2015 - 2016 TV Season

Minority Report was AWFUL. There are some quite talented actors amongst the cast, but with the :blah: script and horrific direction, they are lost. And has Wilmer Valderrama always been this unintelligible?

Adding: The Walking Dead returns on October 12.
The next season of Homeland premiers on Oct. 4th, Showtime just announced.

I saw Minority Report and Blindspot and liked them well enough but not over excited. I also saw Gatham and not happy with where they are taking the James Gordon character but I'll just go with
it for now. LOL

Blindspot = Total Recall 2?

That plus a weird mix in of Kyle XY (which I think Jamie Alexander was in) and Prison Break. I know Blindspot is advertised with hype - but I'm not feeling it.

Count me as another who was excited about Gotham last season but hated it too much after the fifth episode.

All in all a pretty good night of TV.

I quite liked Blindspot, despite the completely wooden Kurt character. But I liked Jane and all the supporting characters enough to keep watching. For now anyway -- I saw a few seconds of the tease for next week and it was "I've unlocked another tattoo." That could get old fast.

I didn't think Minority Report was awful ... but it wasn't great either. Not that I had high expectations. I doubt I'll bother with that one.

Life in Pieces was pretty good, despite the Modern Family ripoff. I LOLed more than once, in the segment with the segment with Colin Hanks (who I'm sure I'll eventually get over being freaked out by how much he looks like his father). Anyway I'll tune in to that one again.

I also watched The Muppets, since in Canada it's on City on Monday nights. They definitely used all the best lines in that trailer that was out months ago, but the show overall was still pretty good. Not quite as ROFL funny as I was expecting, but definitely worth watching.

I thought The Muppets was watchable. For the most part. The best part was Miss Piggy explaining to Kermit why she was upset...I wasn't expecting the best part of the show to be a dramatic moment. I'll watch it again next week, but I'm not expecting it to get funnier, so that will probably be the last time I watch it.

Life In Pieces - thought it was a comedy, but it's a dramedy. Without any laughs. :( Incredible cast, adequate script...but a script that just barely gets a passing grade. There's too many quality program out there for one to give this a second viewing.

Scream Queens...I have a lot of mixed feelings about this one. AMAZING cast and the sharp editing was so spot-on. Also loved hearing so many of the older pop songs that radio hasn't been playing (but should!!). But the tone is too one-note, most specifically in Emma Roberts performance (which is also pretty much the same characterization she used in American Horror Story: Coven...but much better there). For this, I definitely blame the director. That quick-pace of story and speedy, sharply delivered dialogue is just too much to take for an extended period of time. It didn't help that they aired two episodes of that back-to-back. I think future episodes will be more of the same, so I won't be tuning in. Which is a shame because with such a large cast of talented actors, I'll be missing out on people who need to be seen a lot more than they have been.

I watched Scream Queens as well, Emma Roberts character is essentially Madison from Coven, there is almost no difference between the characters. While I enjoyed Scream Queens, it felt very much like a been here, done this already. It felt like a fusion of AHS Murder House and Glee, without the music, set in a Sorority House. I never watched Popular but from what I know of it, that is probably mixed in as well. IMO this should have been a movie not a TV series, I don't see this storyline being sustainable for an entire television season, even a 12 episode AHS Style season. They put in two episodes what essentially should have been in probably 4-6. They also should have put this on over the Spring/Summer, to tide us over until AHS returned, and not so close to the real thing, since it is too similar, even with the comic element added.

One major plus was a lot of shirtless men and men in underwear. That alone made it worth it for me

So far I've sampled Blindspot, Muppets & Life in Pieces

I'm a sucker for mystery-type shows, so I'll keep watching Blindspot. It appears like it will be a "tatoo of the week" type procedural, with an overall arc about who this woman is and why she was picked for this. A pretty standard formula, but I'll keep following it for now. I could have done with a more grounded actor to play the male FBI agent rather than the wooden, blue-eyed "picked because he's handsome" actor. It lacks the humor that Blacklist brings simply because James Spader is so amusing. They should have written and cast an actor that can display wry humor in dark situations. Hopefully they'll show some moments of levity to break up all the "let's save the world" seriousness. (P.S. - FBI safe houses are butt ugly)

I'm meh about Life in Pieces. Love the cast, but I found it uneven. I'm not sure I like the idea of 4 mini-stories in one 22 minute episode with a kicker at the end to bring them all together. I guess that's the Modern Family formula, but it felt jarring with this show. I'll still catch a few more episodes to see if it settles in.

I didn't HATE the Muppets, nor did I LOVE the Muppets. I expected to smile, but not LOL - and that's pretty much what it delivered. I do miss the variety show format of the original Muppet Show, but understand that this was never intended to be that type of show. I like seeing them back on TV, so I'll stick with it.

I was underwhelmed by The Muppets. Still loving The Late Show with Stephen Cobert. He's having so much fun and it really moves. I actually think he's better than Letterman was in the last 10 years when I felt he was phoning it in.

Watched Best Time Ever for the second week. They REALLY need to drop the "guest announcer". Just have the same person like the last night shows do. I also don't get the "Lil NPH" - is that boy just going to be a prop?

I agree that Colbert is better than recent Letterman. The show does really move, but I still think it moves a little too much. He's calmed down a little, but it's still a bit too frantic for me, and he's sometimes still a little too eager in his interviews. He's gotten better, though. In some ways, he'd dialing it back a little too much for my taste in the interviews. I would have liked him to call out Cruz even more the other night when Cruz was very disingenuously and incorrectly saying that it as not the place for the Supreme Court to rule on whether denying gay people marriage rights was constitutional. But, I thought Colbert's interview of Trump was very smart. Trump thrives on bold confrontation. I think Trump barely understood the ways in which Colbert was mocking him and exposing his lack of substance.

The Hunger Games parodies are very entertaining. We'll obviously get to see a lot more of those.

I'm sort of excited to see Heroes Reborn. I hope the writing and plotline is a bit more cohesive this time around. Anyone else?

I have 3 new shows I am looking forward to this year.
1. Fear The Walking Dead :cheer2:
2. Heroes Reborn :cheer2:
3. Supergirl :cheer2:

Only thing is, Heroes Reborn will have some tough competition on Thursday at 8:00 pm.

I thought Limitless was really good. Great cast, story that moves at a nice pace. Cameo from Bradley Cooper. And an uber-hot lead. :swoon: Not sure if they'll be able to sustain this story through many episodes/seasons, but I'm going to be tuning in next week, anyway.

wanted this show to be better. It's essentially lamelamelame. Didn't bother with the entire episode. Won't be watching again.
On the other hand, new Heroes is awesome. Also awesomely complex. The part in Japan where the girl goes into the video game...amazing!

Loved the new Heroes except for the video game part, and the whole "Underground Railroad" thing doesn't make much sense to me. But I will definitely keep watching. :)

I mostly enjoyed it as well, although what annoyed me the most was the flipping back and forth in time. It is bad enough that they are flipping around between storylines, nevermind adding time to the mix!
Based on what was said, I think the underground railroad is exactly what it says it is - simply the "modern" version of it. The priest mentioned taking the people hiding in the "safe room" from there on to their next stop on the way to Canada. It sounds very much like the original/real underground railroad that those who were subjected to slavery used to escape to Canada in the 1800s.
