It's like she's singing the lyrics to an entire different melody. Even though Hannah is my least favorite, I kinda her version.

Interesting, but not exactly fair, that the "song Hannah wrote" was obviously a complete Pharrell creation with exactly one phrase contributed by Hannah. Of course that one phrase was at least 80% of the lyrics.

The only song I thought Alisan did really well on was Somewhere -- I thought that Christina completely overshadowed her in You've Got A Friend, and her original song was dull dull dull.
Adam W played it way too safe -- he has really stood out when he did things other than safe, bland, middle of the road country (he was better with the Allman Brothers, Ray Charles, etc.) but I'm pretty sure that Blake picked his songs to show a big flashing neon light saying "COUNTRY MUSIC" every time he was on stage.
Until Alison sang Somewhere, I thought Laith had won the night, but there's no way he's winning the show.

Okay, am I the only one who doesn't get the Laith Love? I feel like I am watching "It" from the Adam's Family. He can play guitar for sure but his voice, in my opinion, doesn't compare to the other three. What is going on. If he wins, I will be disappointed.

Listen to a minute of White Room on Itunes. He's got a great blues voice. I didn't cotton to him for a long time, he's sure not pretty, but I've come to want him to win. I bought his song on Itunes but I'm pretty sure Alisan, who picked a real crowdpleaser with Somewhere even if she shrieked too much at the end, has this in the bag.

Christina is a vocal goddess. She overshadows anyone who sings with her. I actually thought that she did a good a pretty good job of reining it in and was trying her best not to overshadow Alisan. It could have been a lot worse. I'm not even a huge fan of Blake's singing, but I thought that he also sounded better than his duet partner.

Okay, am I the only one who doesn't get the Laith Love?

For the longest time, I thought I was the only one who liked Laith. His musical style is definitely my cup of tea, and he does it really, really well. Although he has been one of my favorites, both because of his guitar playing and his vocals, I have been surprised over and over again that he has lasted so long. I really do think it's over for him now. If Adam doesn't win, I think it will be Alisan. But, I'm really happy for Laith because I think this experience will change his career. He'll be able to play more shows to larger audiences. And he'll hopefully have the resources to be able to record the way he wants to record.

I'm not even convinced that Hannah wrote that line. I think she just inspired it. Well, at least Pharrell helped her in that regard. Also, he is not a great singer, so Hannah sounded better than he did in their duet. Though I was not all that impressed with the duet.

The Hannah-Pharrell duet was the least impressive. I floved that Beatles duet with Adam and Laith, they were both so into it, John Lennon was smiling somewhere.

However, Hannah's take on the Police, while it sounded nothing like the original, was powerful and impressive. Pharrell did do a lot with her, I don't think she's going back to teaching preschool in Nebraska.

One of the local news teams sent a reporter out to spend the day with her in Los Angeles. Except they said "Los Angeles" in this weird tone, like it was the most foreign place they could think of to send a reporter. Like it was Bhutan or something. Way to make us sound like total hicks, WOWT news anchor.

I swear for the first few bars I thought Hannah was singing the lyrics from "Every Breath You Take" to the melody from "Seduces Me" by Celine Dion. The phrasing is very similar as well.

ETA: I'm 24 hours late watching this. The only performance I watched the whole way through was Laith's original song. The whole night was kinda meh for me.

Laith and Joe Walsh. Best Voice duo ever. Except Allison Kraus is coming up and she's one of my favorite singers singing one of my favorite songs. What a dilemma. Sigh I used to date a singer whose version of Willing was one of the best I've ever heard. Long time ago.

i hate country music but i love jennifer nettles, i'd call in a vote for her if they would let me

(or NOT KELLY as i call her if you watched Duets)

No you are not alone.
Thank goodness he didn't win

Laith is killer on the guitar, but to me his voice is slightly weak and he relies too much on the growl. I was with Blake when he said he relies too much on the guitar. I always thought if it was just Laith and the microphone, it wouldn't be that great. It kind of bugs me that he didn't really just 'sing' on a show called 'the voice'.

Over the years, there have been countless contestants that have played guitar. The difference with Laith is that he is really, really good at it. Last night he did a lot of guitar playing to close out one of his songs, but I have no problem with that. I wouldn't have a problem with that even if he thought that he had a shot at winning based on that. (After needing the Twitter save last week, I'm pretty sure that Laith and Adam both knew that this week was just about building a fan base for the future and showcasing the guitar made total sense.) At least the guitar playing is about music. I'd much prefer that someone try to get votes through playing the guitar than by invoking God or relying on sob stories. It really annoyed me that Blake kept trying to make it a negative that Laith played guitar. Blake plays this game with so much non-music B.S. that it's ridiculous to complain about a guitar player.

And, IMO, Laith has a good voice. He was better than plenty of the other contestants, including Blake's Paxton, who I thought did not even deserve to be in the top 12. Blake was constantly selling Paxton on things other than his vocals. In fact, I can't remember him ever really saying that Paxton was a good singer.

XTINA Won! :cheer2: And her singer too, but who cares about her. Excellent show last night. Laith is an excellent musician and he should get lots of studio work or jobs with his band out of this. And, Adam probably has a bigger future in country music than does Alison in pop. But, I don't really care what they do going forward because that's partly getting a good agent who will get them what they need. Most don't. I watch the program to be entertained while it's showing and not for the future of the contestents.

While flipping back and forth, I caught this - the way she sang that song made me think of Lost Inside of You by Barbra Streisand in A Star Is Born. (I don't know how to do this like you did, but - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fn_Jf2ByhQs)

According to local news/Orlando police chief, the well-armed 21 year old assailant came to Orlando from elsewhere in FL, with the intent to kill Christina.
He had 2 handguns, magazines, and a hunting knife.
If her brother had not tackled him, he likely would have killed others.

The authorities are on their way to the murderer's home to investigate further.

I have never watched this show, so I didn't know who. Hoisting Grimmie was, but I saw this news on TV and was very shocked. How horrible! How awful for her brother to see his sister get killed. I am impressed that he had the presence of mind to tackle the gunman. I have no words, but I send my condolences to the family.

Autocorrect probably changed the bolded part above but I can't figure out what you meant to say. Anyway shock & horror is what I felt this morning. I am struggling to understand what was in his mind that he thought it would be ok to kill a complete stranger. But then I seldom understand all the evil that people do.
