^ Ditto for me on all 3 counts.

I wish I got the channel that's carrying Craig Ferguson's show, though. I love him. I'll have to hunt around for another way to watch.

Who else is excited to watch Stephen Colbert debut The Late Show tonight? I believe the guests will be George Clooney and Jeb Bush. The house band will be Jon Batiste and Stay Human.

Me, me, I am! (* waves hand wildly *)

I'm pretty sure I won't get my wish re: format & content, but I'm still very keen to see how Colbert does as a host when he's being himself instead of his Report persona. The guests are almost irrelevant at this point.

What are your wishes regarding format and content?

I love Colbert, and I love him the most when he's showing how cerebral and wonky he is. I think he'll show some of that, but he'll have to include a variety of types of humor to appeal to a broader audience. I do think guests matter not only because people tune in for guests, but also because part of what's so great about Colbert is that he's a very good interviewer. I wonder if he'll pull punches with Jeb. He doesn't want to start off being political because clearly he wants to expand beyond that. But, Jeb is kind of making it difficult for him. Jeb raffled off his audience ticket for tonight's show to raise money for his campaign. Colbert was not pleased, but perhaps he'll address it with Jeb with the same kind of humor he displayed when offering his own raffle:

My ideal would be lots of edgy socio-political satire -- basically a 1-hour version of the Report but with Colbert as himself instead of the faux-conservative persona. But I know that's not going to happen on network.

I watched it over my lunchtime (one of the perks of working at home :D) and thought it was pretty darned good, and with a tad more edge than I thought he'd be able to get away with. Great opening monologue and the whole Trump bit (even if it was obvious), and the Clooney interview was funny too. I felt he threw too many softballs for Bush, but I get how he's limited there.

Oh, and
a nice cameo from Jon Stewart too. Expected, but still nice they were able to work that in.

Did anyone watch the double episode of Zoo last night?

I was chanting 'kiss' at the screen every time Mitch and Jamie appeared. I feel completely satisfied now. Don't even mind what happens in the finale!

I can't wait for TLC's "Suddenly Royal" tonight at 10PM eastern. New reality show about an American dude preparing to claim the throne as King of the Isle of Man.

You're probably not going to get an entire hour like that. Not just because CBS wouldn't want that, but also because Colbert does not want that. He was an actor and an improv comedian before he ever started including politics as such a big part of what he was doing. So, I think he wants to do more than what he was doing on the Colbert Report. But, yeah, I love it when he gets into the political satire. My favorite part of last night's show was the Trump/Oreos segment. I was laughing out loud.

ETA: It will be interesting to see what Colbert does on his show when the Pope visits the U.S.: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...istian-faith-islam-pope-francis-and-more.html

In addition to any jokes he deems appropriate, I think he'll probably have the same priest friend he used to have on the Colbert Report.

I thought that was the only good part... Because it was just like The Colbert Report! Both interviews were quite lame. The fake Clooney movie looked like they made it up on the spot...it had no substance. And I don't know if Jeb Bush was a good idea for a guest for this show...the audience reaction to him was so dead. Talk about awkward. I'm going to try a few more shows, then probably give up and hope September 28th (The Daily Show With Trevor Noah) comes early or something.

Speaking of PBS, last night I caught up with the first episode of The Town which ran on my affiliate on Sunday. Excellent drama from 2012, about revisiting old secrets & wounds when a man (played by Andrew Scott) returns to his hometown on the death of his parents. I'm hooked -- and also bummed that it's only 3 episodes long.

I actually think that the two shows we've seen so far have not been as good as The Colbert Report. Part of it is that Colbert seems too overeager. He's cramming so much in and running around and interrupting interviews. It's like he's so excited he can't sit still or even take a breath. I think he's usually very good at interviews, but hasn't been nearly as good this week. The other problem is his staff. For the first show, they had to redo a couple of segments because of technical glitches. They went overtime and had to edit the show. Because of technical problems they almost didn't get the edited show to the network on time. And the editing wasn't even that good. They edited out more interesting parts of the Clooney interview to included that silly fake movie stuff. And, not that Jeb was ever going to be that interesting, but they edited out more substantive parts of the interview.

I'm sure things will get better, though. Colbert will calm down and learn the correct pacing. The staff will learn and not make the same kinds of mistakes. And they'll have some good guests and some blah guests. Trump apparently just agreed to be on the show.

But, I know that there are going to be more people who prefer Jimmy Fallon to Colbert. Different people have different senses of humor. I don't dislike Fallon at all, but he happens to be my least favorite of all the late night hosts. I generally choose what to watch based on guests and that probably will be the biggest factors for me now as well.

My problem is....I like both Fallon and Colbert. It will probably come down to what guests are on. And Youtube highlights the best segments.

I like Fallon but I hate him on The Tonight Show. I haven't seen Cobert on the Late Show yet. (My bedtime is supposed to be 9:30pm. Guess I'll be DVRing it or catching it on YouTube.)

I watched the fall previews for ABC, NBC, and, CW. My thoughts

Quantico: This surprised me. I thought it'd be likes Grey's but the mystery as to who

blew up Grand Central has me very interested. They are laying it on so thick that it's the Muslim character that it can't be her. I think it is one of the teachers to be honest

Blindspot: this is a procedural with another mystery. Wasn't too sold on Jaimie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton can't act

Containment: The fact that people were coughing in the theater was enough to freak me out. That's how well they set up the story. I am not really sold on any of the characters though.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend-funny moments marred by an unlikeable lead.

Blood and Oil: bleh. That's all I will say

Dr. Ken: I used that time to get a drink and go to the bathroom. Your typical family sitcom but with Asians. Fresh Off The Boat is much funnier

Truth Be Told: not funny.

Woo hooo!!! The new TV Season is starting up this month!! My favorite time of year!!!

Me too!

I'm interested in NPH's show, that could be fun. But of course the highlight of the week will be Doctor Who.

BTW, the Doctor Who season premier will also be shown on the big screen on Sunday, along with a recap from season 8. I'm toying with the idea of going. Here's the info for Cineplex in Canada, not sure who's doing it in the US:
