lol - a couple of days ago the Taschlers were listed as withdrawn and now Kazakova/Reviya are also listed as withdrawn. Four men wound up withdrawing between the draw on Tuesday and the SP earlier today. At least all 7 of the pairs teams are still listed as competing.

This is one foggy rink, or a really bad camera. Probably a combination of both, lol.

Caldara/Maglio ITA - oh, nice triple twist to start off with! SBS 2As are clean. I think she two-footed the landing on the throw, but it looked like a triple. Decent lift. I think this is only their 2nd comp of the season - they competed at the non-Challenger pairs part of Lombardia, so I don't remember much about them since that feed was questionable for the SP. They should be decent at their GPs, but probably not on the podium with that TES. Nice score! 59.53

Faula/Belle FRA - let's see if they look any better than they did at French Masters a couple weeks ago. Double twist - not much height. Ohhhh, SBS 3Ts! Wow! Huge triple throw! And just as I was going to wonder if the FFSG might be regretting pulling them from GPdF, she goes and falls on her spin, lol. He needs more work on his feet in that lift. But, I suppose, they should be sent to both Warsaw Cup and Golden Spin to see if they can get on the SB list for this season - that will get them on the GP next year and they have some potential to be good enough in another year. 39.78 - yeah, that'll happen when you biff a spin and invalidate the element, plus have a base level lift.

Gamez/Korovin PHI - hoping for better luck than Finlandia for them! Teensy bit crashy on 3tw. She fell out of her SBS jump. And stepped out of the throw, but it was huge. That lift was weird and he just lost the freakin' pivot on the death spiral. Sigh. Their SBS spins need work, but lots of things about this team still need work. They are much faster across the ice than Caldara/Maglio, I will say that. Gonna be close to see if they got the 4CCs/Euros TES min, I think with the death spiral error. 48.32 - and they got the TES min!!!! Woohooo!!!!

ETA - now, onto tomorrow where they aim for the TES min in the FS! They were less than a point off of it at Finlandia, so I think they can get it here. Generous, minor senior B competition and all that, lol.

Vouillamoz/Giniaux FRA - fresh off being 1st alternate qualifier to the JGPF and first senior int'l. Airy double twist. He fell on their SBS jumps. Nice triple throw! Oh, he didn't lose the pivot on the death spiral. SBS spins are a bit out of synch to start, but end nicely. Slow on the footwork compared to Gamez/Korovin who set the bar on that element so far, IMO. Good lift. This should easily get them their Euros/4CCs TES min. Now, this team is ready for Warsaw Cup and getting on the senior SB list for GPs next season. 52.30 And the Worlds TES min!

Smart/Mattick GBR - another team seeking some TES mins... double twist - not bad, and she fell on their SBS jumps. Well, that lift wasn't as scary as they've done in past comps. Oh! She stood up on their throw! I think it was a triple too! I'd managed to purge this emo California Dreamin' they're using for the SP, but if they manage to get the Worlds TES min somehow (not today, I don't think), I'm gonna have to listen to it at least once more this season. Those SBS spins... But, then, I'm always complaining about the lack of synchronization on SBS spins, lol. The little element review screen confirms it was a throw 3Lo - good for them! I'm thinking they did just manage the Euros/4CCs TES min here, not that it matters since GBR only has one Euros spot and they need the Worlds TES min to get to an ISU championship this season, lol. 42.16 - yeowch - no TES mins still.

Keriven/Bouvart FRA - oh, interesting, they start out with the lift - well, he got through it. And she fell on their SBS jumps. They've got a lot of speed - comparable to the best ones so far, GamKor - hand down from her on the throw. Eeeesh - double twist that was really low. He needs a lot more time and work on the pairs elements, but I really like their speed and look - more potential with them than with Faula/Belle, I think. No synchronization on their SBS spins - like at all, lol. I don't think this is enough for TES mins - the real battle is to see who comes out on top between them and Faula/Belle. Of course, neither will be competing for the podium at French Nationals. 40.57 - less than a point ahead of FauBel!

Schaller/Mayr AUT - last team of the competition! - Double twist - okay-ish. Ugh - and she's down on their SBS jumps. :( Good lift! Double throw, nice position in their basic death spiral. Not bad on the SBS spins. Slow on the footwork. This is gonna be close for the Euros/4CCs TES min, I think. If she'd managed to stand up on the SBS jumps, they'd be fine, but I think her fall as well as the fact that they're only doing doubles on the twist and throw are going to keep them below it. They still have Warsaw Cup and Golden Spin to get it though. 43.12 overall - yeah, no, just missed the Euros/4CCs TES min by 1.05.

LOL - 3 women withdrew before the SP today, so they're down to 12 men, 10 dance teams, and 20 women, but we've still got 7 pairs! Warm up group 1 (Faula/Belle, Keriven/Bouvart, Smart/Mattick) is on the ice!

Faula/Belle FRA - double twist to open - nice; good 2t-2ts and the feed freezes... I missed a good minute... Fall on their 2nd SBS jumping pass, she fell on her 2nd throw. Base level DS - I think he managed one revolution, maybe. I only saw two overhead lifts, so I think I missed one during the feed freeze. Yes, elements review on screen shows I missed their first lift. Oh, the DS got a level 1! This team needs a LOT more work. I'd hold off sending them out to compete again internationally until at least Golden Spin, probably.

Warm up group 1 (Faula/Belle, Keriven/Bouvart, Smart/Mattick) is on the ice!

I came across the Senior Pairs SP from the fake Russian GP so I'm watching the current group out of curiosity. T/M are the headliners of this event, but Roman Pleshkov's new partner, Daria Boyarintsova, looks like Mozer put her in a cloning machine to stylize her exactly like Evgenia Tarasova. I'm pretty sure this is on purpose as Mozer is actually here unlike usual. I'll switch back to Trophee Metropole for the second group, but I got distracted by the Russian pettiness and now it's Habibulina/Knyazuk's turn and I actually kinda like them.

Keriven/Bouvart FRA - light double twist, oooo triples on their SBS jumps! Huge triple throw clean! He seems more secure in the lifts than a couple weeks ago, but that could be deceptive video; nice DS. Ouch - down hard on the 2nd throw. Oh, there was another video freeze, so I missed their second SBS jumping pass. This pairs spin is dire and slow, exit was a bit clunky but could be interesting with a bit more work. Like Faula/Belle - keep them working and maybe aim for Golden Spin.

What's it say about FSU's opinion of Russian skating these days that we don't even have a fake Russian GP discussion thread in the general KnC forum? I get it though - I'd be tempted to watch if I wasn't so intent on ignoring Russians.

Smart/Mattick GBR - double twist (the story of these first 4 teams, for sure); SBS 2As - she stepped out of hers and I missed what they followed them with (a second 2A, IIRC from Tayside last week). Best lift they've got looked nice. Down on the first throw. Doubles for their 2nd SBS jumping pass. Lifts do seem to be getting smoother... Nice DS. Oh! She stayed upright for the 2nd throw - it was a triple! Oy - they nearly fell during the little hop they have in the pairs spin - that's gonna get negative GOE for sure, lol.

FS - 76.67
Overall - 118.03

BTW - none of these first three teams got TES mins for anything...

I can't even find a full roster or a results link for this thing, just Sports Express articles after the individual events are finished. I needed a pairs palate cleanser after the day I had yesterday. As I said, I got lured in by the coach pettiness and all the younger pairs got alllllllll up in T/M's business during the warmup. T/M got an 86.06 in their SP. They were clean but holy nationalistic judging batman  Pairs were apparently the last event of the day but I'm not gonna rewind the video. Back to white-knuckling it thru Trophee Metropole:lol:

edit: nope, men are next. Nah. Nevermind. I'll stick to Metropole. I can see trainwrecks from any country.

I reloaded the stream and was rewarded a cover of Voices Carry that was both boring AND twee, somehow. Lord that was terrible, are they actually an Ontario pairs team or something?? (Maybe not, Miriam Ziegler is with them in the knc)

Schaller/Mayr AUT - double twist; he stepped out of his 3T but stayed up, so they got the 2Ts done; and they both did nice SBS 3S! Really, they just need to land the SBS jumps in the SP and they'll get the Euros/4CCs TES min easily, even with doubles on the throws and twists right now. That was nice. I'm really impressed with the work Severin Kiefer's doing with them. I'd send them to both Warsaw Cup and Golden Spin to try and get that SP TES min they need. They got the Worlds FS TES min last week at Tayside Trophy on their first outing.

Gamez/Korovin PHI - Good Lord, he's practically tripping all over himself in their opening footwork! Lovely triple twist to start! They went for clean double-doubles on their opening SBS jumps. Wise, since they're aiming for the 4CCs/Euros TES min. But 1As on their 2nd SBS jumping pass. Okay, that's a really nice, solid lift. Wooo! Throw triple clean! Oh, very unique exit from their pairs spin! And she went down on the 2nd throw. :( This next lift almost went up a bit sketchy, but it was fine in the end. The audience clearly likes their lifts - lots of cheers for the last one too. Hey, lookie there, he held his pivot for the DS to end! Well, hopefully this will get them their TES min so that we have at least ten pairs at 4CCs (3 US, 3 CAN, 2 JPN, 1 CHN). Looking over the elements review, it's gonna be close...

FS - 95.22
Overall - 143.54

Yes!!!! 47.73 TES! Less than a quarter point from the Worlds FS TES min and they're booked for Colorado Springs in February!

Oh, and they also medal here!

Vouillamoz/Giniaux FRA - they showed some promise on the JGP - beautiful double twist to open; SBS 2A+2A - he fell out of the 2nd one. And she's down on the first throw - huge air. Ooooo, she HOLDS onto the landing on that 2nd throw come hell or high water, lol. 2T on their 2nd SBS jumps. Clunky lift exit. Decent DS into their pairs spin, but a bit clunky in the transitions and exit. Bruno needs to address this with them. They had a 9 pt lead over Schaller/Mayr from the FS, so I expect they'll remain on the podium, but this was an underwhelming program. And she knows it. She kind of drops her head before hugging him at the end, lol. It should be enough for the Euros/4CCs TES min, maybe even the Worlds TES min, who knows?

FS - 91.08
Overall - 143.38

Got the Euros/4CCs TES min! And into 2nd for now behind GamKor!
