UPDATED: OMFG . . . Adam Rippon, Tonya Harding and Mirai Nagasu are on the DWTS' all-athlete cast

Mirai was interviewed on a network that was not associated with DWTS and asked them to "Put a good word in" for her, and the hosts had to remind her their network had nothing to do with DWTS. That is actually pretty embarrassing. She was totally overeager.

I didn’t know about that. I thought her only comments about DWTS were in post-Olympic FS interview. I feel like I’d have to watch the interview to make a proper judgment about it though. Anyway I don’t really want to drag up that past drama in this thread so I’m ok to stop talking about here. Thanks for your reply!

Remember the swimmer Ryan Lochtke from 2016 Olympics? They like controversial people. But I do have to laugh that after Tonya blew her opportunity for fame with I, Tonya and refusing interviews that would mention the whack that she managed to get this gig. I guess that means the Shibs are not in? It's hard to see 4 figure skaters getting the nod.
I actually came to find Ryan to be very endearing when he was on the show. He really tried to 'perform' his routines and genuinely looked like he was having fun, despite his lack of reak dancing talent, and he handled the controversies very well - like when a protester stormed the dance floor one week, and actually somewhat admitted to his mistakes and recognized he was getting a second chance. I was actually sad to see him go (and actually voted for him a few times)!

I doubt I'll find Tonya that enjoyable, but it will definitely be interesting!

Having watched I Tonya... I am officially over Nancy-gate.

Tonya has spent 24 years a social pariah. How can I seek forgiveness and wish people will get over my mistakes if I don't have that integrity myself. JMVHO of course.

The only person who can grant Tonya forgivness is Nancy....the person who was injured. You and I do not have that power.

Adam and Tonya are probably both on the show because it captures a large audience to have someone so hated by skating in the same cast with someone so beloved by skating.

No, in fact they are there for the same reason: they are more known to the common audience for out-of-the-rink stuff than skating. Adam's post-skating career is now built on good looks, fighting with Pence and that he is a gay athlete. He is milking it with a vengeance, trolling silly haters.

Tonya will do well, she did a segment on ice with some guy on TV where she was really funny and had charisma, so she will likewise troll the haters here, should be fun.

At the end of the day, hating is exhausting and self-destrutive, I am happy for them both.

It's a reality show and they have cast worse people. At least skating will get some air time again. :D

...... I am looking forward to seeing how she interprets all of the different dancing styles..

The show run is only 4 weeks. Show starts on April 30, finale is May 21 (or 22?). How many dance styles are they really going to manage to hit in 4 weeks? Four? Are they going to do 2 dances every week? Three? If so, there are going to be a lot of sloppy, just throw something out there dances versus routines that are rehearsed over the course of a week. At the point where they are sometimes doing two dances, they been doing the show for over a month and have the broader DWTS training to be able to pull off 2 dances in a week.

On a DWTS as a show thought only, it was really stupid to blow a great gimmick like "all athletes" on a throw away season that will barely be on. They are not going to have enough time to improve the way we usually see the Stars improve.

Tonya so doesn't seem the DWTS type to me. I don't mean that offensively - she just seems very down-to-earth and not a 'fancy' sort of women (doesn't look to wear a lot of make-up). Fancy doesn't seem natural for her - I thought she looked uncomfortable in the dress she wore to the Golden Globes, and it was not a particularly fancy dress.

So it will be interesting to see how they 'polish' her up.

DWTS was planning a junior version for this season, which did not come together in time, and I think this shortened season was a last-minute save. I read there are going to be 2 dances and 2 celebrities eliminated every week. It's a waste of the athletes, but they generally do a better job of learning quickly than the comedians, TV hosts, etc so they're the best choice for this time frame. Basically this season starts at the usual midway point when the obvious early eliminations are gone.

No, thank you. She has had plenty of attention and celebrity status from the movie. I find her boring.

If Adam outlasts her, I will start watching then.
Which made me think... If a lot of skating fans (including the once-every-4-year "fans") do this and boycott the show because Tonya is there, I wonder if Adam could get eliminated early, no matter how he does on the dance floor, or whether he already has a reliable voting bloc of non-skating fans that will vote for him to stay. (I have never really watched the show but I've gotten the picture that reliable & enthusiastic voting blocs are important in this game.)

Cool

Those three all seemed too eager to want to be on the show--and, that bothered me.
 because what people really want to be entertained by is a reality challenge show populated by a bunch of c list disinterested celebrities who can either take it or leave it “give me a high mark or a low mark Len. I’m really not bothered either way”

Well I'll be ignoring DWTS for the first time since it came on the air. Pity, but I don't want to support Tonya in any way. So I'll watch Adam's dances on you tube when they appear.

The Shibs never mentioned DWTS. The only time they spoke about it was when Kelly Rippa asked them and they just said they'd be open. They weren't campaigning or anything.
That's so not true. Type 'Shibutani d' into google and it will fill in the rest for you. Here are articles from before their appearance on Live.

Why do you think they skipped Worlds? They wanted to take advantage of media appearances and maybe get an invite to DWTS.

What do you want her to do? She served her community service, she was booted from USFS. She was mocked for 24 years... and after over 24 years of hearing the same thing I would be telling people where to go. Why would I expect her to grovel for the rest of her life?

I don't demand that from anyone in my life.

Really don't care if she grovels or not. I would rather never hear about her again. A cheater without any humanity should not be making money off celebrity gained from being a part of a competitor being seriously injured (luckily not career ending) just so she could be number one.

Unfortunately with our media it will never happen.

gee.. seeing as they had an 8 year senior career where they were among the top the whole time and had capped it all off with an oly medal and had just about won everything they could win (with P/C staying in and the US judges just gagging to replace them with their error prone teammates, is a world title or ogm really realistic for a sibling team everyone has slagged off as “limited” for almost a decade?) I had just assumed they were ready to move on to the next phase of their career/life. I had no idea they were making big life choices solely based on casting for one season of one tv show.
