Who would have predicted how would Tsurskaya’s career turn out when we saw her in her first junior season... Who would have predicted Sakhanovich’s career when she had two successful junior years.

For real? The teams have never traveled together to begin with. Those whose events start earlier always get there earlier than those who start later. And in countries like the US, it would make no sense for those based in say LA to travel with those based in Detroit.

There is no team event here, so why would "team spirit" matter at all? :confused: It's not the Olympics and it's not WTT. Many skaters prefer to train at their home rink as long as possible, and they aren't all training in the same city (or country in Zhenya's case)...so your fantasy of everyone traveling together really makes no sense.
 
Not sure if anyone remembers skater Anastasia Mukhortova, who did pretty well as a single skater in novice/junior a few years ago before suffering injury. Her jumps were always fairly small. She switched to pairs and won a local competition in Moscow with 152.34. Her partner is Dimitri Evgeniev. It's only their first full competition together. They only did 2Tw and had some lift issues, but also attempted 3F(e, negative GOE), 3S+2T+2T (+GOE), 3STh (+GOE in both programs) and 3LzTh (-GOE). She'll be 16 in May and her partner is only 17 so they have a few years of JGP eligibility though it's a tough field in Russia right now. Both are new to pairs.

(I see Novice Boys and Girls, who are next year's Juniors, competing EVERY week, in a different competition, for the last 2 months almost in each one of the events, same kids...... i think that's too much).
 
Thanks, that's the competition I was talking about. I didn't find the video; thanks for posting. You can see improvement in their unison since the Russian Cup Video. They train with Mozer's team.

I noticed that they were pretty good for a new team on their first outing.

Anastasyia Mukhortova caught my attention in 2016, when she skated in a military uniform, to a famous song by (now dead) first Soviet times rock star, Victor Tzoy, a song called "Kukushka" (in this programme, sang by Polina Gagarina famous from Eurovision) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_C3iCAzy4E

The junior pairs are quite full, but not impossible to break through. There have been some splits (Atakhanova retired due to health reasons, Kvartalova/Sviatchenko and Labazina/Rakhmanin split up, Mishina/Galliamov will move to seniors, Poluyanova/Sopot and Kudriavsteva/Spiridonov are aging out from juniors) so from established junior pairs there is now only Panfilova/Rylov, Akhantieva/Kolesov, Kostiukovich/Yalin and Pepeleva/Pleshkov. There have been a few new ones that have done pretty decently at the junior nationals and the Russian cup final and show potential, but they are not fully established yet so there could be a few spots open for junior grand prix for the next year. I really liked Mukhortova/Evgeniev, but they will need to upgrade their difficulty. Triple twist is essential for Russian junior pairs. But they are very nicely synchronised, one wouldn’t recognise that it is a relatively new pair. Well done to them. They are really watchable.
 
Is anyone else watching Russian novice nationals? Tutberidze got herself a gold medal in younger novice girls (Zhilina) and gold and silver medals in younger novice boys (Fedotov and Kolesnikov). Her girls are also in good position to fight for gold in older novice girls (at the moment they are at 1st, 2nd, 4th and 7th place after elements and SP; FS is tomorrow). Her older novice boys are not quite there yet, ‘only’ 4th and 7th after elements and SP; FS tomorrow).

Yes, I don't think breaking through is impossible, but they definitely need a triple twist if they want to do that. Russia can also use extra spots, since they are hosting a JPG next season. I imagine Kostiukovich/Ialin (if they don't move up), Akhanteva/Kolesov, Panfilova/Rylov and Pepeleva/Pleshkov will all likely get two events, which is 8 spots. I would think Visloboka/Bryukhanov will also get an assignment, maybe Mukhametzyanova/Mironov. But a lot can change over the summer.

Please note, when you see that each venue has 3 segments (not just SP and FS), it means there is "Elements" included as a 3rd segment. "Elements" is when each girl has to do 1 3X jump, 1 combo jumps, footwork/sequence and spins. The jumps get 2 tries (like gymnastics). Each element is scored individually, and then added up for final score.

Very true! And had Konstantinova not struggled at Euros so much, they might have sent her to Worlds. Not to mention Tuktamysheva had a rocky several years and is now reigning GPF bronze medalist.

Yes. I remember Maxim Trankov said that teams who win everything in juniors rarely do well in seniors, because it takes so long for pairs to develop between junior level and senior level. (With the exception of Sui/Han and Gordeeva/Grinkov, all the dominant pairs I can think of either teamed up in seniors or struggled in juniors and peaked later).

In the Total Results you will see 3 scores and 3 columns. It's because the 1st segment of competition is "Elements" (like "figure-8" but only for jumps/footworks/spins as individual elements.)

:) Maybe it is funny, but I'm not sure Yagudin meant himself, even though he said "we collected beer cans". It's OK if Yagudin did it too, but it seems it is Plushenko who usually tells about looking for empty bottles on streets together with his mom (to sell them to recycling centres). Yagudin usually tells he had no vacant hours: if Yagudin wasn't at school or at training, his mom made him jump at an outdoor rink, at nights she made him do his homework (not in evenings - later - maybe "mornings" is the right word in English).

Yagudin mentioned Plushenko indeed in this post:

Because I actually don't have anything better to do, I watched the last group. It was quite an enjoyable competition. Valieva is, of course, lovely to watch, and has the it factor in spades, that others don't. But her lutz technique is actually quite frightening and I don't think it will hold up. I think all her training mates have better jumps. Akatieva is lacking in PCS (but she's much younger than Valieva) but her jumps looked better, and she seems to have good speed for a young kid. Kromykh needs a ballet class but her jumps are actually quite good and she's got the beginnings of presentation. For some reason, she reminds me of Tennell a bit. Samodelkina's jump are teeny, like much of Davydov's kids but seems like a fighter. Usacheva was ok - nothing particularly stands out, but everything seems solid. Her skating skills and presentation still need work which is expected at this point.

Veronika Zhilina is actually my favorite, in the younger age group. Her LP was a mess, but she has a lot of natural snap and power to her jumps.

Kamila Valieva, Maya Kromykh and Daria Usacheva will all be JGP eligible in the fall. The others are all too young. Akatieva won't be eligible until 2021, I think.
 
I was thinking the same thing, but then noticed that Rozanov is becoming more individually active in her group, working with Novice and Juniors, while few new coaches are taking over his earlier position of "watching the chickens en masse". She can always hire more specialists, and do the fine tuning with each.

Daria Panenkova is doing more coaching than skating lately, and she said she would go back to Eteri in a recent interview, so maybe she will go back as a coach...

But it is not only about having enough coaches. They also need to have enough ice time. And the ice mustn’t be overcrowded because otherwise it will affect everyone. Saying that, didn’t Medvedeva ask Putin for another ice pad? Has it been built already?

somewhere it was mentioned that "new rink will or is being built", where/when/how... i have no idea. also, it pops into mind that the talks were "Tuberidze's group stays at Khristalny, and other coaches plus "kids groups" will go to the new one". this is nothing certain, just something stuck in my mind from "bits and pieces" of info.
