Disappointing to still see so many empty seats in one of the smallest stadiums to ever hold the championships in the most dominant country in athletics.

That’s because Eugene, OR - among other things - isn’t a cost effective or efficient place to travel to (especially for flights). And I’ve heard that hotel capacity is horrendous.

Keep in mind that the University of Oregon spent $270 million to remodel Hayward Field. And this stadium is just for track & field. Not football or any other sport so you can host lots of other sporting events. And make $$$$ 🙄

I’m excited that the 🇺🇸 is hosting a world championships, but it really should have been at an actual city.

Interestingly with Eugene, the local landmark is the track itself. Besides the Prefontaine Trail which may be too small for the event, the other is probably the Nike Store. I shopped at that Walmart on my last trip to the US last summer, heh. I might check out the marathon to revisit my trip.
 
When did they start this whole thing with the computer??! I don't remember this thing from Tokyo and it just doesn't seem fair, especially when it's that small of a variance. Poor Devon. :fragile: :eek:
 
If they can't get Hayward Field to capacity on the night Devon Allen was racing, then nothing's gonna fill that stadium this week. Just sayin'....

Meanwhile, I'm glad I just woke up and missed him false starting because that breaks my heart for him.

I’m still upset about what happened to Devon Allen. Especially with all that happened with his dad passing away. And I’m not convinced that he’s going to stay on the Eagles’ roster for very long.

Really looking forward to the men’s 1500m and 400m hurdles finals tonight.

Maybe. Right now, I would put more money on Abby Steiner 🇺🇸 being a star in 2024.

Geez Femke Bol could have taken a call and done an interview in her race. She looked so relaxed. Impressive.
 
Not a good session for Norway, Jakob Ingebrigtsen lost to Jake Wightman in the 1500m Final, what a race from the brit!! I heard Jakob is now training by his own? well it was his decision then. He looked disappointed. Bronze medal for Spain with Mohamed Katir.

And later Karsten Warholm could not end better than 7th place in the 400m Hurdles, Alison Dos Santos from Brazil won with a new Championship Record! silver again for Rai Benjamin, bronze for Trevor Bassit (USA) who edged out the french guy in the photo finish! France is joining the party in this incredible deep field the 400m hurdles is shaping going into Paris 2024

Kristian Cseh from Slovenia got another Championship Record in the Discus Throw to take gold for Slovenia, Lithuania got silver and bronze medal. The son of the great discus thrower Virgilijus Alekna got the silver medal in what it seems like his first ever senior competition.

Australia won gold in Women's High Jump, pre-favourite Mahuchikh from Ukraine ended second in a sub-par performance given her status as World's number 1 rank. Bronze for Italy.

Finals set for Men's and women's 200m, Fred Kerley did not advance to the final 8 but the US is en route to another 1-2-3 with Noah Lyles and Erriyon Knighton + Kenny Bednarek (silver in Tokyo) Jamaica also looking good for the 1-2-3 in the ladies side but Abby Steiner could sneak in the podium though she did not look that sharp during her semifinal race. Defending world champion Dina Asher Smith can also threat the podium.

Yes. The London Championships were amazing. I went to the World Champs when they were in Paris as well back in the day and it was packed too!
