OK let’s see what Amber does in two weeks ❤️
Yup - Amber & Starr have their work cut out for them to get back in the 4CCs/Worlds conversation.

I'm so impressed with both Lindsay and Ava Marie. I hope Ava Marie is learning how to manage pressure and expectations and will have a much better Nats than she did last season. Lindsay is really showing her mettle - great consistency in all 4 of her comps so far this season.

Amber just needs to connect the dots. She was in second place in the short program at skate America and second place in the free program in Finland. Now we need to make them the same event.
As someone who is a big Paul Wylie fan, I genuinely admire your hopefulness.

I like all four of the American women who won Grand Prix medals this season, so I'm bummed that half of them won't go to Worlds.

ETA: @AngelaNikodinovLove, if you haven't listened to the latest podcast episode of The Runthrough, you should listen just to hear them talk about Amber. Especially Adam. I'm pretty sure that Amber listens.

I think Amber, Lindsay and Ava Marie are on even footing heading into Nationals. I know you’re a Lindsay uber, but the reality is that she is still heavily dependent on the caller, and AM and Amber need to put two good programs together. Amber probably has the highest ceiling of the 3, but I figure whoever finishes highest at nationals is headed to worlds, there isn’t enough “body of work” to put one ahead of the others.

The USFS actually has a Worlds Team selection process & document this season and the skaters total scores factor into the decison-making, IIRC. It won't be simply matter of who finishes highest at Nats.

The calculations and factors only put people into the selection pool - from there it is up to the committee to choose. Based on their documents I actually could see a team of Glenn, Thorngren and Zeigler for 4CC because it would help with world standing points, and those with world medal potential only go if they request to (so Isabeau will probably have the option to skip). For worlds, I think they will go with whomever is 2nd at nationals. I guess we’ll find out in 2 months!

I could see a 4CCs team of the same, especially if Isabeau medals at the GPF - she won't need the WS points to get into the last SP group at Worlds.

The selection document also states the athletes will be placed in a ranked order. Given that they have actually quantified how skaters earn the points for the selection pool, I suspect that those points are going to weigh heavily in whatever ranking order is agreed upon by the International Committee. Otherwise, what's the point of trying to quantify and compare how you have done this season?

Ava Marie is a bit like Gabby Daleman a wild skater with big jumps but struggles to control them but she's done something Gabby never did medal on the GP.

Just a reminder that the 4CCs team will be chosen right after the GPF (and Golden Spin). Assuming Isabeau skips it (which seems likely given her experience last year and the fact that it's a week after nationals), at this point Amber, Lindsay, and Ava seem like the obvious choices. Starr would have to do amazing at Golden Spin to get back into the conversation, but even then I would still pick the three I mentioned.

Holy score for Ziegler at NHK - wow.

I love Ziegler, but my one BIG caution is that she still does not have a reliable triple-triple combination. She's racking up all the points in the free skate by doing the 3Lz+2A+2A and repeating both lutz and flip (curious to see if anyone will copy). But she will continue to struggle in the short program, as she did here, until she gets a triple-triple consistent. She has tried both 3F+3T and 3Lz+3T this season, and I think her original free skate layout had 3F+3T and 3Lz+2A+2T.

The big challenge for her will be placing in the top 3 (maybe even top 5) at the short program at Nationals, and then not getting buried in the short program at Worlds if she were to qualify.

But I imagine her domestic scores will get a boost after this win. Definitely one of the more random GP results I've seen!

ITA that a reliable 3-3 is the minimum requirement for top-level success. I do think she needs some jump help but she sells the program up to the cheap seats.

On a shallow note, Ava’s dress is gorgeous on her and the illusion fabric matches her skin perfectly and doesn’t wrinkle. I care about that.

I remember when her mpther skated her las program at Nationals and the illusion fabric was anything but wonderful. Then again, fabrics have come a long way in 20+ years...

I wouldn't count out Elyce Lin-Gracey. She'll be competing senior at Nats, and she's been having a very consistent season of on- and near-podium finishes. Her scores aren't comparable with those of the other women yet, but if anyone falters, I wouldn't be surprised if she could step up to the challenge.

Her challenge will be that she's been skating junior this season internationally and the Worlds & 4CCs selection docs doesn't give any points for JGP scores. She's definitely a bit hamstrung in that regard. Then again, Lindsay doesn't have a Challenger score to include since she had to WD from ACI.

Would she have earned any points skating senior at Warsaw Cup? I can never keep track of which competitions give points and which don't.

Yes, plus she would have earned points from Cranberry Cup. I'll post the current "standings" when I get them tabulated over in this thread - https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...titions-series-finals-dates-locations.110571/ - as that's where the selection docs were originally posted. I'll also probably cross-post here too.
