I don't think solo ice dance is a thing in China, at least there aren't any competition categories for that.
I don't think it needs to be a competition category, I just think a skater can be taught to be a solo dancer till she finds a partner? Maybe I've forgotten (I vaguely remember asking this here or elsewhere, or reading a reply to someone else) - but then how are the girls who can't find partners taught in the US or Canada? Girls outnumber boys in ice dance and Pairs, this is always the case, everywhere. Pair girls can do singles until they find someone to make the switch. But Ice Dance girls aren't necessarily sent to singles, so what do they end up doing? The answer isn't "Pair up with my coach who is twice my age" usually.

Does anyone know the deets on Xiao/Wang? Like he was her singles coach, and then they just...switched to ice dance...together?? What??? 🤔 And he was her coach since she was like 12 or something??

Geruiqi MEI,
What an unusual name for someone Chinese. Four characters?

ETA: Please someone make Yudong move to a different coach.

Very fair scoring so far, congrats to CFSA, except for the plethora of nonsense they keep doing. David Day leads, by the way.

Any updates on Boyang? The last I heard was that he had arrived in Canada to train just prior the GP. Then he withdrew from the series & there was speculation that he was only just putting together programs. And I've heard nothing since.

I'd say it's the Chinese government's unwillingness to import the mRNA vaccines that completely backfired.
Yes we have a friend who is still in touch with his former physician colleagues in China and their refusal to import the far more effective mRNA is having a devastating impact in China right now. The death rates are awful.

Don't know what happened to Beverly. Liked Nini and Hongyi both, hope either of them can go get senior worlds minimums, and of course hope to see Nini at Junior Worlds.

"i花滑" on Weibo posts the starting orders for each day. Today's starting order: https://weibo.com/7725475508/MnWcIbiDL
I wish they'd make a twitter account and do translated starting lists and all (translated interviews would be great too). I know the pang/tong account used to tweet, but I don't think they do anymore. This stream is very good quality, and the skating is good quality even if not internationally competitive, deserves more publicity. Wouldn't mind CFSA being skewered for Sun/Li and Xiao/Wang either. Don't think even Skating China or panda_wei tweet anymore?

Also, is there a page for the results? I think there used to be for some of the past nationals?

Wait, how old is Zhang Jiaxuan, she also looks way too small next to Huang Yihang? Super huge throw though.

15 (born in 2007). Huang is 20.
Well I suppose she's just a very short girl. I felt bad for Wang/Huang last season, they were very nice skaters, but the throws were always going to fail when a pair is so even in height. This is a technically better pair I guess, with a decent amount of personality, even if a bit jarring to the eye right now for me.

Hey the second Pairs group made me come back to my seat after :scream: 10/10 would recommend (y) Zhang/Yang lead! Men's free skating next!

Well pairs SP scoring was kinda iffy wasn't it... No way Zhang/Huang should be that far behind the first two. I though they should've gone into first... It's been like what 20 years and Luan Bo pairs are still getting the Luan Bo treatment.

Need to wait for the protocols but I think Wang/Jia was even ahead of Zhang/Huang in TES??? How on earth did that happen when Wang/Jia had a fall on the throw, 2A vs 3T SBS, and Zhang/Huang having a maybe a slight edge in the twist.

Well let's hope I will Yudong's coaching change into existence, and that it also comes with a choreographer change.

That was a rough skate, he looks unwell. A lot of the skaters are struggling to recover from the effects of covid :(
True, but with Yudong it's also true that he's had only one inspired skate though, with his JGP long program this season. He even went to Raf in 2018 or so, he needs a kick up the butt a bit. I think he'd do well with the Xu/Fu team.
