This hits very close to home for me right now, my husband has been diagnosed with stage IV cancer at age 49, with no warning signs and no illness, just bang after a few weeks of symptoms. We have access to excellent medical care and are secure financially and he is beginning treatment but we have been told that while they may be able to buy him some time, it is terminal. We have an eleven year old. You can’t imagine how the bottom drops out of your world. Even for the most privileged. Sure, Kate has luxuries most of us could never dream of — lots of help, no worries that she will lose her house or her job, time to recover in peace. I’m willing to bet a lot of money she and her family have still been through hell in the last year.

Sending my best wishes for your husband, you and your family. I can relate with my ongoing battle with cancer.
 
@MLIS I’m so sorry. A close friend of mine lost her 51-year old husband to glioblastoma, also with no warning signs and a young teenager. It’s a hard journey and my thoughts are with you.

I don't think anyone is minimizing the cancer diagnosis. :rolleyes: Commenting on clothes and shoes is a hobby just as commenting on skating costumes.

It's been 20 + years since my back and my feet have given me the green light to wear fashionable shoes.

When DH and I are sitting at a restaurant or bar outside I will do people and shoe watching. He just is just amused. Thursday we went walking in the mall. Silly as it seems, I got sad passing the shoe store @PrincessLeppard I would spend hours in looking at shoes. Most of them were out of my price range.

So my comment was I could never wear those shoes. Not ignoring her cancer diagnosis.

Have you tried wedges? I have bad feet & I do fine in wedges & they give me some height.
 
She made an appearance at a cancer support center at a hospital yesterday, and she talked a bit about her own journey and what a roller coaster it can be. She especially talked about how after you're done treatment everyone expects you to return to "normal" immediately, but it takes a long time. Seemed to be a pointed response to the criticism she received for not appearing at Ascot a couple of weeks ago (which, honestly, I don't blame her for that -- it was super hot, it's a long day standing around outdoors in heels, hose, and a giant hat, she's allergic to horses ... I'd have backed out, too!).

I've seen that reported for years. I did a google search just now and she reportedly told someone at a polo match years ago that she was allergic to horses, but was trying to increase her exposure to them in order to lessen the allergy. She's been photographed sneezing at various events, including Trooping the Colour recently. I mean, at Ascot she wouldn't be anywhere near the horses if she didn't want to be, but I can see how after Trooping the Colour and the Order of the Garter ceremony in the same weekend, she decided she wasn't up for Ascot.
 
Isn't a lot of the royal family horse-mad, including her own daughter? Must be tough on her!

Oh I’m sure Elizabeth appreciated Kate. But she loved horses so much, being allergic to them must have seemed a fate worse than death.

She is also no longer wearing hosiery in the summer. Another way the royal dress code seems to have been relaxed a LOT since QE passed away.

I feel like you try to read WAY too much into anything about the British Royal Family and come up with things that simply aren't there. Catherine has NEVER worn her hair short in the nearly 25 years since she popped up on the radar as one of William's social circle at St Andrews. Yes, there are times when it's been somewhat shorter than it currently is, but the last time she had it shorter than the bottom of her shoulder blades was before she hit her teens.

I don't think so. She may be too lazy to cut it. I know, I know, she has hair stylists, but once you cut long hair, depending on the cut, it needs to be cut regularly. To me, she looks tired. I wish she could switch out the shoe twigs to something more comfortable and still stylish. Those will not help her in the future.

Agree, she's always had great hair. For those reading some messaging into it, the way I see it is she's proud of her hair, she knows it's one of her best assets and she goes with it. Do I recall correctly that prior to the first photo call outside the hospital with her first child, her stylist came in to help her get ready? At the time that said to me not that she was vain, but that she knew the whole world was watching and wanted to look her best, for herself, and for her little family knowing those pictures would live forever.

So many of us have self esteem issues when it comes to our appearance, and with what she's been through - dealing with cancer on top of already being one of the most photographed people in the world - if she's proud of her beautiful hair, then good for her.

Princess Catherine's hair looks wonderful as she stands with Prince William holding a new born Prince George outside the hospital. One thing I was so impressed about was the little blue dress she chose to wear did not hide the fact that her belly was still prominent. It is unfair and not realistic to perpetuate the myth that the female body just springs back immediately after giving birth.
