The Voice Spring 2016

Didn't get the chair turn for the woman who sang 'Mad World'. Almost as bad as the one who sang 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road'.

Andy Grammer's wife made a horrible song choice for her voice. Her voice would still have been pretty average but he should have helped her instead of being so blindly sappy.

Christina and Joe singing together was great. She has a very strong team, but I think Adam and Blake are better at getting votes, so I suspect one of them will win again. Unless Pharrell gets some good steals, I don't think he's really in the running for the win. But Christina's going to have to let some pretty good ones go.

Adam picked up some good singers this week like Owen and Ryan. I'd bet money that Adam will put Leith and Matt in a Battle with lots of guitar. That should be good. I think I prefer Leith's voice, but we'll see.

If Pharrell is smart, he'll steal a couple of Xtina's singers she has to cut. The battle rounds are the most interesting aspect of this show: what songs the coach and singers choose and how well they perform. Some of the battle round duets have been the best performances. The steal option really can change the team dynamics. If I were a coach, I'd turn for a few singers that I knew I would eliminate in order to hold and then free spots for potential steals. The blind auditions are edited and not shown in the order they took place which makes which singers you turn for very strategic. When do you turn for someone you really want knowing if more chairs turn you really have to argue your case, versus those you don't really want but will take in order to cut and possibly pick up a steal.

I was cringing at the girl singing Skyfall, but I think it's because of the song choice. She sounded better when she was singing that Christina's team was full.

It's unfortunate, but I kept thinking that the country singer from Joplin looked like Josh Duggar. :scream: He was okay, but I think he's probably fodder.

Moushumi's voice is nice, but I'm not sure she should give up her career as a doctor. But, since she's on Pharrell's team, she might go a few rounds.

I wonder if they purposely saved Katie until after Blake's team was full so that they could get a country singer on another team. I wish she had picked Pharrell. Instead Adam puts her up against Ryan and gives her away to Blake.

Josh is a young cutie who has a decent voice. And, because he's on Pharrell's team, he might make it for a round. But, he's not going to go very far.

I think the producers told Christina to choose someone already so that everyone could go home. And she chose Ayanna, who is now fodder on a team as strong as hers. But it was fun to see Xtina tell everyone her team was full. Shallow note: I find nose rings so distracting.

Katie v. Ryan -- I preferred Katie, but Ryan was good, too. I understand why Adam chose Ryan because he's the type of contestant who gets votes. But, I wish Adam hadn't put them up against each other. Katie should go quite far. I hope Blake didn't push his button just to annoy Christina. It would have been kind of fun if Katie had chosen Christina and then Blake stole her in the Knockout rounds.

Brittney v. Paxton -- Brittney is a powerful singer, but I think Paxton is overall a stronger performer. I would have made the same choice as Blake.

I know that Christina's team had a lot of depth, but I still think that she should not have put Bryan and Malik together. She was right when she said she was the one losing. Pharrell just stole himself a really good one.

I don't see a clear front runner this season, unlike last season with Jordan Smith. Jordan could've been on anyone's team, even Gwen's and still won. I would say Owen is probably the best among the rest this season. Ryan is eye candy with a decent voice. I like the Indian woman's voice more than powerhouse vocalists. Mary Sarah, Curly Sue, carnival dude, and the dude that sang duet with Adam had pretty good auditions.

I think the producers told Christina to choose someone already so that everyone could go home.
That's not fair to those contestants who have not had their chance, but who may be better than Ayanna.

I disagree. Someone telling Christina what to do? Last year Pharrell went thru a lot of singers before he completed his team. I think that either she really wanted Ayanna or she chose her for fodder. After all, if they were pressed for time they could have edited the montage section a little shorter.

There have been many singers worse than Ayanna on the Voice.
Choosing "fodder" is part of the strategy required to succeed.

I missed the battle with the Where the Boys Are girl due to a phone call. Did she go thru?

I thought this was a really good night. There's much more depth to the talent this season than there was last season.

Tamar v. Shalyah -- Another good Team Xtina performance, though I think that last night's was better. Tough call for Xtina. Tamar is more polished, but Shalyah is a raw talent with lots of potential. XTina went with her heart. I don't think either of them will win the title, but Pharrell got another good steal from Team Xtina. As expected, Pharrell both of Pharrell's steals are from Xtina.

Justin v. Mary Sarah - I thought Mary was definitely the right choice. I feel like Justin is generic. Mary's a good vocalist and a good performer, and she's different from everyone else in the competition. I like her so much better than the cute blonde country singers Blake usually has on his team. Blake should keep her around.

Nick v. Jessica -- I think Pharrell went with the total package, not just the voice. I preferred Jessica's voice, but that's largely my subjective taste. I don't generally like high men's voices. But, I'm surprised Adam stole Jessica.

Kata v. Chelsea -- That song was more suited to Kata. Kata's just got more grit and more energy and performance ability. She probably will be a polarizing contestant, and the producers will love that. But, I actually thought that Chelsea sang better. I wonder if Christina wishes she had put Bryan up against Kata and put Malik up against Chelsea and kept Bryan and Malik.

Nate v. Natalie -- I actually think this song and arrangement fit Nate better. And I think Nate's voice probably more naturally appeals to Adam. I don't think Natalie ever got totally comfortable. She did better in the audition. So, it makes sense that Adam chose Nate. But I don't think Nate is going to go far.

Hannah v. Maya - They were both really good. Pharrell shouldn't have put them up against each other. Nice steal for Christina. This thing Blake is doing where he turns at the last minute after Xtina turns? It's getting old.

I also thought it was a good night.

Tamar vs Shalyah - I preferred Shalyah's voice but Tamar has a better backstory & I feel sorry for her so I'm glad she's still on the show. (Chelsea stolen by Pharrell.) I also think she waited too long to try to come back. I think she's 35 so what has she been doing since college?

Justin vs Mary Sarah - I love Mary Sarah. To me she's one of the front runners so IMO just about anyone would have come off as generic against her.

Nick vs Jessica - I also preferred Jessica but I would be surprised if either survives the knockouts.

Kata vs Chelsea - I couldn't stand Kata's audition & she was barely better here. I couldn't believe Christina went with her, esp since 2 judges said Chelsea was better.

Nate vs Natalie - Adam correctly chose Nate but neither was very memorable. I was surprised Adam didn't keep the pretty girl.

Hannah vs Maya - I chose Hannah by a very slim margin but both were fantastic. I was glad Hannah was stolen by Christina.

Maybe Xtina want more make-out sessions with Kata :D

I think Pharrell was always going to pick Emily no matter what Jonathan did.

This is the same chick that sang that awful rendition of 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road'?

Yeah, I think so. He just kept going on and on in the rehearsals about how "special" she is.

I also think Adam should have kept the guy over the little blonde girl (I can't remember her name).

I didn't think tonight's show was as good as last week, but still pretty good.

Adam v. Jared -- I didn't really care who won, but I think Blake made the right choice with Adam.

Emily v. Jonathan - I still don't get the appeal of Emily. But I didn't think either of them were anything special.

Daniel v. Kristen -- It was a close battle. I think Daniel was the right choice, but I kept going back and forth in my mind. I don't think either is finale material. I wish Xtina had paired her team up so that, instead of still having Kata and Daniel, she still had Lacey and Malik or Maya.

Brian v. Abby -- I thought it was a close call. I wonder if Pharrell went with Abby because he thought that someone would steal Brian and he wanted both of them to still be in the competition. I don't think I would have stolen either of them.

Caroline v. Michael -- I thought Michael was better. She seems like a kid. I wonder if Adam chose Caroline because he thought Blake would steal her if he didn't and he doesn't like losing anyone to Blake. She's totally Blake's type. I felt bad for Mike.

Alisan v. Lacy - Alisan was powerful, but Lacy held her own. Lacy's a tough fighter. That was a good steal for Blake. Not a smart pairing by Xtina. I know her team is deep, but I prefer Lacy to others still on Xtina's team.

I don't know why Pharrell wanted to keep Abby. That was a selfish decision on Adam's part if your hypothesis is true. Choosing someone over another for your own interests not for theirs. It was clear that Michael was better than Caroline. Oh well, both won't make it to the finale anyways. But the longer you hang on the better to gain more fans.

So Alisan is the Jordan Smith of this season, according to Adam. I'll have to see the rest of the battle rounds to concur with that

For voting appeal, I don't think so. She's had more show business lives than a cat. Someone else needs this more.

I don't even watch this show much. Flipped the channel over right before the last battle started. I don't know anybody's names and I always jinx people so whoever it was that won that one should win the whole thing or just go get a recording contract for $1M right now (just sayin'...........)

Maybe so but show business isn't built on who needs it more. I would rather listen to Alisan than anyone else on the show. And AFAIC she is an unknown in the music world (at least to me) & her voice deserves to be heard imo.

I don't think she has the look or personality, and she has yet to invoke God. Plus, I don't think Christina's team members tend to get many votes just for being on her team. Adam and Blake have some fans that vote for their contestants just because their fans of Blake or Adam.

Tonight was pretty meh. Xtina waited too long to steal. Trey is fodder for the knockouts. I enjoyed Laith, but I doubt he'll go really far.
