Since I had seen just one movie this year (Belfast), I skipped the Oscars but looked up the winners list later. Very happy to see Jessica Chastain finally win the Oscar. Will Smith too. I added their movies to my Netflix list. Coda is not available. I had read about Dube earlier and it gave me the impression that there was a lot of violence in it. I may still rent it because at home I can fast forward through violent scenes.

I missed all the drama. I did not know about Jada’s alopecia so I don’t know why we should expect Chris to know. Probably not wise to joke about hair, especially about WOC, but definitely not violence worthy. Makes me wonder if there isn’t more to this story, passion/jealousy/ego.

I do enjoy a good Hollywood weenie roast: Please next year have Ricky Gervais host. Please, please, please.... I am am now so glad that Benedict did not win on this night. He will have other chances and hopefully better ceremonies.

I really wanted Andrew Garfield to win because I adored his performance in Tick Tick Boom. Other than that, I’m happy with Supporting Actor and Best Picture. Enjoyed Coda a lot. Unless I’m invited to an Oscars party, I doubt I will ever watch the show again.

Another year with effectively no surprises as far as the winners go in any of the categories. Once SAG results were in, that pretty much wrapped up the acting gigs, and Writer's and Director's Guild were pretty accurate too.

Yeah unlike last year where things were a little more chaotic…like how SAG went 0/4 last year. I’m starting to think we need more precursors to off-set the guilds now. And we may need the golden globes so all the crazy shenanigans can happen there like dress rehearsal.

Here's a clip:

ETA: The weird thing is that it looks like Will initially laughed at the joke. (Jada did not.)
It did look like he laughed, but maybe he was still laughing at the last joke or it was "uh ha huh" awkward laugh until he realized what Chris just said.

Apparently Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry grabbed him at the commercial break and calmed him down. That is when Denzel said "At your highest moment…be careful. That’s when the DEVIL comes for you!"

Happy that Halifax director Ben Proudfoot won for Queen of Basketball not just because he is from Nova Scotia but because it is a great film.

Here's Queen of Basketball https://youtu.be/vPFkcoTfr7g
I remember Lusia (pronounced Lucy, apparently) Harris during her dominance at Delta State. What a wonderful tribute to her that the makers and producers of this film (including Shaquille O'Neal and Steph Curry) have given to all of us - sadly not during her lifetime. :(

We saw Belfast. Good not great. I left Power of Dog halfway through, DH saw Nightmare Alley and thought it strange, not great. CODA seemed to me to be Oscar bait from the get-go.

Spielberg’s WSS is a film worthy of Best Picture. Encantro is enchanting. Spider-Man was a terrific superhero movie. That’s it for me last year.

(We STILL haven’t seen Dune and hope it comes back to theaters now.)

That truly was one of the worst Oscar shows, at least since James Franco.

I watched Power of the Dog but found it very sad/depressing.
CODA sounds interesting to me though.

This article gives more context to Will Smith’s reactions:

It may give more context, but it still doesn't excuse what he did. Complete overreaction. And his "apology" was pretty lame also.
