GP 2016-17 Pre-Announcement Thread

Wow Gracie and Ashley both at SA? Looks like the USFSA realizes that competition is good and will push them even more.

Sakhanovich getting a spot at SA, nice :) Higuchi moving up too :) Leonova with only 1 spot, her era is ending...

Here are the seven Pair teams at Skate Canada, till the grid comes out (from Skate Canada press release):
PAIR

Meagan Duhamel / Eric Radford (CAN)

Lubov Ilyushechkina / Dylan Moscovtich (CAN)

TBD (CAN)

Xiaoyu Yu / Hao Zhang (CHN)

Nicole Della Monica / Matteo Guarise (ITA)

Vera Bazarova / Andrei Deputat (RUS)

Yuko Kavaguti / Alexander Smirnov (RUS)

Haven Denney / Brandon Frazier (USA)

Apparently McNamara/Carpenter really are staying junior. :blah:
M/C really should be embarrassed that a vastly inferior US Junior team like Elliana POGREBINSKY / Alex BENOIT at least had the guts to go to the next level and challenge themselves on the GP against the Senior teams. M/C will gain nothing by domination another season on the JGP. And how many years will it be them skating as Juniors at Nationals again? A decade? :wall:

I don't see McNamara/Carpenter, so it sets then, they're not moving up. Don't get it, they have nothing to win staying in Junior.

There is the possibility that McNamara/Carpenter will still compete in Senior nationally (singles and pairs do it) but of course they would need a different SD, which would likely mean no, but with both pattern dances being a blues theme, it might be more feasible to do that this year than in other years.

Honestly, well, I don't why they're staying in juniors again. I get that the US field is super deep in ice dance. But some risks are worth taking. And they need to take that risk to get to where they want to be eventually in a few years. Like Evgenia took a bit of a risk of going to seniors full-out right after winning the JWC title and look what happened. I'm pretty sure when the GP assignments came out last year, NO ONE expected Evgenia to win everything except COR. And look what happened: She had shown she's s force to be reckoned with (Even though some question her lutz). Sure ice dance is different from ladies, but the same principle.

That or they just want to sell as much tickets as possible. GPF qualification for the skaters has never been a big worry for them.

I agree . Bad move. It didnt work for Monko/Khaliavin in 2011. It wont work for them now.

Well Ashley is in seeding group 1-3 and Gracie in group 4-6 based on Worlds placements from last season. It wasn't highly unlikely that they'd meet somewhere in the GP series. Might as well help sell tickets at SA with it.
