FSU Watch Party Saturday #3: 1999 Worlds Ladies LP [2:30pm CDT/8:30pm CET]

Peter Tchernysev!!!!!

And Obertas was cheering Liashenko earlier

The Brit commentators always loved saying the names of the cities and states American skaters came from. I heard “Torrance in California” so many times from them when Kwan skated. They make it sound so exotic.

Sarah's Swan Lake is very Painting by numbers. Using the same cuts as Galindo and Baiul doesn't help her....

She would be classic Mirai Nagasued with those jumps with a modern tech panel.

I always appreciated the cadence of "Great Neck, New York"

There was a fluff piece once where Robin Wagner was counting out the timing for Sarah. Every time I see one of her programs I can hear Robin counting in her head because I don't think she had very much natural timing at all unless Robin beat it into her head.

I don't know why but I think her jumps at this competition were better than those she landed in SLC three years later???

Sarah Hughes always had great laybacks but they always made her cut them so short.

That makes sense. Her lack of timing and rhythm and coordination comes through in her skating, so it’s very commendable that Hughes was able to do what she did.

Her posture isn't appealing at all. After the lovely swiss FP, this looks quite rough.

There may be a worldwide pandemic and I'm in self-quarantine, but we've gotten two Robin Wagner K&Cs today, so it ends up being a VERY good day. :cheer:

Her straight line step sequence did not go from board to board.

Story of her life. I think Hughes is kind of maddening because she really is polished for a 13 year old and had great qualities and competitive mindset, but there were so many details and issues that weren’t worked on or ignored that took away from the skater she could have been. But then she is an Olympic gold medalist so it was good enough...to take advantage of others mistakes.

Sarah Behind Freakin'???

I loved her reaction after the marks 'I'll finish seventh... or eight!' hey girl you didn't even imagine where you will end three years later (and four later too)

I can't believe Chris is so confident Butyrskaya would win this.

I definitely thought she was going to implode her LP and end up off the podium.

I remember hearing a story of Butyrskaya laughing at Kwan’s haircut with some other skaters at this competition. I also heard that same story about Amber Corwin at that year’s Nationals, so I wonder if people were just spreading fake gossip because it just sounded juicy.
