For the men's short - scheduling for Groups 3 and 4 are sort of TTW...right now it's showing 5 skaters in group 3 and 7 skaters in Group 4. Busy warmup for 4?

How did UnknownKid managed to get that high in the starting order?? His ISU Bio chart is literally a blank slate.

#BetterKnownEachDay

His UnknownKid status is only in comparison with other Russians... compared to the people who are attempting to qualify for the Olympics is another story...

Why is Nebelhorn draw done by WS? Aren't most challengers just random draw? Or is it because this is the Olympic qualifier, they are trying to give the more famous skaters a leg up to qualifying?

Untrue. He is completely an unknown kid to yours truly, and I watch the JGP & the CS & read the Team Trainwreck thread!! (Albeit spottily, but seriously, who is ever unknown in the Team Trainwreck thread? The TTW thread is full of posts glorifying the . . . lesser known).

Of course, we all know that the reason said person has been assigned to Nebelhorn is because a certain healthy percentage of the better known Russian men are particularly well known in the TTW thread.

You're new here. :)

Unknown kid burst on the scene by placing third on his debut at Russian Nationals (when boss inexplicably had better things to do than watch). He has never skated at a Junior Grand Prix, Challenger Series, Grand Prix, or ISU Championship event. IINM, everyone else in the Men's event at Nebelhorn has competed in one or more such events. It would not surprise me if the same is true of the competitors in the other three disciplines.

And I watched Russian Nationals but must confess that I only remember there was an unknown guy who medaled . . .

To be fair, my parents internet was really bad & required lots of pausing & hitting play & then pausing & waiting for the next video to load & then hitting play; plus, various folks at Russian Nationals had been sick with the crud & were out or were not really back at full strength. Anyway, probably I will remember him after Nebelhorn.

OH, porevious to nationals he was very unknown. A guy like lets say Conor Stakelum or Graham Newberry may had lower levels and discrete results but still hardcore fans had seen them around.
Anyways, The point is: his current WS points do not give him a place in the penultimate group like he's now. Basar Oktar was screwed. Or perhaps that's the reason there are 7 guys there???

That was my first thought but then again Worlds which are the doorway to 80% of the spots are done the same way so I dont see why the other qualifier should be different.

@Dobre , Unknownkid’s moment of glory last season was Channel 1 Cup when he delivered a fantastic LP and won the men’s event

Plus Trankov’s comments from K&C, Medvedeva’s tears of joy, his teammates celebrating his skate - all of that all added to the picture :)

I mean, I've been lurking for a REALLY long time, so I'm not REALLY new, perhaps I'm just #Unknown? ;)

Yeah, you guys are right, most of the people competing for the spots have been at a LOT of competitions, and just have been too low in standings to get any world standings points. Mark's points from two years ago keep him up high enough in the standings to tie with Maurizio, which I assume indeed the reason for the weirdly sized group, and poor Paul Fentz is just a few places lower.

We are the cutting edge of lesser knowns.
