Amidst all the hubbub, Alysa Liu is the highest scoring non-Russian on the international scene this season -

#7 (behind 6 Russian women) - 219.24 @ Lombardia, just ahead of Louena, Young You and Kaori.

Interestingly enough, Isabeau Levito is #18 - 208.31, ahead of all the other US Sr. ladies

Yeah but wasn’t Loena just like two tenths behind or something?

Yes, my dear :)

And I luurrvee me some Louena. IMO, she is the mature sexy 'woman' of this field with lots to offer in her performances, and I rank her as one of the most watchable women right now, but she has a lower tech ceiling than Alysa, IF Alysa hits those 3As in the future, and you can tell Alysa is hungry and she thankfully lacks that typical American timidity when it comes to competing

Bear in mind, Levito's score is from a junior competition so it has less elements.
Can Isabeau compete as a Sr. at the Olympics, if everything falls into place?

ETA - I think we have to see what Mariah Bell looks like. I would like to see her regain that form from that last pre-YKW season, where she was scoring around 212.

No. Not age-eligible for Sr. internationally until 2022-23. She will be 15 on March 3, 2022.

ETA: Levito and Lindsay Thorngren, who will be 17 on December 5, have been competing regularly since the spring (for JGP) so they are farther along in their competitive season prep. than many of the U.S. senior women who have GPs.

Where has Mariah been this season? Seems like in an Olympic season you want to be seen competing even more not disappear from sight. Last i've seen of Mariah was Cranberry which almost 3 months ago.

She debuted a new SP at the Henderson NV nationals qualifying competition the week before SkAm. Only did a 3-2, but that was a good 5 weeks before her GP debut at IdF, so hopefully it will be there by then. We'll see her at IdF and RC and she hinted recently that she has the option of competing in December (likely Golden Spin).

Looked at Mariah's travel from California, then Grenoble and finally to Sochi; no easy path/connections. If she has another competition in Europe, I guess she would stay there. I tend to doubt that Raf would accompany her for all competitions. Anyone else have any thoughts? Then it's back to California, followed by a flight to Nashville right after New Year's!

Does Raf have anyone working with him, is Adam there, could someone substitute for Raf?

I don't think Mariah would go alone to any of those comps?

Why wouldn't Raf travel with her?
I don't see any reason Raf won't travel with her to both IdF and Rostelecom, especially since Michal Brezina is also assigned to RC. However, someone else is certainly going to have to travel with her if she gets the Golden Spin assignment since that's the same weekend as the GPF.

We saw Mariah at one of the USFS qualifier events 2-3 weeks ago, testing her SP. She won the SP before withdrawing.

Alysa's done a great job this season, she's my absolute fave of the American women this quad. That being said, I'm a bit concerned that Alysa will be marked as a skater who UR's her jumps - like Mirai before her. Hopefully she can get her jumps fully around at NHK - and throughout her career! And land her Quads and triple Axels! She's in good hands imo with her current coaching team. I know it's a work in progress. 🙂

Sometimes I wonder if Alysa is underrotated and only she gets charged....

As was mentioned earlier, Mariah's original Challenger Series competition was Asian Open Trophy in Beijing last month but no one assigned from Team USA ended up being able to travel there and so she supposedly has the option of competing at the final Challenger, Golden Spin in Croatia, December 8-11.

I've heard that Adam will travel with Mariah to IdF in Grenoble.

Jeremy Abbott is with Alysa at NHK Trophy this week (according to his Instagram story).

Love hearing that Adam and Jeremy are still highly connected with skating years after they finished competing themselves.

Since Alysa is having problems landing the triple axel i hope at Nationals she just tries to skate clean and takes it out. A clean Lui will make the podium and probably win so why jeopardize a chance to make the Olympic team by trying the triple axel? Just wok on the jumps you can land and rotate them.

Trying the triple Axel at US Nationals is probably a safe bet, because she'll be on the podium baring a very disastrous skate - getting it out again at Nationals will be an important bench mark as to whether she does it at the Olympics.

Liu for absolute sure will make the Olympic Team unless she is injured. She NEEDS to be trying the 3axel every time out. We should be encouraging her.

I was glad to see Amber go for it. She didn't hit it, but it was a good try. That's what I like to see.

Since neither she nor Alysa will make the Grand Prix Final, they have nothing to lose by pushing the envelope.

I think Amber should try 1 3ax in sp and 2 in free skate because when she lands its awesome and I think she has competition nerves with it bad. And she has nothing to lose because Usfs sees her as a headcase even when shes not headcasing so she needs something to shake up opinions and clean triples through lutz wont do it. Alysa, depends if she is even landing clean ones in practice, hard to say. It may never really come back for her in the new body, but it could! But I love her guts for trying.
