Royalty Thread #16: the best of times, the worst of times

The thing about cancer is it doesn’t matter if you have access to the best medical care in the world if the circumstances aren’t right. This hits very close to home for me right now, my husband has been diagnosed with stage IV cancer at age 49, with no warning signs and no illness, just bang after a few weeks of symptoms. We have access to excellent medical care and are secure financially and he is beginning treatment but we have been told that while they may be able to buy him some time, it is terminal. We have an eleven year old. You can’t imagine how the bottom drops out of your world. Even for the most privileged. Sure, Kate has luxuries most of us could never dream of — lots of help, no worries that she will lose her house or her job, time to recover in peace. I’m willing to bet a lot of money she and her family have still been through hell in the last year.

Sending my best wishes for your husband, you and your family. I can relate with my ongoing battle with cancer.

Their jobs are to be decorative and ceremonial.

Also to be the center of attention and gossip so that the folks actually running the country (Parliament et al) can get on with their jobs while public focus is directed elsewhere.

@MLIS I’m so sorry. A close friend of mine lost her 51-year old husband to glioblastoma, also with no warning signs and a young teenager. It’s a hard journey and my thoughts are with you.

She's recovering from cancer, and posters here are more concerned with her shoes than her mental and physical health.

I don't think anyone is minimizing the cancer diagnosis. Commenting on clothes and shoes is a hobby just as commenting on skating costumes.

It's been 20 + years since my back and my feet have given me the green light to wear fashionable shoes.

When DH and I are sitting at a restaurant or bar outside I will do people and shoe watching. He just is just amused. Thursday we went walking in the mall. Silly as it seems, I got sad passing the shoe store @PrincessLeppard I would spend hours in looking at shoes. Most of them were out of my price range.

So my comment was I could never wear those shoes. Not ignoring her cancer diagnosis.
