This Malinina program reminds me of the time she shockingly made the 2001-2002 GPF and was like “I need another long program!” During a NHK Post-Skate interview with Terry Gannon when the GPF made skaters do two LPs, and guess which program she brought back?

First time I ever do PBP in the same season for a mother and her son!

I also remember seeing ABC showing backstage coverage during 2002 Worlds after the ladies competition was over and showing Kwan walking backstage and then Malinina talking to her from a couch and seemingly giving Kwan some warm words. I always thought that looked so nice.

I love that Malinina could get straight 5.8s for technical merit with "only" 5 triples.

I will say the choreography and program construction is weak, but she did a MUCH better job actually performing this program compared to the previous season. Huge improvement there.

In the long program runthrough the day of the event, she landed a beauty of a 3Lz at the end with all other jumps clean. I think she wanted to do it, but always got too nervous that she'd mess up.

And hate all you want, but Gusmeroli makes a case to beat Malinina in the long here IMO. A much more complete program in just about every way, and they landed the same amount of tripes even if Vanessa's weren't as clean.

French skaters don’t seem to medal with thief programs. See also Delobel/Schoenfelder 2007 Worlds.
I think they were thieves or something.
