FSU Watch Party Saturday #2: 2006 Olympics OD [12:30pm CDT/6:30pm CET]

Pechelat/Bourzat

-splat by her
-twizzles slow like the rest of the field so far, I think they must have improved those later in their career because I don't recall them being that slow
-effective lifts
- a few reach and grab moments in the choreography (spacing issue)

Aside, one can really see the technical progression in ice dance in lift difficulty, twizzle difficulty, etc. comparing this field to now. Maybe there was more body expression back then, though?

Is there an English version of P/B's rhumba section song? The tune sounds so familiar.

And the first one bites the dust. I've never seen this program before by P&B:biggrinbo. I'm sure the first time I saw them was during the FD at this Olympics. They came a long, long way!

oh no a fall

Yeah, to repurpose Tracy's earlier comment, "We're going to see a lot of that here;)."

I'm comparing the Rhumbas here with the Rhumbas from the 2018 Olympics and I have to say I think the dancing has improved now even though I said there was more dancing for the 2010 ODs...but maybe the choreography was just much busier.

I think there were more falls in 2006 because more teams legitimately believed they had a shot; the results weren't a foregone conclusion, which led to more pressure and more wipe-outs.

P/B, wheeeeeeeeee, my faves :cheer: This is the season they had the modern Four Seasons aka Cottonballs, non?

No, that was the next season. During the Olympic year they did Les Mis & her headband fell down during the FS here, if I remember correctly.

Yesterday's OD and now today I am getting huge enjoyment out of the unimpressed faces in the kiss and cry. No one is even trying to hide it. :drama:

I forgot how long it took for teams to really master twizzles after it became a required element.

I remember thinking the same thing when I watched 2005 Worlds FD some time ago. I forgot how hard twizzles were for most of those teams. From what I saw, only Delobel/Schoenfelder and Belbin/Agosto did them like they weren't scared of them.

I can't tell much as it's blurry as hell. But one thing is for sure: their hair is not as tragic as those of the to-date-poles.
