This being Hollywood, a GOLDEN opportunity is never missed to virtue signal its woke credentials. Apparently, they couldn't get Sharon to come along to present the main award, so this year they have settled upon a plant based vegan meal. Lorenzo Soria, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, states: "The climate crisis is impossible to ignore and after speaking with our peers, and friends in the community, we felt challenged to do better." Well, in line with those sentiments, Lorenzo has lined up a 3 COURSE MEAL consisting of for starters, an appetizer of chilled golden beet soup. Then, there’s a main course of King Oyster Mushroom scallops. The entrée is accompanied with wild mushroom risotto, Brussels sprouts, globe carrots, and pea tendrils. For dessert, there’s a vegan opera dome with praline Gunaja crumble and caramelized hazelnuts 😋 :cheer:

However, the virtue signalling does not stop there. There will also be a reusable red carpet and paper drinking straws. Single-use plastic will be banned, with water poured from glass bottles (y):cheer2:

So, as all Golden Globes followers will be aware, guests usually round off the night by tucking into a burger from the fast food chain, In-N-Out. Has that been banned this year.....??? Well, um um er...no it hasn't!

And this being the Hollywood Foreign Press Association awards, will all those coming in from abroad be following Sharon's example in crossing the ocean in a zero carbon sailboat? Well, um actually.....um....er.....well.... er NO! Most of them are travelling over by commercial aircraft.........! o_O :duh: :yikes: :scream: :fragile:

Oh well, at least there's the virtue signalling, even if the example set is of the 'do as I say, not as i do' variety :saint:

Enjoy the burger at In-N-Out guys!! :watch: :slinkaway

But have any of the out of town nominees/presenters/etc. decided not to fly in their private jet, or not to fly commercial, and instead opted to arrive in a horse-driven carriage? :p

I hope that a few people will be taking the bus from the hills of Hollywood to the hills of Beverly. If it were the oscars, they could take the subway! I will say though, sarcasm aside, that meal sounds good, I'd try it!

I was reminded, during some of the pre-event coverage, of the time that I happened to actually be staying at the host hotel during the Golden Globes - it was, I believe, January 1989, and my late mother and I had just completed a cruise that took us through the Panama Canal. I remember standing in the hotel lobby & watching other folks "collecting autographs" from those arriving - they were very organized and had stacks of photos that they went through expertly to get out the right one for signing. Wow - that's a long time ago....

I hope Leo wins a GG this year. Not because Eddie doesn't deserve it and Eddie isn't amazing and the funniest person ever. But Leo always gets awarded for performances that aren't good and not awarded for his truly great performances. He didn't win for What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Django Unchained, The Departed, and did win for Revenant.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood had some of his best acting so of course he won't win going by the pattern.

Thus far my favourite dress I've seen is Ana de Armas. Simple and classic, but oh so sparkly! Also surprising that Elton was the subdued one, with his hubby being flashy.

Unfortunately don't love Jennifer Lopez' dress. Looks like a Christmas present.

ETA Also love Saoirse Ronan's dress. Looks like fashionable chainmail.

Anyone else kind of hoping that Patricia Arquette wins tonight, if only to hear what kind of speech she has planned?

When I saw Brad Pitt, I kind of thought ht was Kurt Russell at first, because of the hair.

I'm wondering what the red carpet trend will be this year. Last year through the year it seemed to be what's been referred to as "Sexy Tootsie".

Ana de Armas and her dog, Elvis
ETA: I already mentioned I love Ana's dress, but I especially love how the sequins make it seem like it's got twinkle lights in it.

Goodness, for someone nominated for a major award for his first ever (and only!) acting role, Roman Griffith Davis (JoJo Rabbit) is so well spoken and mature!

Is Elton injured? He was kind of hobbling a little bit.
And I don't think I've ever seen Bernie Taupin before. (And speaking of Bernie, where the hell are Jamie Bell's nominations for Rocketman?)
Also, love that while accepting his first major American award, Stellan Skarsgard spends his speech talking about eyebrows.

As Brian Cox approached the stage, I had to chuckle at him walking past Jason Momoa, Momoa-ing harder than ever, sitting there in a tank top.

And I guess I need to watch Succession, which I've heard of for a couple years, but have never gotten around to watching.

Also, as Missing Link won animated film, I think they were as genuinely shocked as Olivia Colman was when she won her Oscar. Though it got good reviews, it was a huge box office flop, so I'm wondering if Frozen 2 and Toy Story 4 split the votes?

Laura Dern has been picking up some real momentum. Jennifer Lopez was at one point considered the front runner for Supporting Actress. I guess we'll have to wait for the next awards to see if Laura Dern is the full on favourite now.

I thought if anything, this would be the one Jennifer would win, since the Globes tend to be a popularity award (see RDJ winning for Sherlock Holmes, Johnny Depp being nominated for The Tourist, etc...). I wasn't that impressed with Hustlers, but she was the best part of the movie.

I never knew that Elton and Bernie had never won an award together before, not even a Grammy? Wow!
And I still need to see JoJo Rabbit. I've been wanting to see it since I first heard about it, but haven't managed to yet.

Can Olivia Colman please just say speeches at every awards show, even if she isn't nominated? She's the most adorable person ever.
And Patricia Arquette should get time to speak at every show when there's something terrible happening in the world.

Also, I like Zoe Kravitz' polka dots.

I loved Hustlers personally, Jennifer Lopez was absolutely the best part of it.

I want to see JoJo Rabbit so badly but it never made it here so I'm waiting for the home release now.

Olivia Colman giving speeches is always the best.

I love Tom Hanks. I also love the references to That Thing You Do. I find it perfect, but also kind of random that Charlize was the one to present to him.

Looked up Olivia Colman, and forgot about her win for The Night Manager. That was an amazing miniseries. I had heard that there was potential for a second season (though there's no more source material) and think that would be amazing. She, Tom Hiddleston, and Hugh Laurie were all brilliant in that.

Also, randomly, I want to be Helen Mirren when I grow up. Or right now.
