Lord, what annoying camera angles. Looked like a good program for Alina, though, what little we actually saw of it. Less frantic and more relaxed than last year's programs.
 the russian fans already complaining to Channel 1... but it is pointless, the operators there only have experience with filming videos for "ice age".. and that's a different animal.

Well, there was a lot of slow-mouvement filming ;) Let's hope it isn't just a camera effect and that indeed the actual choreo is less frantic. I think she could do so well with such a programme! It's exciting.

Oh, what a beautiful phrase... which i hear so often from people who want a cheap and easy ticket to the realm of "humane, kind and compassionate" status (when in life they often act very selfishly).

"Working with" is subjective, risky, gives coach very little wiggling room, and usually results in coach being blamed, if results are not positive, no matter what the coach has done or have not done.

I find your comments here to be .

"Working with" denotes support and collaboration, which is part of what coaches offer - as opposed to 'working against'.

A coaches job is to help athletes become as good as they can be and address any issues or barriers to them doing that.

So if an athlete is struggling with weight issues, a coach should help the athlete through that as best as he/she can. Which may involve dietary advice, if the coach can responsibly and knowledgably give that, or a referral to a nutritionist and maybe a sports psychologist.

It's not about "working with an athlete". Every sport has physical condition requirements. A coach needs to set a goal for such in order for an athlete to be competitive. And it is up to an athlete and his/her family to find a solution. A coach is NOT A NANNY. Because when they try to be "various forms of nannies" - they get blamed.

Again, I think that "working with an athlete" is an important part of the coaching process. So we disagree.

And while a coach is not a nanny, a coach is an authority figure, and often assumes a parental role in a skater's role. We often hear athletes say that their coaches assume such a role.

Skaters very often spend more time with their coaches than their parents, so it's fair to expect coaches - especially those who are coaching kids and teens - to take their role as an authority figure seriously.

And coaches are going to get criticized and blamed for stuff at times, regardless of what they do or don't do. Coaching is not a profession for the faint-hearted.

At the same time, some coaches (e.g. Frank Carroll, Mishin, Tarasova) have achieved a legendary status not so different from being lesser gods.

What i see lately in most "coach-skater conflict" regardless of club/country location - is "teenager gets out of line, misbehaves, disregards his/her coach and instructions - coach tries to fix it or dismisses the pupil - pupil goes public and tells a sob-story - many take skater's side - coach tells his/her side - result: coach is blamed".

Like Judge Judy used to say "when do you hear a lie? when a teenager opens his/her mouth"...

I like to believe that some teenagers are honest. I was one such - my mother always said I was "brutally honest".

Though I do agree with you that in the case of "coach-skater" conflicts, the coach's side should be heard.

It is not a black and white situation. I just don't like when coaches are automatically blamed.

I agree.

To me, ‘working with’ suggest that the coach and athlete have both some responsibilities and they both have to put in the effort to achieve the desired outcome. The coach can’t make the athlete a gold medallist without the athlete actively contributing with his/her own effort. To me, ‘working with’ doesn’t put all the responsibility on the coach.

Parts of it certainly are indeed actual ;) ... http://s7.uploads.ru/lsWvV.gif

Alina Zagitova is in Japan and a guest at Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's residence.
When asked why she could not bring Masaru, Alina said that Masaru is afraid, traveling as luggage is too dangerous, that she will bring her only if the dog can fly "passenger" with her. PM said "maybe that can be looked into", talks about Alina/Masaru being symbols of good Japanese-Russian relationship. There are several Japanese TV clips. this is one.

Alina on Japanese TV show, asked to demonstrate the "look".

Tessa Virtue... Sasha Trusova... great minds think alike, and sometimes look alike.
I am starting to appreciate Adidas... given the models look better, lately..

Ksenya Tzybinova (Tsibinova) (bd 2004) left Panova's group (Snow Leopards), now skating for CSKA (Buianova's group), coached by Davydov.
Last season's videos

Alina’s new SP looks good from what I can see with those crazy camera angles. Looking forward to some high quality footage from test skates though.

Agree. Couldn’t see much of the actual programme. This seemed more for exposure- if that right word. i See she is working on artistry and it looks good. Can’t wait to see this programme.

Gleikh/ET produced a short video with clips of skaters' programmes (already posted in season's programmes topic, but in case someone did not check it).
I like Tursynbaeva's steps the best so far..... sharp and crisp.. Love the music choices for Jr and Nov. boys.. love Fellini, Chaplin, Aladdin, etc.. (except for Elivs/looking for trouble.... uhhhhh... imo).

Since these two situations created an uproar on Russian social media, and on Golden Skate, might as well post the issues here, because they may have direct or indirect affect on some aspects in Tarakanova’s and Gubanova’s skating matters.

Anastasia Tarakanova.
Short while back she posted a video, asking for a donation of $50,000 USD (3,000,000.00 rubles) to pay for her additional training, outside of regular scope of training in Panova’s group. She did not give much explanation what it would be for, except “for additional training”.

That video was viewed by many, but received no reaction, until in her recent interview/comment, where she said (in a whiny tone, as many perceived it) that she is “very disappointed that nobody offered her 3 million rubles, because she really needs it to improve her skating”.

She further explained why she is disappointed, because her parents already spent 20,000,000.00 rubles on her training (320,000.00+ USD), and now can’t afford to give her another $50,000.00, which she would need, partially as an expense to come to USA and train with Rafael (the other two girls from the club did go with Panova to California, for training, and Tarakanova felt left out).

Given that an average Russian salary is between $600-800 USD per month $7,000 - $9,000 USD per year; and an average retirement pension is $ 210.00 USD per month, Tarakanova’s original request for money and then a “whiny disappointment of not receiving” 50,000 USD for a “hobby” and to go train abroad, was not take lightly by most skating fans (regardless of their fandom and lean with other skaters, age, sex, location, involvement with skating..).

People reminded her what the current salaries in Russia are; that there are terminally ill children who can’t get subsidies for critical treatments and meds, etc.. Some were shocked that she is asking given she is not poor, if her parents already spend 320,000 USD (a sum that not many earn in Russia in less than 10 years).

Some started questioning the validity of having to go to California, for extra training, remembering that she already coach-hopped 4 times in just a few years, suggesting that maybe she does not need more training, but a better attitude towards training…. Some called her a spoiled brat, who lives outside of Russian economic reality, etc.

Well, unfortunately Tarakanova reads most social media, fan forums, and sports-media comment sections……. And jumped right into it, starting to argue with people, defending her position. She was doing it on several sites at once… She was not rude, given the range of the discussion, at first tried to defend her reasons for asking. But got frustrated towards the end, and frustrated some people even further. People were basically shaming her (nobody insulted her, or used swear word).

She ended up posting on her IG/VK something like “I wish that all you said to me happens to you in double”, and was done for the night (it was 2 am in Moscow).

Besides frustrating a lot of her fans, she said few things about her training with Panova, which could be misunderstood as “Panova is a good coach, but I need more, which “Snow Leopards Club” can’t offer” and appeared a bit envious about Panova taking other two girls to Rafael and not her (or at least perceived as envious). Plus she indicated that the sponsor which Plushenko arranged for her at his club, gave her very little (just paid for two months rent for her apartment). Plus it sounded like that she is not getting enough funding (from the Federation/Club) and was never paid a stipend for as long as she skated.

Tarakanova stopped talking for the night, but russian forums/chats/etc. are still “raging about it”, less than during the day, but still it is an issue.

So basically fans are upset, Panova may not like it, Pluschenko may say something, and the Feds may take a note of this.

(I am not giving my opinion for now, just listing what happened).
Some of this has been posted on GS, in the last 5-6 pages of the “Russian Ladies” topic, if anyone wants to read english-speakers' opinions.

Now Gubanova… on the next page in a few minutes.

Anastaia Gubanova.
Few days after parting with Buianova she gave an interview to a video blogger with a very bad/questionable reputation, who is currently attacking Yagudin’s family on social media. (that’s another story). That blogger is provocateur, and opinion of those who heard this interview that she was leading Gubanova intentionally into hot water.

As conclusion, many skating fans (again, of various fandom, leans, age, location, etc), pretty much found Gubanova arrogant, obnoxious, overestimating of herself, and blaming everyone and everything for her lack of success. Gubanova managed to offend pretty much fans of all top ladies’, and some coaches, as well she made some ridiculous (in fans’ opinion) remarks about skating in general.

She said as if it was a fact that she is at least as good as Medvedeva and Tuktamysheva (with a hint that she should have beat them). Hinted that she is better than Konstantinova (but not directly).

Took digs at younger girls who she skated against in Juniors. She is currently 16, and those girls are 15, just a year younger. But she called them “those children who can jump” and that’s why they win. She did not name names, but it was clear – Davydov’s Tarusina, Panova’s girls, Eteri’s girls.

She suggested that she is a match for Zagitova, and the only reason Zagitova went to the Olympics (supposedly instead of her) is because Zagitova is lucky with her birth date, and she Gubanova is unlucky with her birth date.

She thinks she is as good as all these girls (Senior and Junior), it’s just she’s not lucky (and gave various reasons, why she is not lucky).

She suggested that people, first year into Seniors, should not be allowed to skate in the Olympics. That there must be several years “holding period” before any one can be allowed to skate in the Olympics; that “skaters must first skate for a long time” (without naming how many years).

When asked “which skaters you admire”, she named Kostner, Chen, Hanyu.

When asked “which Russian skaters you admire”, she said “none”.

She does not think her weight is a big deal, even if she gains a bit… that’s how her body is, she is not “like some skinny twigs with long legs”.

She was sort of dismissive about “a need to train harder”, she thinks she is fine and doing what she can, and she is good enough to medal (but of course, one can always improve…).

And there is more “questionable attitude” but I don’t remember all the comments, it was a long interview. Overall it was “I am a victim of all the circumstances outside of my control”.

Naturally Russian chats/forums/social media went wild… with critique. And it got to her new coach and club (given the few posts from those who skate at that rink, and post under "nicks" on the chats).

To sum up, the Russian FS social media been talking about it all day, GoldenSkate also has 3-4 pages about it in “Russian Ladies”, and some translations, and to my surprise, English speakers agreeing with the Russian fans, that Gubanova was out of line, sounded bitter, and were taking lots of digs at other skaters.

I’ll post that video if someone English-translates with subtitles (otherwise it is long and hard to put line by line).

Small correction. She did not give this interview a few days after parting with Buyanova. She gave this interview in April. It was first reported on April 13th
Then posted again on July 1st
Interview was only released in full yesterday for some odd reason. Not sure how anyone sits on an interview for over 3 months.

If you're in the provocative media business and you have a medium-sized scoop, you hold it til the news cycle is in your favor. What with G's recent dustup with leaving her coach, I'm sure the blogger thought Now Is the Time.

Drudge, TPM and other political blogs of all persuasions often hold some kinds of news until the moment is ripe.

If you're in the provocative media business and you have a medium-sized scoop, you hold it til the news cycle is in your favor.

That's is usually correct, but in case of E.Rodina, it was another (ugly indecent) situation. I don't want to get into that whole story, how she came to doing interview with Gubanova and why she held it, but in short, she was trying to get a gig at one of the Russian media outlets, and then put out her material that she collected. She tried MatchTV, then Sports-Express, they got rid of her very quickly, once they learned of her reputation and "almost criminal behavior".

She finally got a "sports ambassador" blogger status on "sports.ru", but the readers rebelled against her (because of her earlier documented under her name physical threats to skater/coach), and she was terminated. So she had no media outlet to work with, decided not to wait any longer, and published the interview on her video blog.

Yagudin was one of the "readers" who asked Sports.ru management to exclude E.Rodina from the site (because he knew about her behavior, which border-lined "criminal"). Yagudin wrote a letter to sports.ru saying "How can you let this low life trash be part of your publication".

Now E.Rodina has organized a campaign against Yagudin, Tanya and kids. She is openly (on her IG) calling for internet flash-mob to follow Yagudin's sponsors and magazines where he is featured. She directly states to her followers: I propose that we all do a flash-mob against Yagudin"...

E.Rodina is a sister of Evgeniya Medvedeva's God Mother and best friend of Evgeniya's Mother, Zhanna, since childhood (Olga Rodina). it's a proven fact, nobody is denying it. there are links, and no one is disputing it.
https://cdn.tribuna.com/fetch/?url=https://i.imgur.com/3SowO5h.jpg

Through Medvedeva's family, Rodina got access to top figures in FS, and is manipulating them, especially ones who were upset with Alina's win.
https://cdn.tribuna.com/fetch/?url=https://i.ibb.co/5LJMRtD/2019-02-26-01-31-51.jpg

She is also the one who is instigating "violence" against Zagitova and Eteri (slice her face, splash acid, etc. i've posted links before, can repeat if asked) and organized a group of audience into "stomping and clapping off beat" during last Alina's skate in Moscow (to set her off rhythm).

She admitted to that
, and said she is sorry (asking people to let go). She is also running all sorts of fake sites, pretending to be a pro-Zag Med-hater, to rally up Med-fans against Zagitova.

Rodina and some of her sites are being investigated for "hate inducement" and various activities.

She is my kinda gal!!!

She is my kinda gal!!!
a) if a US skaters said that about other US skaters, it would not baud well, and you know it. Just because you have bias against Eteri's girls and Russian girls on-top, and enjoy all negatives against them (by supposed "underdogs"), does not mean the person who throws them out is correct, right, or fair.

b).... and...... Gubanova lives in Russia, and skates in Russia... and she needs to be "russian kinda gal" for Federation, Coaches and Fans...... But, alas, so far she is getting not "my kinda gal" publicity..... :D and that's just one of them..

A video interview with Gubanova. I absolutely hate the interviewer - she has a vocabulary of a 12 y.o. and she tries to be the coolest and the meanest girl and soooo high society. Brrrr.

The usual food crap: she does not eat/drink in the evening, if she drinks even half a glass of water in the evening she wakes up all swollen and looks like she ate the whole day long. She is aware it's not healthy and `since we are the athletes we don't mind'. Apparently even 100grm have influence on the jumps and the feeling. She does not get dehydrated though. If she drinks more than needed - a glass in the morning and a glass in the noon is enough for her and when she tried drinking more she only got swollen.
She thinks she skates no worse than Medvedeva/Tuktamysheva/Konstantinova (talking about the Russian cup where all 3 showed up all of the sudden, while Gubanova lost all them a bit)
She does not know why she is so far behind the other girls. She skates well, she jumps and spins and all. She beat Zagitova in the past. She couldn't compete in the seniors the season Zagitova won everything because she was born after 1st July.
Praises Zagitova for grabbing her chance and doing all she can and winning all.
She is against the girls going to the Olympics in their first season in the seniors. She is for (not her idea, the idiot interviewer) holding the skaters back for a couple of senior season.
She does not mind whether the coach is male or female. She was with Urmanov, he moved to Sochi, her parents couldn't, so she stayed with Turenko who was a second mother for her. Turenko was the one who taught her all.
Once she became a teenager the relationship changed, they lacked the connection and Gubanova decided she wanted changes and she wanted to move to Moscow. They spoke to Buyanova and she agreed to take them.
Gubanova is originally from Tolyatti. She had a hard childhood, she came to FS because she was very allergic and would get sick all the time. The doctor said she should do sports. Once she started skating she was quite good and was offered to move either to St. Petersburg or Moscow. They picked St. Petersburg, her first coach there was Svetlana Nikolaeva who gave her the basics of figure skating. Gubanova could spend a whole day with Svetlanova Nikolaeva on the ice, the relationship was like `do a jump and I'll buy you a dress'.
The usual 16y.o `I lived through so much...' - the internet haters, apparently, are a thing.
When she was a kid she did get needles in the boots, someone borrowed her gloves and put something inside and put something she got a reaction from. Now such things doesn't happen. The gloves story was the worst, but it was all when she was a kid. It does happen sometimes that someone would tear the shoelaces. She came to the nationals and before the LP her laces tore, she thinks someone did it on purpose. Someone gave her white shoelaces, the coach coloured them with some tea (her boots were beige) and the laces became like a stone. She failed all her elements in the programme.
She is not addicted to the phone during the practices.
She admires Kostner, Hanyu and she does not like any of the Russian skaters much

Brrr.... I HATE the interviewer! Who lets this trash talk to the teenagers???

Beg pardon??

Quit overreaching. you dont know my opinions on squatttttttttt. 🤡

And Im not even sure who this Russian girl in the interview is (Im still trying to get to know all the new Russians coming on the senior scene), but from her answers I quite enjoyed them. I love a rebel type attitude. Whoever she is.

FIND ANY post where I mention having bias about Eteris students. Because they aint mine toots. I aint even totally sure whom all her students are outside Zag and Tursy.

Dont confuse posters. I have hardly posted in this thread at all until extremely recently - as in this week.

And lastly..... TAKE SOME time to enjoy The View.

"Alina Zagitova - The New Media-icon of Russia" (simple article, google-translates)

Vladimir Pozner, of Russian Channel #1 programme "Pozner on Line", interviewed 3 stop Russian coaches this season.
Tarasova, Viner, Tutberdize. This is what he said:

"My interview with Tutberidze was one of my best programmes this past year. She absolutely conquered me, with her directness and for not trying to show-off. She was simply wonderful."

Thank you for the translation. I don’t see anything offensive in here - she sounds like a normal girl who’s frustrated that she has talent but doesn’t get much support from the Fed. IMO, she is actually close to the level of many top Russian ladies skaters.

It's interesting to read different perspectives. A tiny little thing like Natalie Zabijako recommends drinking two litres of water a day to maintain shape (although she says she struggles with this - which I understand because I know I should also drink more water than I do). Natalie's opinion is more in line with normal ideas about water consumption.

That's scary. Water should not make a person swell up, particularly a young physically active person, unless that person has way too much salt in her/his system.

Well, not every day. In general, I don’t have to starve, sometimes in the evening I run 10 kilometers on my own initiative. It’s better not to eat at night, maximum in two hours before bedtime, and it must be something light: a salad, chicken breast or smoothie. Ideally, also to drink two liters of water a day, but for some reason I can’t.

Not sure that two liters of water is the norm for athletes - or people in general - but that sounds preferable to dehydration. Zabijako indicates that it is not part of her training regime, but an activity she may choose or not choose to do.

And running 10 k at the end of the day does seem extreme.
