That's what I was trying to clarify, in a purely THEORETICAL fashion. I think the ban is only on Worlds and Olympics hosting? So they could have hosted Euros? I know they aren't going to and that Euros are cancelled. I'm just curious about whether they could have, according to the terms of the restrictions.

I don't think they could be given an ISU championship event without the ISU facing sanctions from the IOC, so it's not going to happen. That said the Russian skating federation could organize an event, and invite all the European skaters, or all skaters for that matter, to compete.

Because the Russia thread is like negotiating a toxic minefield, speculation on who Russia will send to worlds:

They've said the gold medalists are for certain, and we know they are going to use Russian Cup finals for skate offs and maybe other comps as well since Euros are out. So, who will go?

Pairs: I think B/K are for certain and the skate off (or offs) will be to select between P/K and M/G. I like both, but would love it to be P/K. (and there are going to be junior nationals and junior events so #notPolina will skate for medals.)

Ladies: Trusova is going. No way the Russians would not send her. Which means the skate off is between Tuk and Kostornaia. Which is a little sad because Nugu was the 3rd highest senior eligible skater after nationals. While, I'd go with either of the 3A ladies if I were the fed, it would be brilliant if she got an invitation. Medvedeva is a theoretical possibility, but given she did only a single jump in her exhibition, I think that is a really, really, really long shot. It will be either Tuk or Kostornaia. My hope is Tuk. The woman has the worst luck I've ever seen with regard to illness.

Men: No clue here. Aliev: depends on his health. Ignatov: you just never know. Mozelev: Boy has got to quit screwing up the SP. Gumennik: Same. Semenenko folded under pressure. #Unknown Kid stood up under pressure so who knows. The skate off(s) will be :watch:

Dance: if S/K are healthy, they go. And, I think they'll go with Z/G as well, but they may make a skate off between them and the next 3 ranked teams. I think Z/G will come out on top. If, S/K are not healthy, things get way more interesting with regard to that 3rd team. Mistakes killed Khuda and Annabelle's chances but they may get a 2nd chance.

The silver and bronze medalists will not be re-selected, but they will participate in numerous competitions (3), which the Federation has promised to organize, and the authorities will or will not include someone at their discretion. This is not being selected in the truest sense of the word.

This will ensure that all those who are selected are in a good enough shape to compete.

Once again, #TTW is the source of reliable information, while GSD is home to unsourced rumors and speculation (at best). ?‍♂️

I say that with the caveat that Federations often say one thing then do another...
As could be seen with the rule that competing in 2 Russian cup competitions was an absolute prerequisite for admission to Russian Nationals.
So take what I've said as true until we hear otherwise.

Another thing, Tiff has been told that these post Christmas competitions will be compulsory for the National team.

JPN Ladies
Kihira - ?. Program is also kinda blah, but whatever, quad Salchow!
Sakamoto - seems like she's found her groove again, and the JSF judges obviously love her. It feels like there's only one presumptively open spot on the Olympic team.
Miyahara - hmm, happy for her, not sure if I'd have had her third. But it looked like her jump rotation was cleaner than in the past, though not noticeably higher.
Matsuike - the program would already be almost sickly sweet before you throw in the music box ballerina costume and her adorable braces. 3-3-2 as the penultimate element shows scary levels of nerve.
Mihara - ouch, clearly not winning over the judges. :cheer: to see her back and happy.
Kawabe - that triple Axel is still not working, but everything else was really solid here, she seems more in control than in previous seasons.
Higuchi - :gallopin1 Also, is there any other example of a recent Worlds medalist who is so obviously the un-favourite of their federation?
Kawabata - pretty decent free skate for her, but clearly the federation (not unreasonably, sadly) has no faith in her.
Yokoi - :gallopin1 That free skate comeback after tanking the short, like clockwork.

Higuchi is the biggest puzzle among ladies skating I've ever seen. There is absolutely no way to know what will happen with her and ITA that the Japanese federation really does not seem to like her. I wonder why? They've supported skaters with much less talent for years.

I don't know that Mihara has real expectations to be on the podium, but her sheer determination to skate just makes me want to cry. I worry about her with C19 as well. People with autoimmune diseases are at a really high risk for severe complications. But, she is determined to live her life to the fullest and I cheer for her with every competition.

I had the impression Higuchi was once liked by the federation but has been so inconsistent and underperformed so many times they just gave up and dropped her. And with there being no much talent it was easy for them to do so. But maybe I'm wrong and for some reason they just don't like her

As vice already told, kibosh is coming start of next year ... so to restore order: this is still the team until then.

As I am well-fed and still in christmas mood, I might consider your new or ongoing proposals for mash-up in january.
Early thoughts:

Naumov. Hot alone might not be enough. But he can either break our hearts or @SmallFairy brings more arguments to get him in.

Telenovela. Haven't almost seen him this season, still not pregnant --> still pending

Panfilova/Rylov. Well well well. This might be your lucky punch folks ;)

Miyahara. Pmaol
Morozov/Bagin. Even my love is not big enough (for now :EVILLE:)

Gumennik. Daineko. Wings. 4 MESS entries to date. He has a lot counting :watch:

When you see PapaMorozov's reaction to their RD, Annabelle's brave effort not to cry during the post skate interview, then to come back and score 3rd highest in the FS, and the glacial reaction from Papa toward poor Bagin, your love might grow a bit. Even I felt sorry for them.

I already brought plenty of arguments for Naumov after Skate America, apart from him being totally hot, but I can bring them again. Now I’m on my phone, but stay tuned! :gallopin1

As usual, #ttw knew first.
We praised Nugu for years now!
