Wow. The SkAm selections for men, women and dance pretty much like up with my preferences. Pairs, meh, but in a depleted pairs pool, about what I expected.

I doubt this will happen but it would be nice if they ended with pairs on Sunday at SkAm, then I could fly home Sunday afternoon.

Just quickly glancing at these, I think I’m most surprised to see China sending a team. I got the impression they weren’t really planning to do anything after the Olympics and it’s still quite hard to get in and out of China. Though I realize they could end up withdrawing.
Also, I love that many who are new to the GP are going to get spots this year! And, it looks like K/F have the chance to add some medals to their collection this year. I know we’ve discussed, but the pairs field is really depleted.
Interesting too, that most of the top women from World’s are planning to compete again. It feels like that is normally the discipline with the most turnover. Can’t wait for October!

I'm a little disappointed that Camden Pulkinen will be at Skate Canada instead of Skate America. Overall prefer the men's lineup in Canada to that in Norwood, but that's just my personal preference. Women's lineup at SA, on the other hand, is much to my liking, especially with Sakamoto, Lee, and Park in the field.

I am SO relieved and excited that Peng/Jin are continuing!! This could be their season to finally medal at Worlds!! And of course excited to see Knierim/Frazier as well.

The dance rosters look so strong ... can't wait to see this year's events in dance. Very happy that the Browns are moving up and that so many U.S. teams got spots!

P.S. So it looks like the Skate America TBA dance spot will likely(?) be between Bratti/Somerville, Cesanek/Yehorov, and Pate/Bye, as they are the U.S. dance teams with just one assignment.

NHK has a TBD for Japan in dance? Why wouldn't they just put K/K there? M/T already have a spot there -- who the heck else does Japan have in dance?
🤷‍♀️I assume Komatsubara & Koleto will be written in for that spot since they don't have a second berth anywhere else.

Japan had Fukase & Cho (who could maybe have earned whatever Japan's internal score requirement is for a TBA); but I don't know if they are still together. They aren't on the entry list for the Quebec summer event, which is where I would have expected to see them. They pulled out of Japanese Nationals last year, but the teams training in Canada didn't travel due to covid. If F&C are still together, it wouldn't have hurt NHK to set aside a third spot for now.

Hope Queen Kaori wins everything.

First blush review - lots of skaters who weren't seeded got just one invitation on the first go-round, very few got a 2nd invitation -

Men with 2 (Uno, Kagiyama, Kvitelashvili, Pulkinen, Tomono, Grassl, Siao Him Fa, Malinin, Rizzo, Aymoz, Sadovsky, Vasiljevs - seeded), Chiu, M Selevko, Cha, Gogolev, Messing, Jin, Ma, Shaidorov, Sato, Tsuboi

Women with 2 (Sakamoto, Hendrickx, You, Gubanova, Lee, Ryabova, Schott, Higuchi, Schizas, Kurakova, Mikutina, Kawabe - seeded), Matsuike, Glenn, Levito, Petrokina, Thorngren, Kihira, Y. Kim, Shin, Mihara, Tennell

Pairs with 2 (Knierim/Frazier, Miura/Kihara, Safina/Berulava, Walsh/Michaud, Kovalev/Kovalev, Danilova/Tsiba - seeded), Golubeva/Giotopoulos Moore (yay!!!!), Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps, Smirnova/Siianytsia, McIntosh/Mimar, Zukova/Bidar, Conti/Macii, Chan/Howe, McBeath/Bartholomay, Peng/Jin, Hocke/Kunkel, Ghilardi/Ambrosini, Matte/Ferland, Metelkina/Parkman (yay!!!)

Dance with 2 (Chock/Bates, Guignard/Fabbri, Gilles/Poirier, Fear/Gibson, Hawayek/Baker, Fournier Beaudry/Sorensen, Reed/Ambrulevicius, Lajoie/Lagha, Turkkila/Versluis, Taschlerova/Taschler - seeded), Soucisse/Firus, DeMougeot/Le Mercier, Muramoto/Takahashi, Nazarova/Nikitin (yay!!!), Green/Parsons, Lopareva/Brissaud, Wolfkostin/Chen, Brown/Brown, Carreira/Ponomarenko, Wang/Liu, Orihara/Pirinen

More than a little shocked that Komatsubara/Koleto and Kazakova/Reviya only received one GP assignment on the initial list!

The rest of the assignments - it seems pretty clear that the GP hosts were determined to invite as many skaters from as many countries as possible to at least one GP rather than hog them for either their own skaters or even give skaters who just missed the WS/SB Top 24 lists or Jr Worlds medalists two assignments right away (Levandi is the only one in all 4 disciplines who didn't get 2 right away).

Also, I was right about the decision to move skaters up to seeded status if skaters who finished ahead of them opted out of the GP or outright retired this season (ie - Vasiljevs, Kurakova, Mikutina, Kawabe, Turkkila/Versluis & Taschlerova/Taschler all got 2 assignments and only Vasiljevs, Kurakova & Turkkila/Versluis were WS/SB Top 24).

ETA - and I was wrong about the GP hosts potentially inviting the RUS & BLR skaters who were WS/SB Top 24 on the initial assignments and then replacing them later - not sad about this because I really like seeing all of these skaters from so many smaller feds with assignments!

YES, thank you, Fukase and Cho. I knew there was another Japanese team somewhere, but we haven't seen them in ages, so I didn't know if they were still on the scene.

Loving the Skate American Dance roster - Voidy Frenchies, the start of Chock & Bates' World Title Campaign, Nazarova & Nikitin, Muramoto & Takahashi, and then the possibilty of Ambrulevicius in an open shirt!
Ugh between that and Donovan, Kaori, and the first big Yuma/Ilia showdown, I'm so sad I'm still not traveling (yes, some of us still have to avoid big groups for pandemic reasons).

Dang! Levito, Malinin, Chock/Bates, Knieriem/Frazier and many more! It may be worth missing a Sunday afternoon home game of my NFL team, especially since I am flying to Tampa to see them on the road the week afterwards. Fortunately, Southwest has lots of flights to both Providence RI (much more convenient than Logan, especially with Norwood being south of Boston) and Tampa FL. I am amazed that there aren't even any scattered single tickets remaining at SC Boston outside of the corners and endzone, but I assume every seat there will be excellent since it's such an intimate arena. I would be renting a car anyway and can be flexible to stay 10-15 miles outside of Norwood (there is parking there, right?), but this looks like a fabulous way to kick off the 2022-23 skating season.
