Watching this competition makes me think the technical level of pairs is quite similar than now 10 years later. Compared to singles where the level has shot up like crazy.

Probably because the pairs rules devalued the quad twists and throws in relation to quality triples while in singles, the quad is worth the risk.

While there hasn't been anything quite as dramatic as the quad revolution, pairs tech has had some notable changes -- you still saw teams placing in the top ten with double twists circa 2010, and lifts were less complicated.

This was such a good SP for M/T!
But their real masterpiece was their Pink Floys SP the season before for me!

The skate order groups during this period - why they went with 6 groups for 20 pairs I'll never understand - two groups between every ice resurfacing I guess.

Mukhortova/Trankov

Proof that Trankov could not find a good competition outfit for the Olympics

MESS fall from Trankov on the SBS jumps
nice throw
they just float across the ice
spins way out of sync

Taylor: “What you doing with a girl like that?”

He won’t be with her for long. Despite how much she’s trying to cheer him up after his screwup.

Do not cry, Maxim. Your hair is a mess, your program the most lyrical snot and you just falled out the OGM. But Sochi will come
