2021-22 ISU Challenger Series announced

If only Finland had opened its borders for Russians :wuzrobbed
It's not open, even with two vaccines? :( I mean, the skaters get here somehow. 😅 You should be able to sneak in, too!

Ok after calming down a little :P , wow these are still some freaking fabulous entries! Now begins the annual agony of repeatedly refreshing the page and worrying about who's going to withdraw. :wuzrobbed

Can't believe we got Papadakis/Cizeron, although they're on my prime withdrawal worry list but then again, they're in Europe anyway for the Masters, right?? And it would be wise to have an international event before the GPs.

And it was just two days ago that I said I want to see L/L Rio FD so badly at FT and I'm getting it!! :cheer:

Kostornaia :swoon: Enough said

The men's list is fab, including all the AUS, MEX and PHI guys! Pairs list is absolutely fab too! This is really too good to be true.

And so many interesting early season duels, like PRLady said. :watch:

There's no schedule for the Canadian Classic which runs about the same time as the US event.

The overlaps appear to be between the US and Canada events, in the early evenings on Thurs & Friday.

For ex:

Thursday, Sept 16:

Canada: W SP at 5:50pm
versus
US: M SP at 7:25pm...I’ll switch to this if/once the above is over

Friday, Sept 17, the toughie for Women’s discipline fans:

US: W SP at 5:53pm
versus
Canada: W LP at 6:20 pm...so I’ll have to catch this on replay

No real conflicts on Saturday. Canada’s all during mid-day; US in evening.

As for JGP Krasnoyarsk: no conflicts at all with either of the N.Am. competitions. I just have to get up really early! 😴

Finlandia!!!! So many names that just made me joyful. Gubanova, Kostornaia, and Karen Chen in the same competition.

Papadakis and Cizeron!!!

I can't wait!!!

Finlandia will be great! Hopefully all the skaters/teams listed will show up, especially PapCiz, C/B StepBuk and F/G. Pairs has some great matchups too - Canadian showdown between M-T/M and J/R! B/K and M/G! C-G/L and C/J from the US! It will also be great to see how Barquero/Zandron match up with those teams (they already face off against the German teams at Nebelhorn). Lots of Aussies! Could be considered an early mini-Nats in Men, Women and Dance for them especially since their own Nats have been cancelled :( .

There are problems with the Canadian ANNOUNCEMENT schedule. It doesn't mention PAIRS, and it was probably issued before the withdrawal of so many men. So the times stated aren't reliable, which makes planning watching both the US and Canadian competitions very difficult.

Skate Canada should be updating the event page soon, one would hope before the start of the competition. I'll wait for that.

I know I won't be watching the JGP in Krasnoyarsk, as I don't plan on having 3 days of no sleep!

Apparently the schedule for Autumn Classic has been completely changed with events being switched around and start times earlier than were originally published.

It would be great if the final Autumn Classic schedule would eliminate the overlaps among the two Women’s events on Friday...I want to see both Trusova (in US) & Starr Andrews (in Canada) live!

Chelsea and Sherim are also competing as ID'ers at Nebelhorn. This is a mistake. Either Chelsea and Sherim should be in the ID section, or the other Dutch Pair will be here. However, Chelsea and Sherim often train in Finland (with Maurizio Gargaglio), so I expect it's Chelsea and Sherim who will compete here. It's around the corner so to speak.

Wang / Liu, Chen / Sun and Shan Lin are now off the ACI entry list.
So, it would seem they are pulling all their skaters from the early season comps, similar to Japan (thankfully Japan is letting their only pairs team compete still). I wonder if they'll have them compete at Asian Open Trophy.

Also, while I'm sad to see both fields reduced, I'm not as sad about the ladies since that drops the entries down to 12 and 2 flights instead of 3.

I don't get what the strategy is for China and Japan pulling or just not sending skaters to competitions this season. They are almost acting like it's last season when their wasn't a skating season but it's not the case this year and it's a Olympic year to boot.

But Japan and China are sending skaters to competitions, Miura/Kihara are at ACI, Sui/Han (and I expect the two main Chinese men) will be at Asian Open. Asian Open is probably going to see a lot of the Asian seniors who would like to stay closer to home or can't fly outside for whatever reason (I think we might see Hanyu and/or Kagiyama there, too). Japanese seniors are also going to be at GP events, though it's looking more unclear by the passing second if the Chinese ones will be sent to anything outside China.
