Corrected below:

Bradie Tennell is WS 17, even with no points from this season, after WS was updated for Worlds results:
https://results.isu.org/ws/ws/wswomen.htm

She's guaranteed one GP spot, assuming the rules don't get tighter. I wonder whether they'll make any adjustments for Russian skaters not being eligible. (Glenn is WS 26.) But I do hope that they remove Miyahara from the list before the GP selection (with her retirement announcement), because that would bump Paganini into 24th place and a GP spot.

That's not updated for the end of season though. Before that list is used for GP spots, they'll drop all the points from 2019-20, and make the points from 2020-21 worth only 70%.

Most of Bradie's points are from 2019-20, so she'll only have the 2021 Worlds points at 70% (517 becomes ~362), and she'll move down a lot. She won't be top 24.

As RoseRed points out, she's definitely going to drop out of the Top 24 once the WS get updated for the end of season. Also, don't forget that the women competing at Jr Worlds who don't yet have any ISU Championship points are going to get a bump and some are quite likely to move into the Top 24.

Bradie would be eligible for a host pick as well as being added to the SB list using her 2021 score from WTT (Rika Kihira is in a similar situation for Japan, and Zagorski/Guerreiro would be too if Russia wasn't banned), which would make her eligible for selection by the other feds for a 2nd spot. I would guess that both of them would receive invitations for a 2nd event as the GP feds are usually pretty supportive of each other and getting skaters who missed a season due to injury back on the GP circuit.

I overwrote all of my re-calculations with the current listings :wall: .

I don't remember if they sum and then factor, or round vs. truncate, and it's only on the Top 50 now, but in my actual re-calculations, give or take rounding discrepancies, Tennell tumbles to 49, but Audrey Shin is 24:

Audrey isn't going to remain 24, though. Thorngren is only 198 points behind her and should, knock on wood, earn more than enough at Jr Worlds to leapfrog ahead of her.

What I'm really interested in seeing is what the ISU/GP hosts do with regard to the Russian/Belarusian skaters on the WS and SB Top 24 lists. This isn't a situation where they have retired and they're left on the list until they drop off due to losing points a la Zagitova. Frankly, I think the ISU should produce a Russian/Belarusian-free WS & SB Top 24 lists for the guranteed 1 GP assignments, same with the SB Top 75 for initial selection eligibility.

It would open up six spots in the Top 24. After Jr. Worlds Matsuike will likely go up within Top 24, (ETR, as Matsuike is a sub) and both Thorngren and Watanabe should be in the Top 24 when it all shakes out: anything on the podium would put Thorngren in the mid-late teens. Her SB (37) to date is 193.X, while Shin's is 203.X (SB 29). (Neither matched her international SB at 2022 US Nats.) Matsuike's is close to Shin's (SB 31), both earned at 4C's. Watanabe isn't on the list yet; she earned 190.84 at Coupe de Printemps. Hopefully Shin's SB will get her a spot.

While generally hosts in the pre-cv times would select up to SB 30, skaters who were only WS 25-30 had a harder time, if they weren't host picks. And replacements are done through the SB list, at least in theory.

I think if Lindsay aims to go clean in Tallinn rather than attempting one of her likely to be downgraded 3As, she could increase her SB, but I'm not positive. Either way, as long as she and Isabeau both wind up on the podium, they'll probably guarantee themselves 2 assignments straight out of the gate because they'll be in the Top 24 of either the WS or SB lists (same for Watanabe). Only 3.5 more weeks until we see how it all shakes out (Egna Spring Trophy, Triglav Trophy and Jr Worlds are the last three internationals of the season).

Sounds like Bradie has begun coaching at the Crystal Ice House located in the Chicago suburbs.
I wonder about this. My guess is she is rehabbing closer to home. Or just there for a bit before ramping up for the season. I doubt she would leave Colorado coaching as she seemed happy and I can’t imagine her ending her career on that non-season. Time will tell I guess.

I know the US champion usually gets Skate America the next season but Alysa has done more then enough to get invited next season if she continues to compoete.

She has done more than enough but not sure if USFSA would do that to Mariah. This is a complicated situation.

USFS might not have a lot of control. Alysa is seeded in the 1-3 group and gets to choose after Kaori & Loena. Mariah is seeded in the 4-6 group and chooses after the 1-3 get their picks. I suppose it is possible that Kaori or Loena could choose SkAm before Alysa gets a chance, but I'd be surprised. For sure Kaori will choose NHK, and I expect Loena's 1st choice will be IdF. It could hinge on what their 2nd choices are. But, I suspect they'll avoid SkAm. What the USFS and Mariah do when it comes to her choice is the question - I think they'll encourage her to pick SCI and one of the European GPs, opposite Alysa, because they're going to want to feature someone like Isabeau or Lindsay, plus they'll want to leave the 3rd spot open to a less known senior who only has 1 or 0 assignments after the initial lists come out.

Talking about Skate America, does anyone have a clue where it's headed for next Fall?

Been hearing Vegas… again.
Please no. Flights there from where I am are outrageously expensive. With Nats on the west coast, SA should be east or midwest.

Re GP selection, I believe the host countries choose their own skaters first before any seeding/skater preferences. USFS will likely talk to its skaters and coaches so everyone is on the same page. If USFS wants both Alysa and Mariah at SA, they'll be there. If not, one will end up elsewhere and not be surprised.

No one wants to host this. It’s just not financially a great deal. Orleans is probably a financially feasible solution for USFS

I missed it, but apparently Alysa and Young You just gave each other haircuts on Instagram Live. Here's a little clip, no pun intended.

Who else is having flashbacks to "that one time in middle/high school, I trimmed my own bangs/hair, and that was a mistake because I'm not a trained hairstylist"?

I am reminding myself that it's the offseason and there's plenty of time for them to grow out whatever damage they do and get themselves to a salon for a proper haircut in six months. And, at least they're having fun.

I would say, if you look through history, it's often the highest finisher at worlds, not the US Champion, who is given priority for SA. Probably exactly because of seeding.

And yet, all we need do is look back at last season when Bradie got the SA assignment and Karen didn't, to know that's not always the case.

I'm more interested in which women continue next season and who gets the #2 & 3 slots than which of Alysa, Mariah and Karen (who is also seeded, in the 7-12 group) gets SkAm, etc. I'm also more interested in the men because I think that's a far more intriguing decision (assuming Vincent focuses on college full time next fall) between Camden and Ilia.

Sometimes Skate America has the top two Americans competing because it really helps to excite the audience to buy tickets, and they can set up a rivalry to drum up interest. Sometimes they don't - I like to think it's due to it being smarter to try to get multiple entries into the GPF but I'm not sure if USFS thinks that strategically sometimes. I do think the more confidence the USFS has in their skaters in making the GPF, the more likely they'll pair them up at Skate America.

The most loaded Skate America had to be the 1995-96 one where the top four from Worlds plus Irina Slutskaya all competed. It was the first year of the "GPF" where it was called the Challenger Series Final. Now that the GPF has evolved to what it is now, and the rules are what they are, there's no way the top 4 from Worlds would ever be in one GP event ever again.

Just a note about Bradie and the GP. If she has recovered from her injury, I believe she could do the GP as a returning skater.
