What are we discussing here!?!?!? I'm so lost....

Can someone tell me who Nadine Wang is and this 'big Paradis' guy? Unfamiliar with both

Ha ha, I already linked to a Youtube video of Nadine Wang with her former partner (post #1,152) if you're paying attention at all. ;)

As I mentioned, Wang/Howe and Suto/Boudreau-Audet all trained with Gauthier/Marcotte. So since they've trained under the same coaches and split with their former partners, maybe this pairing will be promising for Francis & Nadine. Time will tell. Certainly, they are unlikely to have the language/culture challenges that Francis experienced with his former Japanese partner, since Nadine is American (or apparently Chinese-American; I can't find any personal bio information on Nadine).

What are the details on Howe in terms of age, height and is he in skating atm?

http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00103380.htm

Spencer Howe was born in Burbank, California in November 1996; ht = 183 cm. He's mixed Japanese-American. He used to compete for Japan with Ami Koga. I already linked a video of one of his performances with Nadine Wang. What's your next question? :p

Yes but Ruest can’t land a SBS jump (or rarely) and the throws are hit and miss. Ruest and Wolfe transitioned into pairs too late IMO.

I don't think 'transitioning into pairs too late' is exactly Ruest/Wolfe's problem. They looked so promising when they first paired, but they had a great deal of trouble trying to get a 3-twist. Now they have one, but it's sketchy. It just seems as if they've lost a great deal of confidence. Something is just missing.

I think R/W are a couple off-ice, but sometimes maybe that distracts from focus for some pairs partners. James/Cipres have discussed how they made the decision to stop being partners off-ice about five years ago, so they could concentrate on putting all their energies into their on-ice partnership. It seems to have worked for them, and they are still very good friends. It's different for everyone, since some pairs partners remain off-ice partners and end up marrying.

I don't know what the reason is, but I thought R/W showed much more promise when they started out, then they didn't improve much at all and even became less consistent (I think). I even thought they would challenge MT/M for a little while, but obviously not! hehe

Perhaps they need more focused attention from a coaching team, and perhaps some help navigating a personal relationship while being in the early stages of a competitive athletic partnership. It's probably not an easy thing to manage altogether. As we know, Gauthier/Marcotte have a ton of teams, and R/W may need more dedicated attention. The thing is recognizing and accepting that something isn't working, and actually having the courage to make changes. But that's not easy, because making the right changes can be the ultimate stumbling block or the fortuitous magic key. Just ask the Knierims and James/Cipres. :D

I heard that big guy David-Alexandre Paradis have a new partner!

Can someone tell me who ... is ... this 'big Paradis' guy? Unfamiliar ...

Eh, I guess there's nothing like a little Internet googling/ research.

So just a thought regarding lack of height difference. I have always marvelled at how successfully Sui & Han cope with it, especially since he just does not look very strong at all yet seems to do the lifts, twists, throws quite effortlessly. I am wondering if the lack of height when both partners are so tiny is less significant than when both partners are taller. Not sure why but it makes sense to me - perhaps centre of gravity without those long limbs whipping everywhere or something?

Even though there's not much height difference between Sui/Han, I think they both benefit from being small skaters and training under the well-oiled Chinese pairs system. If S/H were both taller with not much height difference, it might be more difficult for them with lifts. Although they are excellent with a lot of wow tricks and exponentially improved aesthetics, I don't think their lifts are particlarly eye-catching due to the short length of Han's arms. But they make it work.

Conversely being tall with similar height did not hurt Pang/Tong. However, Pang probably weighed no more than a feather, so there's that. ;)

... I wonder whether Spencer Howe is still in skating, or looking for a partner?

Meagan Duhamel’s first Instagram story has a video of a team doing a death spiral. Can anyone tell if that’s Brasseur? The boy has short dark hair and slightly darker complexion.

Are Justine Brasseur & Spencer Howe still an off-ice couple? Maybe that's him in Duhamel's clip--I can't tell one way or the other.

Hmmm, Instagram answers questions sometimes. Anyway, the plot thickens. :watch:

I'm all in with these apparently percolating but unannounced possible new Canadian pairs partnerings:

Charlie Bilodeau rumored with Lubov who is still under contract with Cirque du Soleil

Francis Boudreau-Audet apparently newly paired with Nadine Wong of the U.S. after splitting with Sumire Suto (JPN)

David Alexandre Paradis (formerly with Kassandra Trepanier) And he's also skated in Junior pairs with Ai Setoyama of the US? Does he have a new partner with whom he plans to represent Canada?

Justine Brasseur (minijuju10) has split with Mark Bardei, and her boyfriend Spencer Howe of the US is apparently free, since his former pairs partner, Nadine Wong, is reportedly now skating with Francis Boudreau-Audet. From Brasseur's posted Instagram pics (see above), Spencer seems to have enough height to be a good pairs partner for her. But are they actually pairing on the ice, or were they just practicing together on Duhamel's Instagram for the fun of it???

Stay tuned...

I think Trennt and Evelyn have a nice, upbeat vibe and they obviously get along well together. I've enjoyed watching their progress. They seem to have a very determined approach, and they've been able to have some good showings this season, despite some inconsistency. Their task will be to continue to improve, and to find out what makes then unique in terms of style and approach. All teams today have to find a way to stand out from the pack and to discover what makes them unique as a team, and how best to express that on the ice.

That’s the spirit! Fellow Evelyn/Trennt fans unite!

Absolutely. But they won't make it in the fashion modelling industry (and probably won't aspire to).

True.

Sui/Han manage because they have very good technique and because she rotates very quickly in the air. Also their height difference is actually about equal to that of James/Cipres - I think S/H just look closer in size because they are both shorter.

You wouldn’t believe this, but Cong is actually ripped as heck and very strong.

What you saw on Meagan's Instagram was a video from a Novice Pair team. She was giving a seminar. From what it looks like, it was Clémence Vallière and Samir Andjorin.

If you look at David-Alexandre's Instagram, he has some picture with Isabella Gamez. I think she could be his new partner.

For the discussion about the height difference and the strenght of the guy, I think so much more count than these two factors. The experience together, the technique, the rythmn etc. Everything can make a difference. I don't think it's only about inches and power. I might be wrong, I'm not an expert, but if you look at Cain and Leduc twist, well they improved so much.

How do you know that? Are you sure or just assuming?

It has happened.

I'm just hoping that since there has been no official announcement that I know of I'm going to hold out hope of reconciliation. I have no real reason to believe that will happen; simply the alternate universe that exists purely in my own mind (and some would say half of my posts)

Ok but how would you know then if there hasn't been any announcement?

There are a number of very well connected posters on this board. The longer you are here, the easier it gets to sort out those full of hot air and those who are actually connected. @Rock2 usually knows what they are talking about.

Well in my opinion, those are just rumors and those rumors are about some real people. I think we have to remember that sometimes and remember that those kids are probably going to get ask many questions for maybe no reason just because of rumours... I'll wait for an official announcement before I'll believe that it's true.

I can’t comment on this break up, but as another poster pointed out, a number of us are in and out of rinks every day. People aren’t talking about rumours, they are talking about what they know to be true.

That said, you don’t have to believe it.

Those listings I suppose can be misleading. Timothy LeDuc is listed at 6'1" and standing next to him, Ashley does look a bit taller than 5'6" -- but maybe not by much.

Ashley herself has said that she is 5’ 6” - I tweeted sometime last season, possibly during 4CC (into the air, a random wondering) what height she was. I didn’t tag her into it so was quite surprised when she tweeted back that as a response!

I would believe it. He would have to be.
I don’t think anybody would have trouble believing that. You’d have to think he was, given that he’s a pairs man, and an excellent one.

Of course! I just meant that he looks small on the ice, but he is actually very muscular.

Wow that’s cool! I guess she is 5’6” after all 😀

Does anyone know why they split given their potential?. I’m not in the figure skating world but 5th place finish was low from what I saw. I hope it wasn’t politics.

I don't think so at the time (haven't rewatched). There were a lot of rough parts that they needed to work on. They could have beaten Matte/Ferland, but it was only a point between them, so that could go either way. They had by far the most potential, but I don't remember feeling that the scores were really unfair.

No, they're going to Pierrefonds, and will be coaching singles and pairs there starting in April.

Source: An article in my local newspaper from a few days ago (Annabelle is originally from my hometown)
Wow...didn't know there are pairs in Pierrefonds.

I thought they were underscored in the short too. They were 3rd in the long, but could not move up in the standings due to their low score in the short. So no national team and no funding I guess. Could have been a factor in the split (just speculation on my part).
