U.S. Ladies [#25]: Method in the Madness

Ding ding ding ding.

I find it funny that people are saying Adam is biased and thus shouldn't say anything, but All That Skate literally stands to gain financially from people paying more attention to Eunsoo. Can't get much more biased than that.

I also believe ATS knew exactly what they were doing by choosing to whip into a frenzy one of the most psychotic fanbases in figure skating...so who's bullying who?

Now, I'm not saying it's impossible for Mariah to have bullied Eunsoo...what do I know, I don't train in that rink, after all. But...the way ATS has gone about this is immediately enough to have me a little suspicious of their motive.

Speaking of psychotic fans...your anti-Yuna/anti-Korean posts make me suspicious of your motives.

It’s not like she “bumped her- didn’t the actual contact involve Mariah’s blade? So while practicing her program, she attempted to stab her sidelined competitor and training partner in the leg with her moving skate blade in the middle of practicing at worlds with her coach right there , cameras, onlookers, etc...watching? 🙄 That seems very Tonya like of her...

Dreadfully sorry that my objecting to fans making death threats offends your sensibilities.

Oh please. Do you ever comment on all the death threats that Japanese or Russian fans make all the time? No. You seem very fixated on the "psycho" Korean fans when there are crazed fans of all ethnicities.

As someone who works in management myself, this attack against Mariah smells suspiciously of a publicity ploy from Eunsoo's management. I don't believe for one second that Raf would put up with bullying of any kind within his club. And how is it that Eunsoo's management "knows" all about the alleged bullying but no one else at Raf's rink seems to? Adam has already denied it; Nathan, in the past, has said that Raf's rink is "super-friendly."

Eunsoo seems like a sweet girl. I hope she is not in over her head with shady representatives.

Maybe I just haven't seen them? The worst I've seen is Hanyu fans attacking Denis Ten for getting in Yuzu's way at a Worlds practice, but I hadn't seen death threats.

The Yunabots, however, were/are a scary entity unto themselves...

There were death threats to Ten too but my point is there are crazed fans of all nationalities. Not just "Yunabots" (which is just code for Korean since we know 99.9% of them are). I'm not even Korean but I think it's unfair that the second anything happens when someone is affiliated with Yuna/is Korean themself, it's because the fans are "psychotic".

Let’s not personally attack each other now.

With all the talks about the US Ladies being in a rut, it’s quite heartening to witness Mariah and Bradie truly pushing the envelope for the US ladies. Bradie’s resolve to get the 3Lz-3Lo no matter what and Mariah’s goals of making her mark are such good narratives for the season. For Bell and Tennell to have done this well thus far in a ladies field with immense depth shows their grit and determination through and through.

Cannot wait for the upcoming season.

2019/2020 Senior Ladies to Look Out For:
- Bradie Tennell
- Mariah Bell
- Ting Cui (?)
- Hanna Harrell (?)
- Karen Chen (?)
- Gracie Gold
- Polina Edmunds (?)
- Starr Andrews
- Megan Wessenberg

The top three girls can score above 200 in international competition whilst Harrell will probably reach 185-195 once she receives more exposure. Starr and Megan will shoot for 180+ whilst the other big question marks will have to work towards regaining the faith of the judges and fans. The top 3 are also guaranteed Grand Prix spots.

(?) - Not sure as to whether or not they will come back OR for Ting and Hanna, whether or not they’ll move up to Seniors

That may absolutely be the case, HOWEVER, the fact that Adam or Nathan are not aware of bullying or think the rink is “super-friendly” is irrelevant. Lots of people work day after day in workplaces where someone is being harassed and or assaulted and the people around never know. That is why bullying/sexual harassment/sexual misconduct is so difficult to deal with. That is why victims don’t come forward. It is especially difficult if the perpetrator is well liked because then you suddenly get all these “character references” like the many those creeps at Fox got when allegations surface.

I am not saying there is anything going on. I have no idea. But just because no one else has seen it or just because it hasn’t happen to you, doesn’t mean it is not happening. Eunsoo’s management company may be as crazy as they come, they may have done some terrible things in the past, but again, that doesn’t mean they are doing it now. Until we hear from Eunsoo, which we may never, and until there is an investigation, which we may never know about, we really know squat and even millions of “but Mariah would never bully” mean nothing.

I really hope it was all just an accident and a misunderstanding and both Eunsoo and Mariah have already working it out.

I believe Ting ages out and has to be senior for next year.

In the warmup for the short toward the end, Mariah and Sofia Samodurova skated close by each other (fairly slowly). They were both doing little landing timer exercises, Mariah was skating along the boards and Sofia was backward curving toward her. Mariah kept an eye on Sofia and even smiled at her when they passed each other.

Come on.

I saw that too, although I was so sleepy at the time I had a little trouble interpreting the interaction.

Adam, Nathan and other skaters at their rink would know whether they had to be separated on different sessions and in different locker rooms, as has been alleged.

Lim needs to run away from her representation. Whether true or not, in no way does this help her except to setup an excuse for a potential poor performance.

Here's what I see:
  1. They've created a public controversy in a coaching camp. (And if I were Raf I'd be PISSED that one of my clients is trying to take control of messaging from me. I get that Raf may be trying to become the major coach of Korean Ladies, but I would fire Lim, regardless of whether or not this claim is true. I'm sorry, but you don't get to threaten my reputation and business in a public forum.)
  2. Lim now appears weak. Instead of being setup to surprise and succeed, she's being setup in a narrative of failure and excuses.
  3. They've now guaranteed a toxic training environment (and if one didn't exist before, it surely will now.) I can see a "walking on egg shells" type of mentality now if both Bell and Lim stay. Again, if I were Raf, I'd fire one of them (and that one would be the one that is trying to create a public controversy.)
Sigh, this whole thing is just stupid, and I don't see how it helps anyone.

This is so weird... I mean Mariah has the bully capabilities of a newborn bunny rabbit with cadbury eggs around it.

And on top of this they are training mates. Sounds like her PR end from Korea or something....

And dont get me wrong I LURVE a Katarina Witt-style staredown but Mariah has 0% characteristic traits of a bully.

And while we are on topic of Lim.... I dont get the Tara and Johnny gushing.... she is wayyyyyy too introverted (especially for the Chicago piece????? SO WRONG on her.. Roxy Hart, she aint. Velma Kelly she AINT. THOSE are broads!!! Murderous broads. Lim is lyrical and introverted and quiet). Lovely skater but she only sells it to row #1. And doesn't realize yet there are 98 more rows.

I have to believe Tara and Johnny have never seen a Chicago production because they would realize how off they are their gushing on her for that Chicago free.

O-kurrrrrrrr??????

I didn’t get how Johnny and Tara were criticizing her short programming and digging the long. Her short program is better suited.

This whole alleged skandal seems pretty incredulous. Jackie Wong was at practice diligently reporting on everything and yet he did not report an on ice accident. And that's exactly what would have happened if Bell's skate had in fact made contact with Lim's leg with sufficient force to injure her. Bell would have been thrown off balance - that's dictated by physics - yet there was no report of any accident other than by the Korean media? You can't just spike another skater with your free leg and have it go unnoticed, and for that reason this seems to me like a manufactured controversy.

I agree. I much love Lim’s Short over her long. It’s more suited for her.

Hot off the press!

Team_Raf has officially posted Adam’s comment of their official Instagram story.

^^^^ Yes, I agree.. Somewhere In Time (as Yuna recommended) suits her.

Down-on-their-luck broads, desperate broads of Chicago aint Lim.

Anywhoooooo I hope Bell and Tennell can slay....

A little thing that I've been wondering about the story reported in the articles: the articles, as translated, say that the two skaters have been separated, even using separate locker rooms. Do the skaters at Artunian's rink use the locker rooms? At the rinks that I skate at which are also hockey rinks, the ice skaters do not use the locker rooms. Locker rooms are not assigned for freestyle ice. The exception I've seen is when the synchro skaters use the locker rooms before and after synchro team practice, but that's about it. Are things different at Lakewood, or in California in general?
