The Voice Spring 2016

Xtina waited too long to steal. Trey is fodder for the knockouts.
Too bad, there were better contestants before Trey that were worthy of stealing like Mike or even Jonathan or Joe (like his voice, too bad he struggled).

Hmmm. I wonder why they didn't show Owen's battle round. I thought he had the best blind audition, not spectacular, but best of the rest.

Owen's audition was one of my favorite's too. Maybe they had a technical problem or the other guy was really bad. They montage those kinds of battles.

I remember they showed a battle in its entirety where both contestants were bad. Adam's comments were something like the performance was a mess, but he has to choose the better of the bad.

I think I've seen too many seasons of AI (the early years), I just  when they try to sing Motown. It just doesn't work usually.

Surprised Malik wasn't stolen.

New coaches are Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys. With Adam and Blake.

Miley is not my favorite in terms of style, but I thought she did a fair job as an advisor tonight. It will be interesting to see how that translates to being an actual judge.

Meh to Pharrell choosing Emily over Shalyah (I'm glad she was stolen), but I have been a fan of hers at all this season. I also hate the song she sang.

Don't get Adam and Pharrell stealing Lacy. She was pitchy in the beginning. Malik should've been stolen. Even Daniel was better than Lacy. Why is Pharrell keeping Emily? Just b/c she is a 4-chair turn vs. a 1 chair turn (Shalyah). Or is he playing a nice guy b/c he knows that Adam will steal Shalyah? Xtina's pairing of Alisan and Daniel was uneven. It's clear that Xtina wants to keep Alisan and doesn't want to pair her with anyone with powerhouse vocals for fear that he/she will upset Alisan's performance. Alisan is Xtina's hope of winning the show.

There have been some good performances tonight. I'm sad that we've come to the yelling portion of the show with the Alicia Keys cover. :scream:

Again Xtina paired two uneven singers together so that her favorites won't get upstaged. She should've paired Alisan and Tamar together to make it more exciting. But, I understand her strategy, which I would do if I were her. But, I thought the producers want to make the battles/knockouts more exciting by pairing evenly matched singers together. Like Adam paired Ryan and Owen, both 4 chair turns, which caused him to lose one of his stronger singers, and let another coach steal.

I would've chosen Nick over Moushumi. I don't think that song suited Moushumi well.

Nick didn't give his best performance, but I agree, I thought Moushumi was sort of blah.

I thought Nick did too much of his song in falsetto but IMO he won the knockout. I hated Pharrell's reasoning on who he kept. He should have kept the one who did the best, not the one who needed him more. I agree that Moushumi was blah. I think she will be eliminated on the first live show.

Tamar's screaming did nothing for me. Maya had lots of problems but I preferred her voice overall.

I adore Adam Wakefield. I also like Payton a lot & wish at least one judge hadn't squandered his steal (I'm looking at you Pharrell).

And what about Owen ?

He won his battle...sang a Billy Joel song. He did a rather understated emotionsl performance....I thought it was a breath of fresh air after some of the other's vocal gymnastics. I was happy Adam kept him .... his opponent (Ryan, the teacher), got stolen after.

The only thing than worse than You're Still the One is Mary Sarah's oppenent's version of You're Still the One. :scream:

I thought Mary Sarah clearly won, but I don't understand what makes her appealing. I find her meh.

Xtina and Adam have the strongest team. Pharrell with the weakest. But Blake will somehow have at least one member of his team in the finale, probably Mary Sarah. How did Pharrell end up with an all female team???

Wow, the penultimate "battle" (Adam's team) must have been total dreck.

It was that. Actually, although I was distracted last night by other stuff and had it on in the background, nothing wowed me in terms of the singing I heard. The last singer, Kata (?) fcuked up one of my favorite Reba songs but good.

I can't stand Kata. She's so OTT that "top" is in her rearview mirror. Joe messed up too but at least he's had 2 good performances (audition & battle) and she's had none. There were few really good performances overall last night. Most of them were very lopsided.

Brian vs Nate - I much prefer Nate's soulful voice but he made a poor song choice & then didn't do much with it. Brian had the better performance by default. I can't really warm up to Brian. He seems like an eager puppy.

Brittany vs Mary Sarah - This was a similar knockout imo. Brittany's performance seemed like she found out she was going against Mary so she just gave up. It was very lackluster but I didn't really like Mary Sarah's either. I love her voice & it's ok she has that throwback style but she needs to sing more modern songs with that style.

Bryan vs Trey - I love One Republic but Trey is no Ryan Tedder. However if you're going to sing one of their songs you should at least have a pulse. This really dragged. OTOH Bryan made me like a Justin Beiber song.

Abby vs Caity - Abby's performance seemed like one of desperation. She was ahead of the music most of the song - it felt like a race. It didn't help that her outfit was super unflattering. In contrast Caity sounded soulful & beautiful.

Laith vs Jessica - Another really lopsided knockout. I was confused when Jessica got any chair turns during the auditions so it wasn't a surprise that Laith won but I much preferred both his audition & his battle performances.

Montaged - Caroline vs Katherine (poor Katherine was montaged in all 3 of her performances) - Caroline definitely has the voice but I really think she should have waited a few years to audition. The little bit of Human we heard was good but a 16 yr old can't really give it the angst it needed.

Kata vs Joe - Joe stolen by Blake.

I'm not sure any of last night's winners will survive the 1st live show because IIRC they cut 3 singers from each team at the 1st elimination. Mary Sarah & Bryan may be the exceptions. If Laith let them do a make-over he could have a chance but I don't see him getting the votes looking like a backwoodsman.

Has there been contestants who made it to knockouts but never had their performances shown in their entirety? I don't want to accuse Voice for being racist, but it seems that a lot of the Asian females that don't make it to live shows end up being montaged.

Yes, but I'm bad at remembering names of people who disappear. I can see it happening with a fodder pick who "beats" an implosion in the battles or with a coach who keeps a fodder pick to insure their top ones make it to the live shows.

I'm not sure it's racial. Cassadee Pope's audition & battle were montaged IIRC. And very often people who really impressed in the auditions have their battles montaged regardless of race. I've very often wondered what formula they use to montage because there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason.
