UPDATED: OMFG . . . Adam Rippon, Tonya Harding and Mirai Nagasu are on the DWTS' all-athlete cast

Yes! I mean I'm kind of....stunned :p that hardcore skating fans still care so much about it. I kind of thought FSU might be a little "above" tonya/nancy drama. :)

It's the off-season. :p

And Irina Slutskaya hasn't eaten a hamburger in years! At least not one that we know about! :scream:

Masterchef and Top Chef are long-term commitments. I think Guy's Grocery Games or Chopped should do an all-skater show. (Weir excluded because he's already been on Chopped)

I don't think it would be very good, given that skaters probably prefer low-fat dishes.

When Johnny was on Chopped, he made burgers and Guy pointed out something in the process spread the fat in the meat around (thorough mixing IIRC). Johnny said he preferred low fat, being a figure skater who had to watch his weight, and Guy's answer was "well, America doesn't".

The challenge with low fat is that when you take out the fat, you take out the flavor. I get it that there are healthy fats versus unhealthy ones, yadada.. . .but Food Network would go out of business if it had to take a low/no-fat approach to food.

A group of skaters broiling fish and asparagus with a bit of lemon and dill would not make for a very interesting Food Network show. :yikes::scream:

So, by that logic, if a coach only molests children who aren’t their students, is convicted and receives only probation, then USFS should pay no mind? (Unless of course they forgot to directly report within XX number of days.)

That would have to do with the safety of kids -- different issue. Though of course, comparing what happened in Vick's sport to skating doesn't always work, since two different sports with two different orgs running things. Personally, I wouldn't hire Vick to mow my lawn, because he disgusts me and he's a terrible human being.

BUT -- there is more argument for a sports ban in the case of Tonya, since she directly cheated.

Only in the sense that e.g. he wasn't setting dogs on his football opponents to injure them. But every team that's employed him since he was charged/convicted has gotten a lot of criticism and other actions (e.g. boycotts, petitions) for doing so. Also it's highly unlikely his dogfighting operation would have been so successful, or been able to be covered up for so long, if he had been Joe No-name rather than a rich NFL player.

I mean, I don't follow football. I honestly couldn't remember which sort of sportsball he played, so I wasn't aware of the boycotts.

I'm not defending him AT ALL -- just explaining why Tonya's actions seem to require a ban more so than Vick's. Seems like whoever runs football didn't ban him, but teams may or may not hire him, which is probably consistent with how they handle crimes that don't directly involve the sport. Whereas something like cheating would be a ban or suspension from the sport as a whole.

Tonya wasn't the one that cheated. She was punished for something her ex-husband and his friends did behind her back. Tonya didn't need to cheat- she was the better skater. Stripping the 94 title from her was wrong because it gives the erroneous impression that Nancy would have won which is not the case if only the skating is being judged. I'm not sure Nancy would of legitimately beat Michelle or Nicole. A year's suspension (but being allowed to keep the title and go to 94 worlds) would of been punishment enough for not turning in the ex-hubby right away.

No, she was punished for planning an attack on her rival, an attack that originally talked about killing Nancy. But you keep on with the "sweet innocent Tonya could do no wrong and evil Nancy deserved it" schtick. It's not helping your case to continue the attacks on Nancy. In fact, it rather reinforces my view that Tonya knew and helped plan.

Tonya skated too well at 94 nationals to have known anything in advance. I consider Michelle at 13 to be a better skater than Nancy was at 24. Tonya did not plan the attack. Jeff was the mastermind. I don't think the "killing Nancy" part was serious-and assume that part came from that bodyguard Shawn (who also claimed to be a secret agent which we know isn't true). Nancy didn't deserve to be whacked, but she should never have been put on the pedestal the media put her on either. I wish someone would put Tonya's 93 nhk programs on youtube. My point is Tonya was a much better skater than the media ever gave her credit for , and Nancy was not as good as the media made her out to be.

Christine Brennan is one of the worst sports reporters ever and extremely biased. Zagitova deserved the Olympic win, but Brennan thought it should of went to Medeva. Lipinski also clearly outskated Michelle in 98 Olympics, although at this point I think Kwan might have better choice as a commentator. I think Weir is dragging Tara down though, and her commentary would be better with someone else other than Weir. Hughes also deserved to win over Kwan in 2002, although Sarah was very disappointing as a pro. Tonya didn't kill pro skating. What killed pro skating was skaters like Hughes, Cohen, Lulu, and Bobek forgetting how to do triple jumps and in a few cases even 2axels as soon as they turned pro.

I think we don't know exactly what Harding's involvement was before the attack.

People who want her to be guilty say that she was a mastermind in the planning and involved in discussions of killing Kerrigan. People who want her to be innocent say she knew nothing until after the fact and that it was all Gilooly's or Eckhardt's fault.

The truth could be either of those extremes, or anywhere in between. We don't know for a fact, so it is disingenuous to say "She did this" or "She didn't do that" as a factual statement.

Quite likely by this point Harding herself doesn't remember exactly what she did or knew when.

This reminds me of something very serious, though. I owe all of you an apology.

On page 11 of the thread, I wrote, "I'm hoping Tonya wins DWTS and then winds up on . . . Top Chef Latino."

There isn't actually a Top Chef Latino. It's Masterchef Latino. I apologize for any tragic implications my error may have caused.

Don't whack me, bros (and sisses, and sibs).

I am really disappointed about this. Also, I would have to boycott if Tonya was on one of these shows! She would probably melt some shredded cheese on a tortilla and sprinkle some Ortega seasoning and call that Mexican.

I was watching the LA Kings game last night, and they showed Margot Robbie in the stands, so now I will also be boycotting the Stanley Cup playoffs!!!

Hi, Max E.

Yum, Ortego makes some of the best seasoning's in the market place, they are good to add when you want a little "kick" in your extra mild Pace picantay sauce. So good in the crock pot.

My wife and I agree with you to boy-cot anything connected with Tonya. We have felt that way ever since 1996. We have expressed that Tonya is evil master-mind criminal. Heartless woman! We did not watch when she did boxing, and we did not watch any of her made-for-tv-movies. Our opinion has always been exactly the same and I will say that 450 more times if I need to!

I guess I am boycotting the Stanley Cup playoffs because I'm not watching them either. Although that would mean I boycott them every year because they are hockey and I never watch hockey because it is boring. Does that count as a boycott?

I assume most people here boycott hockey because it is violent and every game someone is getting whacked with a hockey stick! You want to be consistent with your opinions!

Tonya will lose badly. How do I know? Look at her pic with her dance pro - she doesn't turn out her right leg and match his body line - even for a picture! Bad lines, no unison = voted off very early.

I think she'll stay a while. If the judges don't mention poor body lines or any other dancing "issues", they didn't happen. ;) Personality and attitude count more than the dancing at this point.

Tonya’s on Instagram @therealtonyaharding. Her partner Sasha’s following her, so you can tell it from the fake accounts.
3196 followers as of right now. ETA: Of the 10 DWTS athletes, Adam currently has the most Instagram followers at 782K.

Of the 10, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has the most Twitter followers at 2.25 million. Happy Birthday today to both him and Mirai! :)

@skateboy You mentioned this costume. I also felt it was a great costume, but then I was in a show where I felt the costume was great on video and from the audience, but was horrible and cheap when you saw it up close. Great costumes are beautiful and gorgeous both up close and from far away.

The NHK prior to 1991 Worlds had wonderful camera work. Here is that costume, and when you look at the detailing, etc, you see it is kind of a mish-mash with no real design motif - kind of piecing together scraps and then layering sequins. Up close - not as good. But I still like it.

This was one of Tonya's finest performances. The judges here had the nerve to mark her at 5.7s for technical and 5.6s for artistic - very low marks for the quality of the elements, etc (although the circular footwork was a very small circle -0.1) and the performance. At Worlds later she would get two 5.9s for artistic as the 3rd skater of 37 women and a slew of 5.8s for technical - marks more worthy of a great SP like this one was for her.

NVM. Didn’t read through the rest of the thread before replying. Still, that was 20 years ago. I’ve also heard Nancy’s doing commercials for local car dealerships and making appearances at home shows. Maybe money is getting tighter?

I highly doubt Nancy is hurting for money unless Jerry Solomon lost a bunch of money to Bernie Madoff. Jerry Solomon made a ton of money , from his management of Ivan Lendl to his later position with ProServ and I believe he was with the NFL as well.

Yay for Mirai! If she can really let go and have fun, she'll have a good shot at making it far. She's got the line, extension and flexibly to make the moves look good (just look at her pic with her partner!) but she needs to bring it on the personality and energy when she dances.

I'm happy for both her and Adam. I've never watch DWTS (still don't plan to) but I will check out the highlights on YT.

Really? Why? What the point of a 4 week season? Did they lose advertisers or something?

Yep. 4 episodes. And that's the exact same thing I be saying. What's the point! They should have just canceled the Spring season and held the show back until the Fall. It actually would have been more refreshed that way. Its because of American Idol taking the Monday night slot. There was no time on the schedule so again I say .. .just dump the season and wait until the Fall season.
